The first version of Tales from the Pizzaplex #4 cover art featuring some of the waterpark animatronics.
The waterpark animatronics are an assorted group of underwater animatronics of Freddy's Fantasy Water Park and appeared in the first story of Tales from the Pizzaplex 4: Submechanophobia. All but one of these animatronics are a part of the water park's main attraction, Freddy's Sea Life Mechaquarium, with the one not featured there being in the workshop for repairs.
Functionality[]
The water park animatronics are described as old and run down, with rusted patches, chipped paint and a few broken pieces you wouldn't notice at a distance. They are completely waterproof, and are rarely removed from the Mechaquarium. They normally move and swim quite slowly in the water, and only move quickly in a nightmare dream sequence from the story, Submechanophobia. They seem to get their power wirelessly, or perhaps, through the water, as once the power to the Mechaquarium is turned off, all animatronics deactivate. This is, however, left unexplained as it isn't relevant to the plot of the story.
Each underwater animatronic has an openable panel on their back for maintenance, that contains several wires and a button that resets the animatronics motors. These are also waterproof, and allow very simple maintenance to be done within the Mechaquarium, without removing the animatronic or draining the water. As these animatronics are rather old, and have been mostly unkept for a few years up until the start of Submechanophobia, their wires come loose and they need a motor reset fairly frequently. Once the motor reset button is pushed, the animatronic jerks and flails for a few moments before going still again. To perform this maintenance, the power to the Mechaquarium is shut off, and the animatronics deactivate. When this happens, they settle in place, either floating at the surface, sinking to the bottom, or remaining mostly stationary inbetween. When no wires are loose and a motor reset doesn't fix the problem, the animatronic is removed from the Mechaquarium for more extensive repairs in the workshop at Foxy Island's Water Slides, to the East of the Mechaquarium.
Animatronics[]
Marco the Serpent[]
- Main article: Marco the Serpent
“As he swam farther down, he could feel his gut tighten. He eyed the long-tailed sea serpent, Marco, staring at him from a few feet away. The animatronic was powered down, but the eerie way the sea serpent stared directly at him made Caden feel like he was being stalked. Watched. For a second, he thought he noticed a flicker of yellow light in its eyes.” |
Marco the Serpent is the purple twin of Polo the Serpent and plays a minor role in the story. It's usually mentioned alongside Polo, but Marco is specifically involved as one of the first hints that something isn't quite right with the animatronics. Outside of that instance and its initial description, Marco is not referred to as an individual again in the story.
Polo the Serpent[]
- Main article: Polo the Serpent
“He finally spotted the pale pink serpent, stuck between two sea rocks near the bottom. At first he thought it was just hiding, but as he
moved closer, he saw that Polo was down. There was no movement and its usually lit eyes were dead.” |
Polo the Serpent is the pink twin of Marco the Serpent, and is one of three animatronics to break down in the story. It's usually mentioned alongside Marco, and is only majorly mentioned on its own as Caden is repairing it. Once the repairs are completed, Polo is not mentioned on its own again and is instead always grouped in with Marco, with both of them being present fairly frequently throughout the story.
Hank the Hammer[]
- Main article: Hank the Hammer
“Caden rubbed at his chin, studying the mechaquarium from the outside of the glass. It was definitely Hank the Hammer that was down. In fact, the animatronic was flipped over, floating in the middle of the tank, like a dead fish.” |
Hank the Hammer is one of the three shark animatronics of the Mechaquarium, named after a rusted spot on its tail that's shaped like a hammer. Hank is unfortunately not described as a hammerhead shark, and is one of the three animatronics to break down in the story. Its presence is entirely limited to its introductory description and its break down, and once its repairs are complete, it's only mentioned again when grouped in with the other two sharks.
Mac the Muscle[]
- Main article: Mac the Muscle
“Caden sat down on the edge with his gear on, slipped on his goggles, put in his breathing regulator, and slid into the cold water. He first swam above the other two sharks a few feet below him. Mac the Muscle was dark blue and the biggest of the three. Swimming over its large body sent a shiver down Caden’s back.” |
Mac the Muscle is one of the three shark animatronics of the Mechaquarium, and is very rarely mentioned in the story. The only time Mac is said to be doing something is in Caden's nightmare and in the climax of the story, but is grouped with the other two sharks in both instances. It's only notably referred to directly in its initial description given when Caden swims above it.
