History[]
Nate is Delilah's employer and the owner of the diner. He calls Delilah twice on the day she bought Ella, first when she initially woke up at 6:25 a.m. and a second time at 2:25 p.m. after she's late for her replacement two o'clock shift. As Delilah is throwing Ella away, Nate opens the back door of the diner to let her in. The next day, Delilah arrives at work to discover that Nate had made two to ten her permanent shift. When asked why, Nate explains that he did it so Delilah isn't late, as he's constantly letting her arriving late slide. The two do some light teasing and Delilah starts her shift.
After many nights of being tormented by Ella, at 5:35 a.m., Delilah approaches Nate and asks to be put on the night shift. Nate is hesitant at first, as Delilah is a better manager than Grace and he much rather have Delilah work during the day, but he eventually agrees to make the swap. After freaking out at 1:35 a.m. for five nights and breaking salt and pepper shakers, Nate is called to the diner and he takes Delilah to his office. There, he fires her, as she's freaking out the customers and damaging materials. He tells Delilah that, whatever it is she's dealing with, she needs to do on her own outside of the diner.
