Derek[]
Derek is Jessica's boyfriend and the senior varsity football quarterback. He's six foot, two inches tall and muscular with dark, handsome features such as his beautiful hair, intense brown eyes, thick eyebrows, and umber-brown skin which are the kind of good looks that "made Jessica's legs go weak." Derek wears a leather letterman jacket. He also always chews wintergreen gum and wears icy-scented cologne that Jessica had bought for his birthday the month before.
Despite them being in a seemingly good relationship, Jessica doesn't have plans for their relationship in the future and believes Derek will dump her upon going to college. She had him help open her locker when it gets stuck and asks if he got the suit she picked out for him. Derek hasn't yet, as the homecoming dance is only three days away and he's being practicing more for the homecoming game. Later, he and Roman invite Jessica and Brittany out to eat burgers after practice. While walking towards Burgerdom, Derek catches Jessica after she is nearly hit by Mindy riding her bicycle. They find a place to sit while Jessica gets their order.
Chase[]
Chase is the school's star running back. He has long, curly surfer hair and a great butt that's "even better than Derek's." According to Jessica, Chase's facial features are too flat to be called handsome or even cute. Because he is the star running back, he gets the privilege of dating Stephanie.
Stephanie[]
Stephanie is one of the varsity cheerleaders and Jessica's second-best friend, albeit a distant second best. She's dating Chase.
Roman[]
Roman is Brittany's boyfriend and the star wide receiver. Like Derek, Roman is also a senior. Brittany doesn't have plans for their relationship in the future and believes Roman will dump her upon going to college. During lunch, he shoots a finger at Brittany and winks at her, then gives Jessica a salute. He joins Derek, Jessica, and Brittany at Burgerdom.
Evan[]

Evan is a student in Jessica and Brittany's English class. Jessica considers him kind of cute in a hobo-vibe sort of way, as his retro clothes are always hanging off of him but his great hooded eyes and fluid way of moving keeps him from being a dweeb. When Jessica and Brittany are walking through the cafeteria, Evan offers his and his friends seats to them and walks away.
Valerie[]

Valerie is a junior-varsity cheerleader who Jessica thinks has a lot of potential. After Cindy and Mindy take the spots being saved for Jessica and Brittany, Valerie tells Cindy why everyone is shocked.
Frieda[]
Frieda is Brittany's family's cook. For lunch, she prepares and places a cup of vegetable soup in a thermal mug tucked inside a small cotton-canvas-and-rattan tote. Frieda constantly forgets to give Brittany a spoon. much to her annoyance.
Patrice[]

Patrice is a fellow cheerleader. She has shiny black hair. Patrice reveals to Jessica that the principal is allowing the eight graders to attend the dances. She calls it insanity before walking away.
Irwin[]
Irwin is a cashier at Burgerdom. He's skinny with pale brown eyes, bad skin, and worse teeth, and he wears an orange-and-blue uniform. Jessica considers him a loser and easily manipulates him. After cutting through the line, Jessica asks for their usual. Others in line protest, but Irwin listens to Jessica anyway.
