List of Minor Characters[]
Seth[]
Seth is Joel D'Agostino's coworker at D'Agostino's Nursey and Garden Center. As Joel is trying to leave slightly early, he looks around and sees Seth shoveling bark into the back of a delivery truck.
Wes[]
Wes is Joel's best friend. He's short with curly dark brown hair that flops over his pale face. Wes is an only child and is spoiled by his parents, something Joel wishes his parents would do with him. He tends to get whatever he wants and isn't treated harshly whenever he gets Cs and Ds in school. One day, Wes visits Zach's barn to practice for their band. Since Evan has to help his girlfriend, Wes convinces to Zach to hold off on ordering the pizza, much to Joel's disappointment. After practice, Joel complains about helping his father the next day. Wes tells Joel that he's much rather work for Steve than flipping burgers at BJ's. Joel gets into a fight with Zach and the boys leave, with Wes leaving in his jack-up truck. His truck infuriates Joel more, causing him to speed up.
Marianna[]
Marianna is one of Joel's classmates. Joel considers her the prettiest girl in his class, but is unable to get a date with her since she can tell how much of a jerk he is. Marianna lives across the street and her bedroom window looks out over the road, so Joel checks to see if she's watching him.
Mrs. Linden[]
Mrs. Linden is an old lady who visits the garden center at least once a week. Joel claims she's at least ninety years old. Mrs. Linden is said to be bony and has gray eyes. She loves to ramble about her life, including how her grown kids are doing, how she feels about her aches and pains and doctor's appointments, and what happens in her garden no matter how minuscule. Mrs. Linden also tends to repeat herself, making the rambles rather tiresome to Joel. She also complains constantly, and Steve D'Agostino always tries his best to make her happy. When asked why he puts up with her, Steve claims that she buys much more than what he gives her.
One day, Joel is mad that his father wants him to show up early the next day and kicks gravel as he's heading towards his truck. This causes a speck of dirt to land on Mrs. Linden's ancient pale blue Ford LTD. She complains to Joel that he put a divot in her fender, and Joel acts nice and explains what it actually is to appease his father. He offers to wash her car the next day, and Mrs. Linden tells Steve that Joel is nice.
Evan[]

Evan is a member of Joel's band, usually playing the guitar but sometimes playing the drums. He's tall and lanky. Evan arrives an hour late to practice to help his girlfriend. After practice, Evan leaves in his old red sports car with bug-eyed headlights. Despite barely fitting in the car, he loved it since he inherited it from his grandpa.
Lori Unger[]
