“It's all about the blood.”
Nole has blue eyes, blond hair, has an athletic build and is 6'1". He has a scar on his knee from falling off his bike.
Nole is a very cool and confident person, not afraid to say explicit things about other people, such as commenting on their figure. By the end of the story and his experience with the Blackbird, he learns that his words have meaning and that he shouldn't be a jerk through his words.
When Nole was in his junior year of high school, he bullied a girl named Christine. He saw her as poor due to her wearing second-hand clothes, spreading rumors about it amongst the school and getting many of his classmates to join in on his teasing.
Nole confesses this to his best friend Sam many years later, seemingly lacking regret. Sam doesn't take it too well, due to the fact that he himself was being bullied to this day by others because his legs were slightly larger than normal. Nole doesn't realize the full extent of this until Sam is seemingly killed and ran over by a train. The Blackbird, a character he and Sam came up with, comes to life and stalks Nole. Knowing the rules and lore he and Sam had written for the character, Nole believes that the Blackbird is trying to punish him for his past transgression; bullying Christine.
Nole searches for Christine, eventually running into her father who owns a local restaurant. He tells Christine's father about the situation and takes Nole to her so he can apologize for what he did. Christine ended up becoming stronger and persevering through the bullying, which in turn boosted her self-confidence. She does forgive Nole, and he comes to learn that things he says have some type of impact.
Sam ends up back alive, and Nole apologizes to him too.
