POPGOES Evergreen is the upcoming third installment of the rebooted POPGOES series developed by Kane Carter. The POPGOES series only considers the first three Five Nights at Freddy's games as canon, as well as the Five Nights at Candy's series by Emil Macko, myPOPGOES, and POPGOES Arcade. The game is part of the Fazbear Fanverse Initiative.

Summary[]

POPGOES is an official, fan-developed Five Nights at Freddy's spinoff series that only takes the first three FNAF games into account, and POPGOES Evergreen is the newest entry, officially backed by Scott Cawthon as part of the Fazbear Fanverse Initiative.

One year has passed after the fire at Fazbear's Fright. An inventor has single-handedly revived the animatronic restaurant genre with his own location called The Popgoes Pizzeria. Promising total safety with his advanced and well-behaved animatronics, the man truly believes he might own the greatest family restaurant ever.

However, Popgoes the Weasel and his animatronic gang are only well-behaved because that's how they were programmed. Popgoes sings and makes pizza, Blake helps kids with their WeaselWare phones, Stone gives directions outside the building... They all do exactly as they are told, as any robot should.

But, unfortunately for you, it looks like somebody has just told them to do something else...

Good luck!

Gameplay[]

The gameplay of POPGOES Evergreen will be overhauled drastically. Mechanics will mostly stay the same, but their execution will be improved as much as possible. The game will feature seamless turning animations, easier-to-understand office interactions, and at least one new mechanic that we're having a lot of fun brainstorming. We are also removing the "brain minigames" and replacing them with something brand new.

Rebooted Content[]

As stated in the Game Jolt page, Popgoes Evergreen will have several differences from the original, including:

Story[]

POPGOES Evergreen has a refined story that will be familiar to POPGOES fans, but with some interesting changes that should be surprising and satisfying. Throughout the years I have thought about how certain parts of the story could be improved, removed, or added to, and this reboot gives me the opportunity to present the best version of POPGOES possible.

Replayability[]

We have spent a lot of time thinking about replayability for POPGOES Evergreen. We think it's important for extra content to exist for players who want to go the extra mile, and because of that we have designed a massive collectibles system, with around 100 things to unlock in total. If you're a completionist, expect a LOT of stuff to do, and even more if you buy the paid version of the game!

Design[]

Everything in this game will be designed, modeled, drawn... from scratch. That includes every character and every room. Some characters will change more than others, but we're trying our best to make everything a huge improvement. The original POPGOES is over 5 years old now!

Development[]

The official reboot for POPGOES was announced in 2020, April Fools Day. Along with that, came the reveal of POPGOES Arcade which released on June 12th of that same year. Getting a full 100% completion of that game gained the player access to the Arcade Room with the new Popgoes model.

The original name for the game was simply POPGOES 2020 Edition. However, due to delays in the development it was clear to the team it wouldn't get a 2020 release. It was their believe it was necessary for the audience to know the name change as soon as possible.[1] Via a YouTube premiere on August 9th, 2020, the new title was eventually revealed: POPGOES Evergreen.[2]

Less than two weeks later on August 22nd, Scott Cawthon announced the Fazbear Fanverse Initiative on Reddit, which promises a handful of fangame titles to receive merch, console releases and other such perks.[3] Alongside other popular series, POPGOES Evergreen was included as being part of the Fanverse.

On September 24th, 2020 Kane Carter went into more detail on the Fazbear Fanverse Initiative via a YouTube video. Once again, POPGOES Evergreen is noted to be part of the Fanverse and said to have premium content for the paid versions.

On November 22, 2020 Kane Carter wrote a progress report on the game. While Evergreen has been the team's main focus, POPGOES and The Machinist and Minecraft: Ghosts & Graves were also being worked on. Also at that point in development, only five rooms have been fully modeled out of the eleven that the game requires. On the programming side of development, Kane Carter is fully confident in Emil Macko and Garrett Tube's programming skills and, with all of the visual assets completed, believes the game could be completed in only a few months. Secondly, Kane Carter describes wanting the game to have replayability and talked about phone skins and collectibles that exist in the Popgoes Pizzeria (Which were revealed to be cards as seen in Dawko's 24-hour charity livestream). Kane Carter finishes the report by expressing how proud he is of his team.

January 10th, 2021, a new problem was presented to the team: A large number of assets in the Kitchen were purchased online rather than being custom made. 8 days later, all of the assets were recreated to be custom made. The original modeler of the team left the team despite that, though Kane assures that their relationship to the team is still on equal ground. More detail on the Kitchen was discussed, and a flashlight feature on the cameras was announced on January 22nd of 2021. Kane Carter believes the claustrophobic nature of the flashlight feature makes the game scarier and also estimates the game to be 15% finished.

On January 30th, 2021, Kane Carter uploaded a big POPGOES Evergreen FAQ on the game's Game Jolt page. Among the questions asked, a console port is "planned" but no updates can be given as it's without Kane's control, the premium content being non-canon, deconfirming any characters from POPGOES 2: The Dead Forest to appear, Gem Stone; Grave Stone and the Lux animatronics to also be deconfirmed to appear while also confirming Simon to reappear due to his importance to the plot along with a "CRAZY good" redesign. The playable character's identity is also not confirmed, and Kane expects the audience to speculate who they are. The Car Park camera will have an use, while suggesting to the audience if they have any ideas for the Staff Room camera besides being an indicator for Sara and Saffron to be active. Accessibility for colorblind players, a normal and "true" ending, and a consideration of a sequel if Evergreen does well critically and financially.

