Plot[]

Hudson is a 23-year-old security guard at the upcoming Fazbear’s Fright Horror Attraction. His life up to this point has been filled with tragedy. Hudson’s father committed suicide and his mother remarried a man named Lewis, who would physically abuse him at nearly every chance he got, which caused him to fail his classes. His mother was constantly taking pills to sleep, which caused him to be malnourished. Hudson became a target for bullies, who would hold his head down a flushing toilet. The teachers constantly yelled at him for falling behind, with the worst being Mr. Atkin, who called him stupid. At the end of his senior year, Hudson’s family’s house burned down, killing Lewis and his mother.

This only made things worse, however, as Hudson became the prime suspect. He was unable to keep a steady job, but eventually his two childhood friends, Duane and Barry, convinced him to apply to Fazbear’s Fright temporarily before all three joined the Navy. Hudson’s physical abuse, along with nerve damage in his legs, causes him to fail the physical test, so Hudson instead settles at working for the attraction full time. He meets a girl named Faith, who admits to liking him, however after their first date she breaks up with him after being told about the fire. This severely affects Hudson’s mental health, as it causes all of his trauma to come back.

While Duane and Barry try to make Hudson feel included, he still feels incredibly miserable. One day, Hudson learns Barry is dating Faith, and while Hudson is fine with that he’s still upset. He also learns a big find is arriving the next day, and the phone system will be put in the day after. After work, Hudson decides to visit his seer and wise Granny Foster. She tells him to leave his job, but he refuses since it’s the only good job he can get. Granny Foster doesn't explain why Hudson should quit and tells him, “Your path is your own.”

Hudson arrives the next day just in time to see Barry and Duane carrying a coffin-size crate into the building. Duane explains that whatever’s inside was found in a hidden room in one of the pizzerias, and they plan to make a hidden room just for the animatronic. While Barry goes to get a crowbar, Duane snaps at Hudson for being afraid of the animatronic parts. Barry tries to get Duane to stop, but Hudson storms off and misses the crate being opened. Later, Duane explains that it was an old animatronic, and Hudson watches his friends hook it to a wall, but he squints his eyes so all he sees is its white eyes and green eyelids.

That night, Hudson decides to face his fears and approach the new animatronic. He runs straight into the lobby but stops dead in his tracks upon looking at the animatronic; it’s a greenish yellow rabbit with torn pieces exposing its endo and reddish material (Springtrap). Hudson touches the reddish material and learns it’s tissue, and then hears the voice of Mr. Atkin. He angrily attacks the animatronic, seemingly knocking its tooth out. Hudson then tries to move it, but gives up and continues his nightly sweep of the building. In the arcade, he discovers the statues in the dining room impossibly singing and something knocks the nightstick out of his hand as he hallucinates being slammed into a desk by Lewis in his childhood bedroom. Hudson realizes he had slammed his head into an arcade machine and runs back to his office to bandage his head. Once there, he finds that Springtrap is missing.

Hudson grabs a hammer and runs to the bathroom to wash the blood off, however he hallucinates bullies dragging him to a toilet and submerging his head. He discovers the toilet is dry and hears laughter. Hudson sees Springtrap poking his head out of a vent and chases after, finding severed heads of several animatronics including a damaged Chica head attached to a shoulder, an arm, and a hand. He gives up and crawls towards an exit, but Chica grabs his foot. Hudson tries kicking her off, but he hears Faith’s voice repeating “I like you.” Chica grabs his hand, but he exits the vent, slams her against the floor, and kicks her into a pile of animatronic and costume parts which tear her to bits. Hudson grabs a butcher knife and rolling pin from the kitchen and retreats to his office. He realizes he can just leave, but his keys are missing. A large pile of animatronic and costume mouths break through a vent in the ceiling, asking Hudson algebra problems and calling him stupid in Mr. Atkin’s voice. They crawl onto his body, one attempting to enter his mouth, but he wets his pants and is left a crying mess rocking and humming on the floor.

Hudson eventually stops and goes to get cleaned up. Something grabs his wrist and flings him, breaking his wrist. Hudson hallucinates when Lewis had done the same as punishment for peeing his pants. He sees his knife a few feet away, but also sees the animatronic parts on the wall moving. The closest to Hudson are three arms, one holding his nightstick, another holding his hammer, and an unmoving Foxy arm in the middle. He tries sitting, but Foxy’s hook finally moves and cuts his back. Hudson looks at his watch and learns his shift ends in four hours. Springtrap slowly moves down the hall and speaks with Lewis’s voice, taunting Hudson just like the real Lewis did long ago. Hudson threatens to use his knife, but Springtrap overpowers him and stabs him in his bicep. Hudson runs away and gets bit in his right forearm by a mouth on the wall, but when he looks back the walls are still and Springtrap is gone, with only a bloody butcher knife laying on the ground. His right hand is spattered with blood and he questions if he had slashed himself.

Hudson heads toward the gift shop to get towels to cover the wounds. When passing Pirate’s Cove, the curtains tear and Springtrap pokes his head out, waving Foxy’s arm. Hudson runs but Springtrap doesn’t chase after. When he reaches the lobby, he discovers Springtrap hooked up to the wall exactly how Barry and Duane had left him. Hudson brushes it off and reaches the gift shop, wrapping a large amount of towels around his arm. He looks for something to break the glass door, but sees movement and backs out. Hudson smells Lewis’ black cherry tobacco and hallucinates when Lewis punished him for puking by trapping him in his room using toys while he threw him against the wall of his room.Hudson is thrown across the lobby, breaking his back, and he spots a vent cover swinging. He returns to the gift shop only to find the plushies and action figures guarding the exit.

