Plot[]
Payton and Marley are best friends just entering high school. Marley convinces Payton to take home economics since she believes it will be an easy A. When Mrs. Crutchfield, the teacher, catches Payton making a pun about a Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza Kit, she informs the class that they will be joining the culinary arts class for a visit to the Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza Kit Factory next week. At home, Payton’s mother asks about class and tells Payton that she thinks Payton lets Marley boss her around too often. Later, Marley takes Payton out to eat ice cream and feed ducks. When around Marley, Payton feels incredibly self-conscious. Payton stays past dark despite her parent’s directions and as she’s running home she comes across Abigail Sullivan, her old best friend. Payton’s mother scolds Payton for having been out so late, once again bringing up how she doesn’t think Marley is as good of an influence as Abigail was.
When the day of the Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza Kit Factory trip arrives, Payton is relieved to get a break from the class’s usual antics. Marley, however, isn’t excited at all since she believes Freddy Fazbear’s for babies. Once at the factory, they meet Ms. Bryant, the factory manager, who is dressed in a Chica costume. She makes all the students put on net caps, which makes Marley annoyed. Everyone is then given a card and a pencil so they can check off toppings and get their very own Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza Kit. Finally, they are given earplugs as they enter the first part of the factory, where the dough is mixed. Next they are brought into a hot room where pizza sauce is made, which Marley says is gross, and the assembly line, where the pizzas are put together.
When the group enters the topping bar, they are given time to pick what toppings they want. Payton chooses pepperoni and mushrooms, but as the rest of the group is heading into the pizza packaging center Marley decides to go up a set of metal stairs. Payton is hesitant to join, but Marley convinces her. They reach a catwalk full of steam and Payton notices a sign that says “FALL WARNING.” She tries convincing Marley to return to the group, but Marley is having too much fun. When reminded of Payton’s fear of heights, Marley assures her the factory has safety regulations that would protect them. To prove this she runs around and jumps, freaking Payton out. Marley dismisses Payton’s fears and leans on the railing after seeing a sign saying not to. Marley falls into the steam below, and when Payton goes to check on her she’s nowhere to be seen. Payton’s unsure if she fell into the vats of sauce and can’t tell her own imagination from reality. She then worries what people will think if she tells the truth, so she returns to the group and tells Mrs. Crutchfield that Marley ran off.
At home, Marley's mother calls and desperately asks Payton for information about Marley's disappearance. Payton lies and says she thinks she bailed, which isn’t out of character for Marley to do. When she hangs up, Payton and her mother talk about what could have happened to her. Having already lied to Mrs. Crutchfield, Marley’s mom, and her own mom, Payton worries what will happen if she backtracks and tells the truth. She decides to go on a walk, where she once again runs into Abigail. This time, she decides to stop and speak with her. Payton realizes how much she misses Abigail as she explains the book she’s currently reading. Abigail then talks to Payton about Marley, saying that while she is jealous that Payton abandoned her for Marley she doesn’t want anything bad to happen to her. She also tells Payton that a few students claimed to have heard a scream at the factory. Payton’s mother comes and picks her up for dinner.
Payton barely eats any dinner and cries in her room. Her mother brings her cinnamon toast and hot chocolate and tries her best to comfort Payton, which makes her feel slightly better. That night, Payton has a nightmare where she is in Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza Kit factory looking for her group. She comes across a cauldron and watches as Freddy Fazbear pulls out human limbs and puts them in the cauldron. When Freddy pulls out a human head, he turns it and reveals it’s Marley’s. The next day, Payton listens to all the rumors about Marley’s disappearance. She’s called to the front office where her mother and a police officer are waiting in order to question her. Payton’s incredibly nervous but still manages to tell the officer what she’s told everyone else.
In home ec class, the Freddy Fazbear Pizza Kits have been delivered. Each student is called up one by one to collect them, and when Payton collects hers she feels what she hopes is tomato sauce leaking from the bottom. She inspects the contents of the box and thinks that the dough looks more like Caucasian skin and the pepperoni is too soft and smooth, like a tongue. Payton hesitantly cooks the pizza and tells herself to eat it to avoid drawing attention to herself. The pizza was evidence that she abandoned Marley, and she needed to destroy the evidence. As Payton eats the pizza, she notes a fatty and gristly taste. After she finishes eating, she feels extremely sick. At home, Payton’s mother suggests lying down so she returns to her room.
Payton feels something bumping against her stomach and sees it expanding and contracting. She remembers having watched an episode of a TV show where a woman describes having taken a large tapeworm out of her by placing raw steak on her tongue. Payton decides to do the same with raw hamburger, wondering if she had actually eaten a worm instead of Marley. She runs to the bathroom and looks in the mirror, and she eventually feels something making its way up. Payton begins choking and sees a hand coming out of her now stretched-out throat. The hand continues to come out, making her lips crack and bleed. Unable to breathe, Payton runs to the door which causes the hand to retreat. She questions if what just happened was real, and when she goes to brush her teeth lumps form on her throat. Her skin begins to stretch as it moves up to her face, and the growing pressure causes her eyeballs to propel from her face. Bits of compressed flesh and tissue begin to squeeze out of Payton’s eyes, mouth, nostrils, and ears. As Payton falls to her knees due to the increasing pressure, she whispers Marley’s name.
Payton wakes up from her nightmare and runs outside to violently vomit for several minutes. When she returns to bed, she hears a rustling noise outside where she had just vomited, and when it gets louder she questions if it’s Marley. Payton then fears that Marley may want revenge for abandoning her in the factory and lying about her disappearance. She then fears that it’s actually what was left of Marley like what happened in her nightmare.[1] When the doorbell rings, Payton opens her window and realizes the only escape from Marley is up. She plans to wait until Marley leaves, but when the doorbell rings again she flinches.
Marley stands on Payton’s front porch, waiting for her friend to open the door. She had liked being missing, but hiding in the pizza factory had become boring and she had begun to miss her normal life. Marley had visited his boyfriend first, and is now visiting Payton's house to let her know that she is okay. She hears a sound come from the other side of her house and goes to investigate. Marley finds Payton on the ground with a twisted neck. Payton’s dead terrified eyes stare right at Marley, and Marley screams.
Trivia[]
- The summary erroneously states that Marley's friend disappeared in the factory, when it was actually Marley who disappears.
- Payton is also referred to as Marley on accident several times throughout the story.
- The summary also gets the name of the Freddy Fazbear Pizza Kit Factory wrong, instead calling it "Freddy's Pizza Factory".
- This is the second story where there is no true antagonist, the first being The Real Jake.
- Since Marley turned out to be safe and alive the whole time, it's revealed that what Payton has been seeing and hearing throughout the story were fear-induced hallucinations, manifesting her guilt for leaving Marley behind.
- K-pop is referenced as one of the posters on Payton's wall.[2]
- Marley's supposed "death" parallels to how Payton dies, from falling to her death.
- Five Nights At Freddy's: Into The Pit has a reference to Pizza Kit in a newspaper you can find in Jeff's Pizza.
