In all the Five Nights at Freddy's games, we never dirctly see William speak. We hear him speak, sure, but it's never written out in dialogue. At least, it's unclear if we do. There are some times where in might be William, in gold text, but it's only a possibility. The question is: are all of these possibilites a coincidence?
These are the main times when gold text is used throughout the series, from what I recall:
- The Psychic Friend Fredbear in FNaF 4.
- Fruity Maze, presumably William in the Spring Bonnie suit. (Interesting, only the first and third lines.)
- The FNaF 3 trailer - "He will come back. He always does. We have a place for him."
- And, of course, Midnight Motorist.
Now, the second one is almost definitely William, and I established in my last thread that the first was Cassidy. I still hold both of those to be true.
But there's a hell of a lot of evidence that the Midnight Motorist is William Afton. The house matches the same description, they both appear to be abusive fathers who lock their kids in their room, and both houses contain a gray-texted gray-shirted couch potato. Not to mention that their purple cars. Thing is, that's all evidence relating to it being the Afton household, and the one major piece of evidence against this idea is the fact that William Afton tends to be represented with purple.
Well, maybe the Midnight Motorist is William, but wearing the Spring Bonnie suit, and thus being represented in yellow text just like in Fruity Maze. But then, if all the gold text is William, what about the trailer for FNaF 3? That's clearly referring to William, as it's Scraptrap's catchphrase of "I always come back."
Then comes Mrs. Afton.
My analysis of the Midnight Motorist minigame is that it's not Mr. Afton talking about his son, but Mrs. Afton. Michael says "he had a rough day," and that she should leave him alone.
Note that Michael is present in the minigames, but the Bite Victim isn't. The "later that night" suggests that this is a date we've seen before, but both of the other Lorekeeper minigames are murders from William, so wouldn't he have the car that night? And where could William have run off to?
Well I have a theory that would explain that and the mysterious mound as well. What if this is the night the Bite Victim died? What if "he had a rough day" is referring to What if William had, like, a place that he frequently went to, that was, like, a massive underground bunker somewhere close to his house where he performed resurrection experiments?
I think that the mound is the enterance to what would become Circus Baby's Entertainment & Rental, and William is putting the soul of his son in what would eventually become Funtime Freddy. That's why William had to break into his son's room (which Mrs. Afton demands her son opens, not knowing he's dead) from the outside (note the lack of broken glass on the outside) to find things he can use. That's why the Fredbear plush ends up in the Private Room of Entertainment & Rental.
I think this theory explains a lot. Sure, it's a lot of speculation, and the evidence throughout the minigame itself is sporatic and seemingly meaingless, but... well, the evidence throughout the minigame itself is sporatic and seemingly meaningless. We kind of have to speculate and find whatever matches all the evidence. This theory, the one about Mrs. Afton being the Midnight Motorist, I 100% believe in. However I'm about to go into some crazy territory that I'm not at all sure about.
Let's take it a step further. Or, more accurately, about three steps further.
The Freddy Files, as riddled with mistakes as it is, clearly wants us to believe that the Psychic Friend Fredbear is a camera. And Sister Location supports this, putting the familiar Fredbear plush holding a remote (or a walkie talkie?) next to a picture of what we can presume to be Michael's room, though this part can be put into interpretation. Nevertheless, it seems like it's setting up the idea that William is spying on his kids. Perhaps even talking to them through the plushie.
But the plushie uses gold text. If we tie this back to Midnight Motorist, one of the Bite Victim's parents does use gold text. His mother. His mother might just be the one spying on him.
Here's the ridiculous part, though: the FNaF 3 trailer. Mrs. Afton disappears for most of the series. Putting the Midnight Motorist minigame on the night of BV's death, it's the last time she's ever seen or heard of again, not counting Ballora. Until, of course, she comes back.
Whoever was trying to collect all traces of Fazbear Entertainment, the haunted suits, William Afton, the Puppet, and Michael in a building with faulty wiring (because of course we don't know anyone in the series who would do that) may have simply contacted the ex-wife of a convicted child murderer in the process. Someone who knows that he always comes back. Someone who might be motivated to find a "place" for him.
You ready, though, for the kicker? Because I lied. That isn't the ridiculous part at all. That's pretty solid.
Fruity Maze.
What if William wasn't the killer? What if Mrs. Afton is the actual person behind the Missing Children Incident, using a disguise that she knew would be traced to William? It's a plan that we know worked out, seeing as everyone (including the entire fanbase) blames William for these murders.
Yes, William is the one who killed Henry's daughter. Springtrap is called a killer in FNaF World, and Henry definitely hates William. But what about Go Go Go? Well, the 8-bit style and the fact that Foxy and the Puppet, the two people who can't be fooled by the mask, are also the two people who see Purple Guy kill in the minigames, indicate that these are animatronic memories and not literal bit-by-bit events. The animatronics also think that William is the one who did it.
But that's not what the yellow text says....anyway, that was a theory. I don't believe in it myself. Well, the Midnight Motorist part I stand by 100%, but I think that everything else is just a coincidence. Text styles doesn't fully matter, since it's probably William saying "you can't" in white text, which is the same text used by Shadow Freddy, the Bite Victim, and literally everyone in FNaF World. But I think the evidence and the story dictate that Cassidy is the one talking in FNaF 4, and William is definitely responsible for the MCI. As for the FNaF 3 trailer, yellow is the theme of the entire game, and it really doesn't feel like it was meant to be anyone in particular talking at the time. But if it has to be someone, it's Henry, although, who knows, maybe the two were married?
But either way, congratulations to me. I went this entire post without starting fights about how a certain word is spelled differently amongst the US and the UK - a word which you'd think I couldn't avoid using.
Take care, ~Cutesy
