Plot[]

Mandy Mason is a junior who is picked on for her weird interests and hobbies. At home, she carries around a photo of her brother, Bobby, who passed away when he was young. Mandy spends her free time writing fanfiction about the Five Nights at Freddy's games series, as well as participating in the FNaF community on online forums and her own blog, The M&M Scoop. On a whim, she downloads FNaF3 on her phone and decompiles it, copying how other theorists in the community would find clues in the games. Mandy finds a file called lookshauntednow.jpg, a colorless photo of an old metal building with a street name attached to it. She posts the image online and she spots something red flash in the corner of her eye. The next day, Mandy asks her dad about it and he suggests that it's inspiration. After being bullied and getting her longboard stolen, she returns home to downvotes, as no one else can find the image in the files.

Mandy begins seeing quick flashes of things around her — a blue shoe and a ghostly boy with brown hair — but they all disappear as soon as she blinks. She has dreams of the ghost boy in different locations she recognizes from the FNaF games, such as Fazbear's Fright, and the boy looks progressively paler and more decayed each time. Mandy tells her online friend, Lindy, about it, and tries looking up possible reasons for being haunted.

Mandy reverse image searches the building and finds out it's located on Willow Field Road, Peace Valley, Utah. With help from Lindy, she narrows the location down to a building called Old Cinemas. Mandy convinces her mother to let her join her on a business trip to Cedar City, and there she travels to Peace Valley and looks through the town's records, finding out that the building used to be called Sideshow's Snack Shack that ran for three years, but shut down 17 years ago after a young boy went missing. The boy was suspected to be kidnapped, and the main suspect is dubbed "The Purple Man" after a paper sketch of the suspect was made hastily in purple ink, reminding Mandy of William Afton.

Mandy and Lindy meet up and Mandy tells her about the missing boy and her theory on how it connects to the story of FNaF. The two visit Old Cinemas and talk to a maintenance worker named Jim who has worked in the building before Sideshow's Snack Shack closed down. He tells them the story of the missing boy: the boy, named Stevie Robins, and his mother would visit every day, but every time they were about to leave, the boy would hide and his mom would have to find him. One time, his mother was not able to find him, and he was assumed to be kidnapped, even though Jim never saw the suspicious man. The two leave and Mandy tries to connect the stories to FNaF, promising to prove the connection.

Mandy returns the next day around the same time as Mrs. Robins, who visits often. Jim takes Mandy to a storage room and lets her look around. Mandy finds the room filled with old merchandise from Sideshow's Snack Shack and finds an old, smelly bear animatronic, Sideshow, in the corner. As she heads towards the bear, the ghost reappears and surrounds her. The ghost knocks a newspaper clipping about Stevie Robins off a cardboard box, causing Mandy to realize the ghost is actually Stevie Robins. Stevie reappears and climbs up Sideshow and twists the head a little before disappearing. Mandy follows suit and removes the head of the bear, finding the decomposed corpse of Stevie, with brown hair and a red shirt.

Investigators and police arrive at the scene, and Jim thanks Mandy for solving the long unsolved case of Stevie Robins. Mandy's mother arrives and Mandy tries her best to hold back tears as she comforts her. Before they leave to the hotel, Mrs. Robins approaches Mandy and personally thanks Mandy for finally bringing closure to her. Later, Mandy cries during the entire flight home. Once home, she finally opens up to her parents about how she is bullied at school, how the death of Bobby affected her, how accepted the FNaF community makes her feel, and how solving the mystery of Stevie made her feel. They agree to spend more time together as a family.

On her blog, Mandy states that she will not explain what she found out of respect for the families involved. She writes that while she may never understand the full mystery of the building and its connection to FNaF, she is content with that. Mandy ends the post by writing, "The only thing I am certain of is, if the creator wanted us to know, I think he would tell us."

Lindy tells Mandy that she's viewed as a hero on local news, and that they determined that Stevie tried to hide inside the suit but accidentally snapped his neck inside. Mandy reveals that the ghost boy was Stevie to Lindy, and she is shocked. At school, Mandy stands up to her bullies, and all the other students applaud her for it. She also makes a new friend.

One night, Mandy gets a knock on the door and finds a happy, alive-looking Stevie. He thanks her, then tells Mandy "Bobby says hello." and she smiles, watching him disappear.

Speculation[]

WitheredChica-Icon "I was the first! I have seen everything!"

This section archives a lot of theories and speculation, which usually occurs from pre-release media, or just things that are still unknown, so please keep that in mind while reading. The page will continue to be updated with the most accurate information as more solid evidence is supplied.

  • Mandy's final blog post ends with "The only thing I am certain of is, if the creator wanted us to know, I think he would tell us." The may be a message from FNaF's creator, Scott Cawthon, telling people who are interested in solving the lore that some mysteries will remain unsolved.

Trivia[]

  • One of the websites Mandy finds herself on is called "GamerzUnite"
  • This is the sixth story to have a happy, uplifting ending. The other stories are Into the Pit, Out of Stock, Coming Home, Blackbird, and The Cliffs.
  • This is the second story to feature FNaF in a meta sense (the FNaF series being a video game series within the story), the first being In the Flesh.
    • However, The Scoop seems to treat FNaF as an entirely fictional franchise, without a real-world Fazbear Entertainment. Instead, Sideshow's Snack Shack seems to serve as the "inspiration" for the FNaF games.
  • At one point in the story, Mandy says "Until tomorrow, FNaF World", this is a possible reference to the spin-off game of the same name.
  • The physical copy of the story credits Scott Cawthon as the author of the story, however all other copies credit Kelly Parra as the author, with Scott simply having cowritten as he did with her previous stories.
    • This is also confirmed by her website, which lists her as the author of the story.[1]
