“...So your Dad gave you a cassette tape player, with a tape with quiet music that he made for you so you could sleep.” |
The Tape Player, also referred to as Tape-Player, is an on-screen cassette player that is used by Mary Schmidt in Five Nights at Candy's 3.
Physical Description[]
The Tape Player is a gray tape recorder with five buttons that can play, pause, stop, rewind, and fast-forward cassettes. The play button is colored green, whereas the rest are light gray. It is decorated with stickers of a lion, a palm tree, a rainbow, and a pink flower. Inside there is a tape labelled "my sleep music."
Usage[]
The tape player has three working buttons: PLAY, PAUSE, and REWIND.
The PLAY button will start the tape, playing Mary's "my sleep music." When the tape is playing, time will go twice as fast in-game, making nights go faster and ultimately optimizing the game. The tape player will play for approximately 49 seconds before the tape runs out.
The REWIND button will rewind the tape. It will take a while before it finishes rewinding, and when it's finished, the tape can be played again. The player does not need to be watching the tape player while it is rewinding.
The STOP button stops the tape, and afterwards, the player can press the play button to continue the tape. In later nights, Monster Rat (or Monster Vinnie or Shadow Rat) can corrupt the tape, and it will not speed up time. When this happens, the player must stop the tape and then play it again to return it back to normal.
The tape player is not required to complete the night.

Trivia[]
- The challenge "Silent Night" will make the tape player completely silent.
- Occasionally, this challenge can be helpful for the player, as the full silence can let the player focus on the Monster's sounds.
- The challenge "My Wake-up Music" completely reworks the tape player, making it not speed up time, but rather keep the player awake. If the tape isn't playing for a while, the player's view will slowly fade into black before getting jumpscared.
- The fact that, according to Origami Cat and the tape's name, the tape is Mary's sleep music, explains why playing the tape makes the night go faster, as presumably the protagonist sleeps throughout the night.