Hudson’s pain is too much to bear and he decides to hide. He makes his way to the kitchen and hides in an oven, remembering Granny Foster had always told him, “Heat purges. Fire heals.” Hudson thinks back to when he wrestled a knife from Lewis and threatened to tell everyone everything if he touched him again. Lewis boasted that they wouldn’t believe him and Hudson crawled into the fireplace to hide. He realized he took Lewis’s lighter and lit the curtains, which spread to the entire house. Hudson barely made it out, but the burns on his legs gave him nerve damage. He hears cracks within the oven and discovers it’s been turned on. Hudson tries kicking at the oven door but it doesn’t open, and he hears Granny Foster calling his name. He asks her to open the oven, but realizes her voice is coming from within the oven. Hudson begs for help but she only says, “Your path is your path.”

Barry and Duane arrive the next day shocked to find the door still locked. When they unlock it, they smell something burnt and attempt to find Hudson. They come across Springtrap in the exact same condition he was in when they left, and Duane mentions having forgotten to pick up the loose tooth the previous night. They check the office and discover it empty, and Barry notes the smell is coming from the kitchen. As they approach the kitchen, Barry tells Duane that he feels bad for Hudson and he deserves to have something go right.

Speculation[]

WitheredChica-Icon "I was the first! I have seen everything!"

This section archives a lot of theories and speculation, which usually occurs from pre-release media, or just things that are still unknown, so please keep that in mind while reading. The page will continue to be updated with the most accurate information as more solid evidence is supplied.

  • It is possible that this version of Springtrap is possessed by the same William Afton from the epilogues.
    • If this is true, then it is possible that Afton was removed from the suit.
    • This story would also be a prequel to The Man in Room 1280 and the epilogues.
  • However, the corpse inside the suit is described very differently than the Room 1280 Patient, suggesting that they are different entities.
  • Though, it is very unlikely that they're different entities since William Afton has been Springtrap in all the other continuities, and that Miketrap (the theory that Michael Afton is Springtrap) has already been proven false by Scott Cawthon.
    • There could be a canon explanation for why Afton's corpse looks so much different inside the suit compared to when he was at Hercules Hospital.
    • Another possible solution is that William Afton is both entities, and the stories are in separate universes.
    • It's also possible that the story simply takes place before whatever the fire the Man was in took place.
  • However, whether or not this takes place in a separate universe still needs to be confirmed.
  • Hudson is likely a counterpart to the security guard in Five Nights at Freddy's 3.
    • This could mean that the FNaF 3 protagonist's name is also Hudson.
  • Dawko stated in his discussion video about What We Found that the whole story could have been revolving around Hudson just seeing hallucinations about his past trauma in his life and not actually dealing with Springtrap, physically.[1]
    • This would make sense since Hudson had PTSD of what he had to go through in his life in the past.
    • Dawko also stated that due to Springtrap's agony and power presumably from remnant, he was powerful enough to mess with Hudson's mind and make him suffer from his past life all over again while he was still hooked up to the wall where Barry and Duane had left him.
      • This could mean that in Five Nights at Freddy's 3, the phantom animatronics are possibly created by Springtrap's agony and remnant creating an amount of power to create hallucinations to mess with the security guard's head in order to get distracted so Springtrap would have the advantage to easily murder the guard.

Trivia[]

  • The ending is foreshadowed by an early description of Fazbear's Fright, when Hudson notices "working industrial-size ovens so big Hudson would fit inside them" in the kitchen.[2]
  • This is the second story to feature Springtrap as the main antagonist, the first being In the Flesh.
    • This is technically the first story to feature the real Springtrap, since In the Flesh featured a fake VR version of him.
  • This story has the same effects from Five Nights at Freddy's 3, in which makes the guard and Hudson have hallucinations in the attraction.
    • The hallucinations begin right after Hudson touches the exposed flesh within Springtrap's suit, seemingly confirming that Springtrap caused the hallucinations in the game.
    • It is likely that either Andrew or the evil force alongside him had a hand in terrorizing Hudson.
  • This is the first story in the Fazbear Frights series to be loosely based on the third game.
  • This is the second story to be based on gameplay, with the first being Room for One More.
    • This also has a similar plot structure to Room for One More, where the protagonists Stanley and Hudson are both security guards who have experienced great loss, have miserable lives and have recently been dumped by their girlfriends. Their days are normal until they encounter an animatronic, giving them hallucinations and visions while in the workplace until it leads to both of their demises.
  • Hudson's backstory is an example of the African Proverb "The child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth". Hudson had a terrible upbringing, constantly being abused by Lewis, the bullies and verbally abused by the teachers for years and when finally Hudson had enough of this, he threatened Lewis with a knife and accidentally killed him in the fire.
  • Springtrap appears to have the ability to mimic voices, particularly the voice of Lewis.
  • What We Found was originally the second story of the book, but switched places with Sergio's Lucky Day for unknown reasons.
  • There was an illustration made for this story, but the illustrations were ultimately scrapped for the whole series, although it was reused for its own page in The Ultimate Guide.
    • The illustration shows a scared Hudson running from Springtrap through a hallway in Fazbear's Fright.
  • Lewis' quote "Nothing divided in half is nothing" makes a cameo in Five Nights at Freddy's: Into the Pit on one of the bookshelves at Westbrook Middle School.
