Night 7, also known as Nightmare, is the seventh night unlocked after the completion of Night 6. It can be played in the Extra menu.

Gameplay[]

This is the seventh night. This night is harder than the others, as every animatronic is incredibly active. At 4 AM, this night also introduces Nightmare, who replaces Nightmare Fredbear. On the Halloween Edition, Nightmare is replaced by Nightmarionne, along with the other animatronics before 4 AM.

Strategy[]

Until 4 AM, strategies used in Night 4 and 6 should be applied, However the player should be cautious of the fact that the animatronics are more aggressive.

Once the player gets to 4 AM, all animatronics are replaced by Nightmare/Nightmarionne.

The same strategy for Nightmare Fredbear should be used, except that Nightmare moves even quicker and has a shorter kill time (10 seconds on Night 7, and 8 seconds on Night 8).

Challenges[]

As of the Halloween update, a list of challenges for this night are unlocked when completing Night 8, rewarding 6 extra stars on the main menu: 4 extra red ones, and 2 blue ones, all of which flash on the screen when achieved. There are four challenges: Blind Mode, Mad Freddy, Insta-Foxy, and All Nightmare.

Blind Mode[]

The screen is completely black and there is no time indicator to show what the time is at until the player is either jumpscared or completes the night. While active, this will also hide the House Map cheat, even if it is active, but the Fast Nights and Danger Indicator (at least, on mobile) cheats will still work.

In this mode, the screen is black, and nothing can be seen. The player should listen for sound cues and keep track of where they are at all times. Since the player cannot see anything, it is impossible to know what stage Nightmare Foxy/Nightmare Mangle is in when they enter the closet, so holding the doors shut for around 7 seconds should be enough.

Mad Freddy[]

Makes Nightmare Freddy more active, with an AI level of 10.

With this challenge, the main threat is Nightmare Freddy. After checking either the left hall or the right hall, it is recommended that the player should check the bed and get rid of all the Freddles. Also, to make the night easier, Nightmare Foxy/Nightmare Mangle should be kept out for as long as possible. At 4 AM, Nightmare/Nightmarionne replaces all the other animatronics.

Insta-Foxy[]

Nightmare Foxy/Nightmare Mangle is already in the closet at the start of the night.

All Nightmare[]

Every night will have Nightmare/Nightmarionne appear for the whole night. Additionally, their 8-second kill time from the game's 20/20/20/20 mode is preserved for this particular challenge, so players should be aware of that.

Nightmare/Nightmarionne will be the only active animatronic for the entire Night. Listen for sound cues and instantly shut the door when either animatronic stop moving. The player should use the same strategy for dealing with said animatronic at 4 AM normally.

Luckily, Nightmare/Nightmarionne can only do 2 real laughs, so after those 2 said laughs are up, it relies on the players' speed and them closing the doors fast enough.

Doing all four of these challenges rewards the player with 4 flashing red stars.

Mad Freddy + Insta Foxy + Blind Mode[]

This is possibly the hardest challenge in the game. Nightmare Freddy and Nightmare Foxy/Mangle should be the main priorities. Follow the same strategies that were used for the individual challenges. Also, this is somewhat harder on the Halloween edition, as Nightmare Mangle's static can make listening for audio cues harder.

Worse, is that Nightmare Bonnie and Nightmare Chica have a chance to come back to a door right after shutting it, so if this happens, it is ultimately a game over, handed by either the door animatronic the player winds up flashing their light at if they didn't listen for breathing, or the aggressive Nightmare Freddy when a player returns to check the bed (if not, then one of the other door animatronics will kill you instead). Asides from that, this challenge is highly luck-based, particularly with Nightmare, because if he doesn't spare the player with 2 real laughs and does a fake laugh instead, there's virtually no way to survive.

A very useful strategy for the 12-4 A.M. section of this challenge is checking the locations in this pattern: at the start, the player should go to the left door, run back, flash the bed then run to the closet. After this, the player should keep the closet shut on Nightmare Foxy for 6-7 seconds, run back, flash the bed, go to the left door, then the right door, then flash the bed again and repeat. This strategy requires some luck, as both Nightmare Bonnie and Nightmare Chica can be at their respective doors at the same time, which can give enough time for Nightmare Freddy to attack the player when they check the bed after fending them off. However, if the player is lucky enough, this can never happen.

All Nightmare + Blind Mode[]

Follow the same strategy as used in All Nightmare mode. Since the player can't see anything, this can make the Night harder. However, since only one animatronic is active in this challenge, it may be easier for the player to complete. Only shine the Flashlight when Nightmare/Nightmarionne's laugh is heard to tell whether they are in the room via their static sound. Be aware that they do 2 real laughs, so once those are up, ignore any laughter afterward and focus on footsteps and sound cues.

Doing these two hardest challenges rewards the player with 2 flashing blue stars.

End-of-Night Sequence[]

After completing Night 7, the player is brought to a screen with a box with two locks on it. Clicking the locks will cause them to jiggle around a bit but won't open or break them. After attempting, some text appears at the top of the screen reading "Perhaps some things are best left forgotten, for now." This is possibly hinting to the free update which was released on October 31. The game will then return to the title screen, rewarding the player with the third star on the title screen.

Trivia[]

  • This night is similar to Five Nights at Freddy's 3's "Nightmare", as it's not a Custom Night, but rather a harder version of the previous two nights.
  • Scott later revealed in a post on Steam that the contents of the box are the "pieces" of the story put together. After MatPat of The Game Theorists constructed a timeline, using Dream Theory, Cawthon heavily implied that he will not reveal the contents of the box, as "some things are best left forgotten, forever".[1] Still after that, the exact contents of the box, if any, are unknown, or so it was thought. The box was described in the alternate novel universe; the contents are described to be a possible human body.
  • A Reddit user by the name of Phisnom went into the game's coding to figure out that the box was originally meant to be opened after the eighth night. After 10 clicks on the locks, they would destroy themselves and the box would presumably open. Since the community did not figure out the majority of the lore as intended, the idea was scrapped.[citation needed]