On June 8th, 2021, because of the Evergreen's Game Jolt page reaching 10,000 followers, Stone the Crow's new design was fully revealed and, because of the milestone being reached before POPGOES' anniversary, its 2D design. As a regular status update, Odium was also announced to be joining the team as an animator, a new room would be replacing the Staff Room, and a final design was decided for Simon.

On June 26th, 2021, Dawko held a 24-hour charity livestream for the Trevor Project, a nonprofit organization focused on suicide prevention among LGBTQ youths. To assist with the project, and to coincide with POPGOES' 5th anniversary, Kane Carter held a charity pack that revealed certain parts of the rebooted POPGOES series via four stretch goals. All four goals were reached and revealed key artwork, music, the Art Room, and the introduction of cards; the collectibles in POPGOES Evergreen.

July 10th 2021 was when all of the rooms were revealed to be getting a scaled overhaul due to each room being a separate model; it was previously never intended for each room to be joined together at the same size. Kane appropriately dubbed this overhaul "Operation Embiggen".

A status update was posted on August 21, 2021. while focused on POPGOES Arcade, Kane still mentioned the status of POPGOES Evergreen, being "'early' in development."

As a follower goal, if POPGOES Evergreen's reached 13,000 followers before Dawko's stream on September 18th, 2021. Sara the Squirrel's new design would be revealed during that event. Appropriately too, stretch goals for the stream were announced that would reveal some more of Sara in Evergreen.

On September 21st of 2021, the official Tumblr account for POPGOES opened up with its first post describing the game and its perks.[4]

On November 29, 2021, Kane Carter revealed the first look for the new Blake the Badger.

Dawko took part in Jackscepticeye's Thankmas event on December 12th 2021, with a separate livestream on his own channel. As extra incentive to donate, stretch goals were created that revealed extra renders of Blake the Badger and a reveal of the Party Room.

On February 3, 2022, an update was posted, talking about what is going on with Popgoes.[5]

March 15th of 2022 revealed Saffron the Squirrel along with a handful of renders of her.

On June 3, 2022, Kane Carter was interviewed by Mag Freddy. He posted a FAQ about all the questions that he was asked.

0n July 9th, 2022, the "office" gameplay prototype for Popgoes Evergreen was revealed. The video showcased the unfinished gameplay, as well all sides of the office. The end of the video confirms that development is still in its early stages.[6] At the same time, Kane Carter revealed on his Twitter that a full day/night cycle for the game's "Endless" mode would be added, adding that the night would change in regular gameplay anyway.[7]

On August 25th, Kane Karter revealed on Twitter that the Toy animatronics will return in evergreen, via a test render of Toy Freddy in the Party Room.[8] They were clarified to not be easter eggs like in the original, but served a completely different purpose.[9]

On September 18 2022, a new phone case for Popgoes Evergreen, "PhoneUnit", was revealed.

On September 30, 2022, Kane Carter posted the first weekly update for Popgoes Evergreen. He stated that he will from now on continue making weekly progress updates for the game.[10]

August 2nd, Kane tweets there will not be a Custom Night, while also revealing some quick mockups for challenges.[11]

On August 5th, 2023, following the removal of Five Nights at Freddy's Plus from the Steam Store and Felipe Moraga's termination from the Fanverse project, Kane Carter released an image of a scrapped "Ghost Detector" phone case that he made in collaboration with Phil. [12]

On August 9, 2023. Although Popgoes can't be blocked yet, he can move correctly in the pizzeria and pick up and place Blackrabbit pieces. Parts are now placed in a specific order, but each can now be purchased from one of the three printers.

  • This means that Popgoes can technically print a single piece from each printer room (like the original game). Can visit some previous rooms. He can even print 3 pieces from one room and 3 pieces from the other if he wants to be really weird about it. It felt pretty random.
  • Also, these drawings are placeholder pictures drawn by Emil (Macko) to finish things early. Dynamic environment/music is programmed so the background sound becomes more frightening depending on the current level of constant panic.

On August 10, 2023, One Night at Flumpty's and Five Nights at Freddy's Plus (customization only, currently canceled and scrapped) versions of the panic bar were revealed. Kane Carter said that "it was fun to work on, even though it won't be added to the game right now".

On September 6, 2023, it was announced that every single Popgoes the Weasel render for the game was finished. There are over 60 unique positions, scenarios, and animations. [13]

On November 7, 2023, it was revealed that Sara the Squirrel's programming was complete and that all of her renders were implemented.[14]

On February 3, 2024, Kane posted a video on Game Jolt showcasing Early Programming for Sara the Squirrel.[15]

On February 18, 2024, Kane posted a teaser for False Freddy, inspired by Five Nights at Freddy's 2's first teaser image.[16]

On February 27, 2024, Kane showed off a slight redesign of The Popgoes Pizzeria's logo.[17]

On March 2nd, 2024, Kane showcased teasers on Dawko's Charity Stream such as an official title animation, a The Joy of Creation inspired Phone skin, Popgoes Beach based stickers by Youtooz, and finally a False Mangle model reveal.

On April 27, 2024, Kane released a update on all his projects. For Evergreen, he stated that progress on the game has been quite good, Garrett has been working on post-night environments, in-game engine test for the post-night environments have been made, and the designs for the main menu, phone selection, Token tree, card pack shop, save file, and sticker selection have all been finished. He goes on to say that there will be short intro animations for every level, night and post-night, that will feature the character introduced in the level.[18]

On December 7, 2024, Dawko had a Thankmas 2024 charity stream, and Kane provided reveals for six goals. Four of the six reveals were related to Popgoes Evergreen. This is what was shown off:
