Summary[]

Kai goes into the AR booth in the Pizzaplex for a ten-minute session. There he meets Tiger Rock, a white tiger animatronic with one green eye and one blue eye. He shows Kai more of the Pizzaplex, but he repeatedly grips Kai's arm. After Kai hears something pop he decides to run away, but Tiger Rock finds him and grips his arm again just as the experience ends. Kai keeps living life as normal, but unbeknownst to him he is still trapped in the AR booth. Over the next few days, he sees Tiger Rock take on multiple different forms, including an owl, a cat and a clock. All of these share the same eyes as Tiger Rock himself. He realises he is in the AR booth when he gets caught on the school's escalator, remembering his school doesn't have an escalator. The next day, he stays home from school, and when he sees Tiger Rock again as his sister Malia's plushies pull on his limbs, Kai commands himself to wake up. He then sees a girl with her grandfather and a doll and realises he is free. His friends Todd and Asher reveal that Kai was trapped for five hours. After Kai goes home, he spots a white owl, thinking it is Tiger Rock again, but it has normal eyes. As it flies away, Tiger Rock appears, rips Kai's arms out of their sockets and vanishes into the night.

Plot[]

Kai is an eleven-year-old boy who spent the first seven years of his life living in Hawaii with his native mother and “cowboy” father. When his dad decided to run a start-up real estate development company, they moved to the mainland. Due to his looks and chill attitude, Kai had difficulty making friends. Now in sixth grade, Kai has found himself friends with Todd and Asher, two other kids who didn’t fit in with the rest. They call themselves the “Timeless Trio,” and together they go on adventures around town and visit the Freddy Fazbear Mega Pizzaplex. They haven’t visited in a couple of weeks, and in that time a tree was built that housed The Storyteller, a cutting-edge program that feeds story lines to the animatronics.

After hearing kids at school talk about The Storyteller and some online research done by Asher, the trio excitedly enter the Pizzaplex Saturday morning in order to see The Storyteller’s Tree. Todd pulls Kai by his arm to get there faster, but they are shocked to find the tree covered in clear plastic and blocked off by a rope. An employee explains that there was some kind of glitch, and despite only being up for three weeks it’s going to be taken down. They’re disappointed and Kai tells his friends that he wants to check out the VR booth. On the way, Kai explains how he’s been working on lucid dreaming and has found a way to command himself to wake up. Todd points out that the AR booth is advertising a special one day simulation of the Pizzaplex ten years in the future. The line is short and, since they don’t mind waiting, Kai goes in for a ten-minute session.

Kai finds himself in a sleeker, flashier, and noisier Pizzaplex with even higher tech. He’s in awe over the clothes and a bullet-train-shaped roller coaster when he’s approached by Glamrock Freddy, who appears more detailed and closer to a real bear. Glamrock Freddy gives Kai a tour of the future Pizzaplex, showing off the upgrades to the theater, the roof, the dining room, Roxy’s Raceway, Bonnie Bowl, and the laser tag area. As they walk, Kai notices that the animatronics spoke with no contractions and a little too flat. Glamrock Freddy shows off a new African Safari ride and Tiger Rock Trampoline. There they encounter Tiger Rock and Freddy leaves. Tiger Rock, a white tiger animatronic with one green and one blue eye, speaks to Kai with more flair than the others. Kai is surprised when Tiger Rock speaks Hawaiian, which Tiger Rock explains he enjoys learning and will learn anything he can. He offers to show Kai how things work around the Pizzaplex, and when Kai agrees Tiger Rock grips Kai’s left arm.

Tiger Rock leads him to a conveyor belt where helper bots are made. Tiger Rock grips Kai’s arm stronger as he explains he can be everywhere and shows him a slide for performers and helper bots. He then leads Kai to the slipstream slide for Pizzaplex visitors. As they walk Kai pulls his arm from Tiger Rock’s grasp, assuming Tiger Rock isn't aware of his strength. Kai notices that Tiger Rock is glancing at him, and once back in the main part of the Pizzaplex he grabs Kai’s arm even tighter. At the slide, something pops in Kai’s bicep and he breaks free, going down the slide and hiding in Gator Golf. He tries getting help from an employee and a young couple, but they ignore him since it’s a simulation. Tiger Rock finds him and assumes they’re playing hide-and-seek, a game he learned a long time ago. Kai flees to the bathroom but thinks Tiger Rock followed him, so he leaves only to run into Tiger Rock, who clamps down on his biceps right as the experience ends. Kai looks at his bicep and discovers it’s bruised, but when he tries telling the VR attendant what happened he doesn’t believe him. Frightened and hurt by the experience, he convinces Todd and Asher to leave the Pizzaplex.

