List of Minor Characters[]
Chris Watson's Clone[]
- Not what you were looking for? See Chris (disambiguation).
Chris Watson's clone is created from the Faz-Goo absorbing Chris' body. While the original Chris dies, the clone Chris takes his place, as if nothing ever happened. Chris tells his double to take care of his family and not to hurt anyone. Dr. Little lets the goo-counterpart to Chris free to enjoy the world for the first time.
Mrs. Thomas[]
- Not what you were looking for? See Tom (disambiguation).
Mrs. Thomas is Chris's elderly neighbor. She's tiny, delicate, and birdlike with thick glasses and thin gray hair. Mrs. Thomas wears a yellow cardigan year-round. She used to be a high school English teacher for over forty years, teaching Chris's parents and other generations of the town's high school students. Mrs. Thomas been retired and widowed for many years, now living with just her cats to keep her company. She's the only person to call Chris "Christopher."
Chris's parents are amazed that Mrs. Thomas is still able to live on her own and take care of herself, but they still have Chris help her with any heavy lifting. On the nights before garbage day, Chris will come to her house, empty all the trash in the house, take all the bags to the big garbage pail in her driveway, and take it to the side of the road to be picked up the next morning. Mrs. Thomas is nice to Chris, offering him cookies whenever he comes over, although Chris declines since they're stale and cheap. When she learns Chris is going into high school, she offers to help him with English literature, but Chris declines since he's more into science and thinks she's too old to be helpful.
Josh[]
Josh is one of Chris's friends who lives next door. Over the summer, he lets his dark hair grow into waves that hang over his shoulders, which he tends to pull back behind his ears. They've been friends since they were preschoolers, and while Chris thinks Josh and Kyle are nice he doesn't want them to ruin his image at high school since they aren't as serious as him.
The day before high school starts, Josh and Kyle visit Chris's house and invite him to the Dairy Bar on their last night of freedom. Josh wins the race the three have to get there. When Chris tells them he's been thinking about the future, Josh talks about robot overlords and flying cars. After eating, they go to a lake to skip stones, mess with Canada geese, and talk about video games and internet memes. The next day, Josh tries to invite Chris to sit next to him, but gets ignored. Instead of being in Dr. Little's class, Josh takes Mrs. Harris's earth science class with Kyle. One day, Josh hears kids in the class talking about the Science Club, comparing it to a cult. The next day, Josh and Kyle show up at Chris's house to invite him to see the new Revengers movie, but Chris declines. Josh warns Chris about what he heard, but Chris gets offended. Josh tells him the kids in the Science Club are snobs.
Kyle[]
Kyle is one of Chris's friends who lives across the street. He has a purple steak dyed in his hair.
Kyle has them race there, which he always does. Kyle points out they haven't seen Chris playing Night Quest recently, and Chris tells him that he's been thinking about his future goals Kyle says that's rather heavy for summer break. After eating, they go to a lake to skip stones, mess with Canada geese, and talk about video games and internet memes. Josh and Kyle sit next to each other on the bus, and Chris ignores them. Instead of being in Dr. Little's class, Kyle takes Mrs. Harris's earth science class with Josh. When Kyle's mom agrees to drive them to the mall Friday, the two go to Chris's house to invite him to see a movie. When Kyle learns Chris is participating in the lock-in, he thinks it's sad that he's spending most of the weekend in school. He knows the Science Club thinks they're dumb, and asks if Chris is becoming a snob.
Sanjeet "San" Patel[]
Sanjeet "San" Patel is a sophomore Chris meets in Dr. Little's class. He has intense brown eyes. One the first day of school, San asks Dr. Little about the lock-in. After class, he notices Chris is new and asks if he's a freshman before introducing himself. Chris can tell San is intelligent and confident, which makes him desperate for his approval. Once learning Chris is in the Science Club, San introduces him to other members at lunch so they can look at him and see what they think. San jokes that the final exam for kids in Mrs. Harris's earth science class is to find the school cafeteria, which he finds so funny that he barely contains his laughter.
