Physical Appearance[]
Julius has artful wavy blond hair that cascades down the back of his head. Shelly says his hair is “dreamy.” Julius is tall and muscular with big, long limbs and a V-shaped torso. Many find him to be attractive. His canine teeth are unusually pointed. Julius always wears expensive clothes, such as skinny black jeans, expensive basketball shoes, designer shirts, and cashmere scarves.
After his prolonged torture in his exosuit, Julius is described by Reed as a fleshy octopus-like mass of pulpy crushed limbs attached to a metal frame. His face is slack due to the bone structure of his forehead, cheeks, and jaw having been pulverized. His features are so distorted that he is said to resemble a crudely sewn cloth doll. His wavy blond hair is now sticky and stringy with congealed blood and fresh blood pools from his face, which is compared to a misshapen sponge. His mouth is sagging and his eyes have rolled back in his head, showing the murky, cloudy whites. His flesh and stylish clothing have been pierced by puncture wounds caused by cracked bones and are smeared with dried and fresh blood. His previously cream-colored scarf looped around his neck is also saturated.
Personality[]
Julius is an odd combination of jock, brain, and bully. He loves to brag about his talents and his self-righteous beliefs to everyone, and he demonstrates his intelligence through his skills at robotics, creating a fully functional exoskeleton suit. When things don’t go his way, Julius will complain and blame his problems on others. He also thrives on insults and bullying, seemingly getting euphoric when humiliating and physically hurting others.
History[]
Reed and Julius first met six years before the story takes place, and Julius quickly became a bully towards Reed. Julius called Reed "monkey face" due to his pronounced brow ridge and jutting jaw. Reed despises him because he was always complaining about something or bullying others. In freshman year of high school, Julius signs up for the same robotics class as Reed, Shelly, and Pickle.
The class is currently working on a spring semester project involving exoskeletons. For his project, Julius has managed to create a life-size exoskeleton suit that can make him stronger and faster. A few weeks before the project is due, Julius complains to the teacher that Pickle’s remote accidentally controls his suit by connecting to a specific frequency. Pickle, however, argues multiple ways for Julius to fix the problem, embarrassing him.
Today is a half day due to a teacher's conference, so when the bell rings everyone packs up and heads home. Pickle is tripped by Julius as he's heading out, which no one except Reed notices. Reed stays behind to confront Julius but is frozen in fear. Julius begins insulting Reed, asking why he's even in the class to begin with. Julius then begins to brag about his suit and puts it on to show it off, claiming that he doesn’t need to be stronger and faster, and he threatens to lock Reed in the suit to control him. However a power surge sparks the exosuit and Julius is paralyzed temporarily. Eventually he tips over and catches himself on a desk, then sits down to rest. Reed takes the opportunity to get some revenge, manually clicking in the clamps around the arms and legs to lock Julius inside, intending to leave him there for the night to teach him a lesson. Julius wakes up and yells at Reed, threatening to rip him to shreds as Reed quickly runs to the bus.
Later on in the day, Pickle’s little brother, Ory, begins to play with the remote. Julius is tortured as his exoskeleton follows the tiny robot's every move, causing numerous injuries to his body. It is worsened when Pickle removes the joints restraints on the remote, meaning that his body was contorted in impossible ways. The tiny robot moves around in a miniature replica of the house, and the exoskeleton synchronizes with its moves. When the tiny robot hits the wall of the miniature house, the exoskeleton bashes into the wall of the real house. When it climbs the wall of the small house, the exoskeleton scales the wall of the real house, and is able to break in.
When Reed is left alone in the house, he looks for the little robot, finding it hiding behind a mini house within the miniature house, but when he goes to grab it the robot stands up. From behind the model house, Julius stands up. Reed screams in horror at the sight of Julius's fleshy, mutilated body attached to the exoskeleton and the bones sticking out of it. He runs to the front door, but Julius beats him there. Reed, however, doesn’t stop running as he turns and heads upstairs, hearing Julius jump to the stairs and continue its pursuit. Reed runs into Pickle's room, as his window leads to the roof of the porch and could possibly help him escape. He grabs a microscope and swings, but Julius has climbed up on the roof and drops down on him. Reed attempts to fight back and breaks free, but Julius recovers and throws Reed onto Pickle's bed, pinning him.
Reed attempts to apologize to Julius, but stops, believing that Julius is dead and his body is only being dragged around by the exosuit. This is proven false, however, when Julius quickly covers Reed's mouth as the Girard siblings return home. Reed is rendered silent, but is given a small chance to escape when Julius's grip loosens for a bit. He breaks free but is quickly grabbed by Julius, who begins to wrap his limbs around Reed's tightly. Julius's head is pushed against Reed's throat, preventing him from calling out for help as he hears Ory ask to play with the remote some more.
Downstairs, Ory carefully maneuvers the the tiny robot out of the miniature house. He runs the little skeleton into a wall, and when he does he hears something bump on the floor above him. He looks up but doesn't hear anything else, so he continues to carefully guide it out onto the miniature porch before smashing all the buttons, causing the robot to shoot off the toy house's porch and begin popping and snapping in all kinds of unnaturally delightful ways, with Julius doing the same.