That night Kai feels jumpy, so he goes to his room instead of telling a story to his sister, Malia. He tries looking for his favorite hummingbird and instead finds a large, detailed metallic white owl hiding in the bushes. The owl suddenly turns and opens its eyes, revealing one green and one blue eye. Kai bumps his head on the window, causing it to slam down on his arm. He has nightmares about the owl, causing him to command himself awake. The next day, as he and his friends go on a quest for a gift his dad hid, Kai spots a detailed, metal white cat that looks at him with one green and one blue eye. Kai crashes his bike, sending his left arm into a fence. His friends help him up and he returns home.

The next day, as everyone is heading down the escalator to lunch, Kai looks at the school’s front wall and notices a new white clock with a face. When Kai reaches the bottom of the escalator it opens its eyes to reveal one green and one blue eye, causing Kai to stumble and get his left pant leg caught in the escalator. As his history teacher cuts him free, kids mock him for getting stuck on the stairs. Kai realizes that there were never escalators and he was stuck on loose wood from the school’s stairs. After he’s picked up from the nurse’s office, Kai locks himself in his room and refuses to come out. Malia gives him five plush animals to help him feel better. The next day, Kai stays home from school. He believes that since he confused the stairs with an escalator, he must be confusing physical reality with a virtual one. Kai concludes that he is still in the VR booth.

Suddenly, Malia’s plush toys begin moving towards him. Kai stands still as he watches them crawl forward and latch on his limbs. Kai’s closet door creaks open and Tiger Rock’s eyes glow in the darkness, gazing at Kai’s limbs. As the plush animals pull forcefully on his limbs, Kai closes his eyes and commands himself to wake up. Suddenly, the pain stops and he finds himself in a whirlpool of colors and sounds, until he slowly sees Glamrock Freddy and the Pizzaplex of the present day and the future blending together. Suddenly, Tiger Rock overlays on top of it all. Kai continues to command himself to wake up as he approaches the VR booth’s glass wall, creating an opening and pushing through it.

Kai sees a little girl with her grandfather and a doll and realizes he is free. He looks at a crowd of Pizzaplex employees and another crowd of concerned visitors. Among them is Todd and Asher, who explain that the booth locked up and Kai was trapped for five hours. Kai realizes that he hadn't pushed his way through the glass wall, but instead just walked through the normal glass door of the VR booth. They continue to explain that, because of the bulletproof-like quality of the glass, they were discussing how to safely destroy it when the door suddenly opened. Simply wanting to move on from the experience, Kai returns home, ignoring the concerns of Pizzaplex staff and his friends.

That night, Kai feels tired but tries to stay up so his parent’s don’t know something has happened and tries his best to continue their normal Saturday traditions. Kai manages to hang on long enough to get his sister in bed before going to bed himself, but later he is awoken by an owl. He tries ignoring it but eventually opens the window and looks outside, finding a normal feathered white owl that flies away. As Kai begins to return to his bedroom, Tiger Rock appears and rips Kai's arms out of their sockets. Kai falls to the ground and watches Tiger Rock vanish into the night with his arms right before he loses consciousness.

Trivia[]

  • In an argument between Asher and Todd, the former references the famous American writer Mark Twain.
  • Kai says Glamrock Freddy doesn't use contractions in his speech.[1] Similarly, all his dialogue in Security Breach lacks contractions.[2]
  • When Kai escapes the VR Booth, the first thing he sees is a little girl with her grandfather and a strange-looking doll.[3] These are Astrid, her farfar, and Nexie from Nexie.
    • Conversely, in Nexie, Astrid describes how she joins a crowd of people to watch "the boy in the glass dome", referencing Kai in the VR Booth.
  • Many of the things Tiger Rock says, as well as his actions, are strongly related to the Mimic1 program and The Storyteller.
  • It's possible that the glitch that caused the Storyteller tree to shut down is actually a cover-up story for Edwin Murray's and Mr. Burrows' deaths inside the tree.
    • This confirms that this story takes place after the events of The Storyteller because Edwin Murray is confirmed to have suffocated and its most likely Mr Burrows suffered the same fate because The Storyteller ends with him trapped inside The Storyteller Tree which is stated to be airtight.
  • In the VR simulation, an animatronic described to look like a "relative" of Bonnie (possibly, Glitchtrap) briefly as.[4]