Sly the Shark[]
- Main article: Sly the Shark
“Then Caden shifted to look at Sly. Of course, it appeared like the small shark was staring right at him again. Caden looked away and aimed for the rocks.” |
Sly the Shark is one of the three shark animatronics of the Mechaquarium, that was named for its tendency to sneak around the faux sea rocks of the Mechaquarium. It's mentioned individualy (outside of its name reveal and initial description) on occasion throughout the story, with mentions to its current location in the Mechaquarium, it staring at Caden, and as being present in the chase sequence in the climax of the story. Otherwise, it's presence is entirely grouped in with the other two sharks.
Zeus the Sea Dragon[]
- Main article: Zeus the Sea Dragon
“Caden wanted to look anywhere else, but he found himself staring into the dragon’s open mouth. It wasn’t looking so good. Some of the teeth were broken off. The green paint on the scales had rubbed off on areas along its head. Black oil had stained the side of its mouth over the years, and in the dimness of the tank it reminded Caden of dried blood.” |
Zeus the Sea Dragon is a large sea dragon animatronic, and plays a major role in the story. Zeus is better described than the other animatronics and is the one who sets Caden on the path to unravelling the story's mystery. It actively saves Caden's life and is the biggest and scariest of the Mechaquarium animatronics. Interestingly, it is also referred to as a 'he', making it the second animatronic to recieve a gendered pronoun (the other being Delilah the mermaid) in the story, even if this only happened once, and thus, was likely a minor error of sorts. It is also featured in the backgrounds of both of the front covers for the Submechanophobia book.
Delilah the Mermaid[]
- Main article: Delilah the Mermaid
“Caden gazed down at the mermaid as she swam at the bottom, moving her arms and tail around. Her faded red hair waved through the water.” |
Delilah the Mermaid is a mermaid animatronic and is one of the three animatronics to break down during the story. She is the only animatronic of the park to be referred to with only gendered pronouns, (with Zeus being referred to only once as a 'he') and is most notable for her hair getting in people's faces. Outside of her repairs, she remains fairly present in the background of scenes involving the Mechaquarium, and she acts as the introduction to various story elements, such as how the attraction works, Caden's submechanophobia, how the animatronics function, and how they're usually repaired. She is also featured front and centre of the final cover of the Submechanophobia book, and was in the background of the previous versions that had Frank the Diver in the foreground instead.
Frank the Diver[]
- Main article: Frank the Diver
“He avoided the diver. Its arms were floating out in front of it.” |
Frank the Diver is a vintage scuba diver animatronic. It's unclear whether Frank is an animatronic inside of a fully functional vintage diver suit, or if there is a replica of the animatronic available as a suit to be worn. It's more than likely to be the former as that's primarily what's implied, but it's not explicitly stated either way. Because of this, Frank is possibly one of the least present animatronics of the group, as outside of the climax, it's unclear if Frank was actually there, or it was someone posing as Frank to blend in. Like Zeus, Frank is one of the most relevant animatronics of the story, and is also in the spotlight of the original front covers of the Submechanophobia book.
Squid[]
- Main article: Minor Animatronics in the Submechanophobia section
“And all the way against the back wall was Caden’s worktable, with a defunct squid animatronic sprawled out and covering the entire table.” |
The animatronic Squid is an unnamed, defunct squid animatronic that was removed from the Mechaquarium due to various mechanical faults. It's remarkably well described compared to some of the active animatronics, but holds very little relevance to the story. It acts as a reason for Caden to be in the workshop located in the Foxy Island's Water Slides area of the park, but is otherwise unimportant to the overall plot.
Fish[]
“Caden kicked down toward the school of fish and pushed through them. Each time he brushed against one, it was like being zapped with dread. He broke through the wall of fish, with his heart pounding, and swam over to Hank.” |
The assortment of animatronic Fish are not described, and are only mentioned briefly as Caden, swims through them.