After school, Chris and San meet up in Dr. Little's class to learn more about the lock-in. He is excited for what Dr. Little has planned this year and tells Chris that he can't possibly understand how life-changing it is. San then invites Chris to join his, Malcolm, and Brooke's study group that meets at Cool Beans Coffee Wednesdays after school. When Chris arrives at the café, San tells his friends that he's doing a Caribbean cruise this year, which he thinks is fine but would much rather go somewhere else. He then asks what the group thinks this year's lock-in will result in. On the night of the lock-in, San is excited for Chris since it's his first lock-in. While eating pizza, he tells his others in his group that his mother is going to be furious since she's a dentist. When Chris lies about his family's jobs, San is impressed that both of them are engineers and assumes Chris is good at math. San is never seen again, and is presumably replaced by a Faz-Goo clone.
Malcolm[]
Malcolm is a member of the Science Club that Chris, San, and Brooke hang out with. He's tall and lanky with red hair. When Malcolm is first introduced to Chris, he reasons that Chris is reasonably intelligent since he's a freshman in one of Dr. Little's level-two classes. He mocks the students in Mrs. Harris's earth science class, saying projects like making volcanos with vinegar and baking soda is challenging, and collecting fall leaves to glue to construction paper is too hard for most of them. Later, Malcolm and Brooke suggest that Chris join their study group.
At the café, Malcolm complains that he's going to France again this winter break since his mother wants to go shopping in Paris, but he'd much rather go to Italy. After learning about what happened in last year's lock-in, Malcom assures Chris that they're perfectly safe if kids know what they're doing, and encourages the group to begin studying. On the night of the lock-in, Malcolm sounds amused to be pulling out his left back molar. He explains that his parents will be fine since they'd let him do anything if it gets him into the Ivy League. Malcolm is never seen again, and is presumably replaced by a Faz-Goo clone.
Brooke[]
- Not what you were looking for? See Brook (disambiguation).
Brooke is a member of the Science Club that Chris, San, and Malcolm hang out with. She's petite and black with springy, dark curls and a mouthful of braces. Brooke is impressed to learn Chris is a freshman in Dr. Little's class, pointing out that the freshmen who don't make the cut take Mrs. Harris's earth science class. She laughs at Malcolm and San mocking the class but doesn't join in. Later, Brooke and Malcom suggest that Chris join their study group. At the café, Brooke gets a hot mocha while Chris gets an ice mocha. Brooke then explains to Chris that a kid didn't follow the instructions of last year's lock-in and had to be sent to the emergency room to get a couple of fingers reattached.
On the night of the lock-in, Brooke explains that she's worried pulling out on of her teeth will mess up her orthodontia. She tells San that her parents won't be mad, as they'd let her do anything if it meant getting into a good college. While waiting on his experiment, Chris peaks out of his cubicle and sees Brooke approaching Dr. Little. He notices that her features seem softer and more open, and her eyes are wide with wonder. After giving Dr. Little the biohazard bag, she rests her hand on his forearm, looks him in the eyes, and says "She told me everything." She is then dismissed and smiles, having been replaced by a Faz-Goo clone.
Mrs. Harris[]
- Not what you were looking for? See Harris (disambiguation).
Mrs. Harris is the earth science teacher. Freshman who don't make it into Dr. Little's classes take hers instead. The previous year, a student participating in the lock-in cut his fingers off and needed them reattached. He is then sent to Mrs. Harris's class. San and Malcolm make fun of the people who take the class, and Chris laughs despite Josh and Kyle being a part of the class.
Jacob[]
- Not what you were looking for? See Jacob (disambiguation).
Jacob is student participating in the lock-in. He is tall with dark hair. Chris watches as Jacob, with an amazed expression, hands Dr. Little the biohazard bag, places his hand on Dr. Little's shoulder, and tells him "He told me everything." Dr. Little dismisses him and Jacob says "Thank you," which Chris describes sound as if he was given a gift. This is because, like the rest of the class, he has been replaced by a Faz-Goo clone.
