Plot[]
Jeremiah, Hope, and Parker are the only three left working at a small game development company that was recently bought out by Fazbear Entertainment to develop their new virtual reality game. Jeremiah began working four years ago, right after college, and for the past three years they've faced increasing layoffs and a decreasing amount of revenue. Jeremiah is in love with Hope, who’s been working every other job for the past three years, but every time he tries to confess Parker steps in and takes the attention away. One day, Parker sneaks apple cider vinegar into Jeremiah’s coffee, and while Hope finds it funny she deletes the video Parker took.
The next day, Jeremiah hears Hope laughing and finds his two coworkers staring at Parker’s computer screen. Jeremiah tries calling for them but they refuse to look away, so he raises his voice and finally gets their attention. Hope promises that Parker will be on his best behavior today, and Jeremiah goes to work. Eventually Parker goes out to buy sandwiches and they have lunch in the break room, where they discuss Kingdom of Bones. Distracted by Hope’s smile, Jeremiah bites into a hot chip that Parker slipped into his normal chips. Hope apologizes for Parker’s behavior, not finding this particular prank funny, and tells Jeremiah that the two of them compliment each other. Jeremiah joins his friends Matt and Ty for their usual round of Tuesday team trivia at Leonardo’s Pizza. He tells them about his and Hope’s interaction, and Ty tells him to ask her out.
Jeremiah is too nervous at first, but he eventually takes their advice. Unfortunately, he arrives at work to see Hope and Parker about to put on their VR headsets. Parker asks Jeremiah to open up the testing room, get things running so they can do a practice run, and monitor the computer. Jeremiah tries to stay focused, but every couple of minutes he hears “intimate-sounding” laughter coming from the testing room and is disgusted by the idea of Parker and Hope making out with each other. After the two leave the room, he excuses himself and heads home, noticing Hope biting her lower lip. Jeremiah remembers that tomorrow is his birthday, which makes him even more miserable. The next day his mother sends him a text wishing him a happy birthday and tells him he has a gift card in the mail. Jeremiah thinks back to his childhood traditions of Pancakes and Presents, and when his mom and dad took him and his friends to Freddy’s for an evening of pizza and games.
At work, Jeremiah finds the office lit by strings of tiny fairy lights and a huge banner with balloons surrounding it saying “Happy Birthday, Jeremiah!” In the break room he finds a cake just like the ones he got for his childhood birthday. Blue icing on the top spells his name as Jeremy, but it’s close enough and the number of candles on the cake is right too. Jeremiah is touched by the gesture and tries to find where Hope and Parker are hiding, but eventually gives up and goes back to his desk. A deep and electronic voice plays on the loudspeaker, and he assumes it’s Parker. The voice announces they have taken Parker and Hope hostage and will kill them if Jeremiah calls the police. He’s given the choice to either flee the building and live to see another birthday or try to save his friends within 30 minutes. Wanting to make a good impression on Hope and triumphing over Parker’s prank, Jeremiah agrees to save them.
Jeremiah’s first clue is an anagram, STINGER MOOT. He deduces it’s testing room and finds a small gift box. Inside are seven human teeth and a second clue, which sends Jeremiah to the copy room. He finds a jar containing whole removed fingernails and freaks out, but assures himself they are props. The third clue tells Jeremiah there’s even more frights and to follow the string of tiny lights. With ten minutes left he reaches the conference room, finding three eyes. Jeremiah concludes they’re from the medical supply company on the third floor and calms down. A new string of lights leads him to the PR office, where a medium-sized gift box sits on the desk with about twelve to thirteen fingers inside, many chopped into fragments and two missing fingernails. Jeremiah vomits and sees Hope’s ring, but is slightly relieved to find a freckle on the finger proving it isn’t hers. Disturbed, Jeremiah follows the lights to the boss’s old room and finds a cardboard box with two round holes. He’s disgusted to feel fresh intestines and finds a key. Jeremiah follows the lights to a locked office with a medium-sized, flat box. He screams as he finds the stripped-off face of Parker and the voice taunts him.
Jeremiah realizes everything is real and tries to escape. The elevator doesn’t work so he goes down the stairwell, running past a recent blood smear on a wall. Jeremiah makes it down all fifteen flights of stairs only to discover nearly all the doors locked. He runs back up and stops to catch his breath on the sixth floor, noticing the same tiny lights hung along the ceiling leading to a faint glow. Jeremiah follows them and finds an old TV sitting in an empty room. He spots a VCR and presses play, revealing a video by Parker and Hope. Parker remarks that he never thought he’d pull it off in time due to setting up the motion sensors and the loudspeaker, but Hope’s happy everything worked out perfectly. Jeremiah notices the table behind them has sharp kitchen scissors and a variety of knives. Parker says that they would need to go to a hospital, then yells “Okay, Parker! He’s ready! Give us a knock!” before holding pliers and laughing. Jeremiah hears knocks coming from a supply closet in the room and watches as it slowly inches open.
Speculation[]
- The first clue in the story is "STINGER MOOT", which may be referring to the Stitchwraith Stingers. This could potentially imply that the epilogues are not important, although it is unknown whether this meaning was just a coincidence.
Trivia[]
- This is the first story where it's unclear who the antagonist is.
- However, The Ultimate Guide states the antagonist is a alternate version of Glitchtrap. This may or may not be true.
- This is the shortest story in both the Fazbear Frights and Tales from the Pizzaplex series with 42 pages.
- The company Jeremiah works in is making a virtual reality game for Fazbear Entertainment, similar to Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted.
- This is the sixth story with an ambiguous ending that's left up to interpretation. The others include Count the Ways, Fetch, Dance with Me, The Breaking Wheel and Sergio's Lucky Day.
