Pirate Captain, also known as Captain Cobalt, is an animatronic in Murray's Costume Manor. He first appears in Five Nights at Freddy's: Secret of the Mimic as an animatronic Arnold builds.
Physical Appearance[]
The Pirate Captain is a metal springlock suit that resembles a pirate captain. He has painted on clothes that consist of a blue and gold captain's coat with with a white undershirt, grey pants, and brown shoes. He wears a pirate's hat with tentacles hanging on it, and has a mounted canon on his right arm with a squeaky octopus on it.
The Captain has golden eyes and a gaping mouth- for the wearer to see through- with large bottom canines and a tongue sticking out. He also has a mane of dreadlocks with golden accents.
Functionality[]
Pirate Captain is a springlock animatronic suit, being composed of several individual spring-powered locking mechanisms. If someone is operating his suit, the person must be careful not to touch or lubricate any of the springlocks and keep them tightly wound.
The suit is made to be used in tandem with the "First Mate Foxy's Perfect Surprise" puppet show. The puppet show is automated, with the only human actor being the one wearing the captain suit. They shoot targets with the suit's cannon arm to progress the play.
History[]
The Pirate Captain springlock was a suit made by Murray's Costume Manor that was used with the theater's puppet show.
During the events of Secret of the Mimic, Arnold needs a springlock suit to access the theater. He gathers pieces of the suit throughout the warehouse and carries the to the workshop where they are put together and the springlocks are energized.
He then climbs into the suit and rides a lift to the next area, but before he can board the next one, the power fails. Arnold is forced to exit the suit and repair the power before entering it again and entering the theater.
Arnold is forced to exit the suit again to clear the way. After which, he puts it back on and gets into the theater, placed on a balcony as the show begins. He uses the suit to hit targets to get through the story, but during the course of the performance the theater begins to fall apart. At the end of it, the balcony collapses and Arnold blacks out.
Arnold then wakes up at the Doll Hospital, still inside of the Captain suit. Dollie approaches and diagnoses the suit as having a foreign object (Arnold) stuck inside, explains the procedure to remove the object, and then leaves. Arnold then exits the suit and continues through the service hospital, leaving the Captain suit behind.
Trivia[]
- Concept artwork of Pirate Captain by Angel Manila, a concept artist at Steel Wool, labels him under the name "Captain Cobalt." It is currently unknown if this is the characters true official name or an early one made during concept stages.
- Due to the design, specifically the hair looking like a mane, the Pirate Captain is often mistaken to be a lion. It's through the blueprints that it can be seen that he is actually a bulldog.
- Dollie mentions that the Pirate Captain suit has had at least one springlock failure in the past and had been taken to the Doll Hospital for repairs.
