“You sighed, and your exoskeleton looks like it's being built by a blind man without opposable thumbs. I wondered if you wanted some help.” |
Dilbert "Pickle" Girard is a major character in The Breaking Wheel, the second story of Fazbear Frights #7: The Cliffs. He is a teenage science nerd and one of Reed's few friends.
Physical Appearance[]
Pickle is short and dark, like his twin sister Shelly. He has unusually deep-set eyes, a nearly black unibrow, a strangely small mouth filled with crooked teeth, and a big, long beaky nose. Despite his eating habits, Pickle is rather skinny.
Personality[]
Pickle is a science nerd who can come off as thoughtless sometimes because he gets wrapped up in his books and projects. He’s also rather matter-of-fact with his behavior and intelligence, which adds to his unintentionally mean demeanor. Pickle is too uninterested in others’ shortcomings to make fun of them like Julius, and he can usually come off as disinterested. He also loves eating and mathematics. Pickle lacks coordination, making him a bit clumsy at times. He also can’t read interpersonal visual cues, struggling to decipher facial expressions, body language, and other social cues. To make up for it, Pickle remembers everything he reads and hears.
History[]
Reed had been friends with Shelly and Pickle for nearly ten years around the time the story takes place. In their freshman year, Shelly and Pickle convince Reed to join a robotics class. In the first week of class, Pickle begins to believe that the teacher is an android, and begins planning on proving his hypothesis, however Shelly doesn't let him go forward with any plans.
During their spring semester, Pickle makes a vaguely man-shaped small metal skeleton controlled by an RF remote, using the RF as an IR extender. One day, Julius complains that Pickle’s remote accidentally controls his suit. Pickle, however, argues that Julius could just install an RFI filter in his signal path or check his macros, joking that he may have stolen his. These remarks embarrass Julius.
Today is a half day due to a teacher's conference, so when the bell rings everyone packs up and heads home. Pickle is tripped by Julius as he's heading out, which no one except Reed notices. Pickle’s big nose begins to bleed and he runs out of the room. They save a seat for Reed on the bus, and when Reed finally arrives Pickle's nose is red, swollen, and smeared with blood with tissues in them. While on the bus ride home, he does some sort of numbers puzzle. He tells Reed that it hurts, but it’s not the first time it's been broken so he can ignore it.
At the Girards' house, Mrs. Girard treats Pickle's nose, declaring that it’s bruised but not broken and cleaning it up, applying a herbal cream and giving him an ice pack. Later, he sits cross-legged in his dad's blue tweed recliner, reading a book on advanced engineering mathematics. He's so focused on studying that he fails to hear his mother announce that she's leaving. When Reed sighs at his exoskeleton, Pickle stops reading to ask if Reed wants his help. When Reed declines his help, he returns to reading until Reed asks how much range his remote has when his six-years-old brother, Ory, starts playing with it. Pickle admits to have never considered it, but assumes the outer walls of the house would prevent it from going far.
When Pickle asks why Reed asked, Reed claims that he's just finds the little robot very impressive. Pickle thinks about it but before he can question further, Ory begins to slam Pickle's little robot into Shelly's miniature house. Shelly begins to chase Ory around the house as he repeatedly slams the robot into the house. Pickle steps in and shows Shelly that the robot isn't harming the house. Shelly returns to her book as Pickle has Ory give the robot back to make it more fun. Pickle flips a switch on the little robot and when Ory pushes a button on it, the robot stands on his head. Reed asks and Pickle explains that he turned off the joint constraints. He watchs Ory play with the remote for a bit before returning to his book.
When Reed gets up to free Julius, Pickle stops him to ask where he's going. Reed fails to come up with a good excuse and Pickle tells Shelly that he thinks something is wrong with Reed. Shelly tells Pickle that sometimes Reed doesn't make any sense, and she likes him for that. Pickle asks Reed again what he's going to do, but that's when something large hits the outside of the house. Shelly and Pickle excuse the noise as strong winds or a fallen tree branch.
Pickle gets hungry again and asks Shelly if there's any remaining chicken wings or poppers. Shelly reports that they're all gone and is shocked that Pickle is once again hungry, and asks if he's thirsty instead. Ory, who is now running the little robot in circles around the miniature house, calls out that he wants a soda. Shelly has to remind her siblings that their mother got rid of the soda after reading an article on the combination of sugar and carbonation. Pickle says that she's making their lives suck, which makes Reed very upset as, compared to him, they have much more. As Reed hears something crawl up against the side of the house, Pickle apologizes for saying they aren't lucky, and uses that to segway into begging Shelly for soda.
Reed runs upstairs and when Pickle asks, he claims to be looking for a book. Pickle lets him go upstairs, calling Reed family. As Reed looks around upstairs, the Girard siblings continue to argue over the soda, and eventually they decide to go down to the corner to get sodas. Reed decides to stay behind, and as the Girards are leaving Pickle tells Reed not to tell their mom where they went. When they return home, Shelly tells Pickle that building a better torture device than anything from the medieval ages isn't an accomplishment to be proud of. When Ory asks to play with the remote, Pickle tells him to go nuts and returns to reading.
