Summary[]
Aiden and Jace play in the tube maze of Freddy's Fortress and have fun breaking Happs - an animatronic that helps kids find their way out of the maze. When they get lost, they see that Happs had followed them and wants to grab them to get them out of the maze. However, Aidan and Jace broke the hands of Happs into metal shards, and Happs kills Jace as it tries to drag Jace out. Happs chases Aidan next, and he realizes he is stuck in a loop of the maze with it.
Plot[]
Aiden is a 15-year-old teen who’s been an outcast ever since he was five years old. Two months ago, he moved to a new town and auditioned for a talent show at his new school to show off his unusual abilities and knowledge with a jump rope, Hula-Hoop, juggling pins, and yo-yo. Aiden’s plan fell apart when the head of the theater department called him Aidon and he got entangled in his jump rope and yo-yo, falling down and tripping off the stage. Despite this, a kid named Jace sat with him during lunch, calling Aiden the bravest guy in school and becoming his one and only friend. One day, Aiden gets a black eye after being elbowed in the laser tag arena of Freddy Fazbear’s Mega Pizzaplex. He stumbles out into the main area, grabbing the attention of a few seniors at his school, including a girl named Nora. Jace tells Aiden to ignore the bullies, but he’s sick and tired of being treated awfully and wants some control. The two joke about fighting back next time with a Swiss Army knife Jace got for his birthday.
Jace then suggests going into Freddy’s Fortress, a massive maze of transparent climbing and sliding plastic tubes tinted a variety of colors and patterns that goes around the entire Pizzaplex. The pipes are also made of a special polymer that makes it difficult for people outside to hear. Aiden had fun scaring little kids last time and enjoys seeing Happs, short for Helpful Automated Pipe Protection Server, a maintenance and safety bot designed to prevent injuries in the maze. Jace leads Aiden around and they find a pair of little kids to scare. They succeed, but the leader of the three kids quickly calms down and calls them stupid bullies. Aiden and Jace feel guilty and crawl away, eventually finding Happs cleaning a green tube that’s abnormally bulging. Happs says hello and asks if the two are lost. Aiden tells Happs they’re fine and when Happs leaves a mirror blocks the green tube. Aiden concludes that the mirrors are for areas that need maintenance.
Aiden and Jace look for Happs, but instead find a slide which leads to a glow-in-the-dark ball pit. They then crawl through a long pipe, noticing that the offshoots leading to paths on the right are completely empty or mirrored. The duo end up going in a big circle so they decide to go to the empty section only to come across a plastic partition. Aiden tries to pull it back but it barely moves. Happs appears and asks if they’re lost. Jace tries telling him they’re fine, but Happs insists that they’re lost and tries dragging them out. Aiden pushes Happs, surprised by how lightweight he is, and when the robot still persists Aiden begins kicking Happs. Jace, also frustrated, joins him. They crack Happs’s plastic face and snap his arm joints, but then the pipe loosens and the three fall.
While Aiden and Jace turn up fine, Happs has disappeared. Clear partitions cover the area they've fallen through, and Aiden concludes the mirrors are two-way. As they explore the pipes they look down at the Pizzaplex, which makes Aiden think back to when Jace asked what his superpower would be. Aiden picked invisibility, as it would allow him to be in control. They go down a slide and begin to worry that they're trapped, since they've been in the pipes for two hours. They hear scraping and crackling static but brush it off. They return to where the pipe fell and plan to use the partition as a bridge. Jace uses his knife to weaken it so Aiden can kick it down, but they discover a two-way mirror partition blocking their way. They hear a whirring sound and Happs appears, badly damaged from the fall. His voice box is malfunctioning and his hands are broken off, now nothing more than metal shards. One of his treads is partially hanging off, but the little robot can still move rather fast.
They climb up a ladder pipe and watch Happs swipe at it, unable to climb without his hands. One of the two-way mirrored safety panels closes on him, and Aiden realizes that Happs is damaging the walls of the pipes, leaving less options for them to move around. Aiden and Jace look out the tubes to see the seniors from earlier playing on the bumper cars. They pound on the tubes to get someone's attention, but there is too much noise outside for them to be heard. The two boys decide to keep moving in case Happs catches up and hopes that someone from Fazbear Entertainment eventually rescues them. Meanwhile, Nora looks up at the pipes and feels creeped out. She questions what’s behind them, but brushes it off and returns to playing.
The two come across multiple openings and Aiden assumes Happs would also have difficulty climbing the climbing pipes. Jace assumes Happs wants revenge, but Aiden assures him that robots don't feel and can't be vindictive. Happs returns and the two quickly make their way up, but when Aiden looks back he discovers that Happs is able to climb up the hand- and footholds. They take a pipe but discover it's been closed off, and by the time they crawl back to the junction Happs pulls himself up. Behind him, a security mirror closes off the climbing pipe. Happs reaches for Aiden, but Jace stabs him with his knife. Aiden scissor-kicks Happs into a wall and the duo attack him until they knock him over. Aiden deduces that they need to pull out his circuitry to shut him off, but Happs slashes Aiden's cheek and gets back up. The two enter another pipe and reach a slide that leads them to a ball pit.
They try to get to a pipe but Happs makes it down fast. He has no difficulty getting through the ball pit and reaches Jace, who dives into the pit to hide, but his feet stick out and Happs tries to grab them. He ends up slicing through his ankle, amputating his right foot. Jace screams in pain as Aiden tries to pull him out and Happs slashes Jace's shoulder during the struggle. Aiden pulls Jace into the nearest pipe, but Happs catches up and tries grabbing Jace, piercing his sides. Happs thrashes forward and blood pours from Jace's mouth as he dies in Aiden's arms. Aiden lets go of Jace's body and crawls away with tears in his eyes. More pipes are closed off, but Aiden is able to reach a ladder pipe. Happs looks up at Aiden before retreating. Not wanting to return to Jace's body, Aiden pushes forward. Happs returns and chases Aiden to a sloping pipe with a ball pit, and Aiden waits for Happs to hit the pit before continuing to flee. The two offshoots he tries to enter are closed off, and Aiden realizes he's trapped in a loop with Happs. Aiden looks through the pipe's walls and realizes he's gotten his wish to be invisible.
Trivia[]
- Happs becoming broken in the story, is similiar to how Glamrock Chica, Montgomery Gator, and Roxanne Wolf become their shattered variants due to Gregory's actions in Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach.
- Aiden's fate is similar to what happened to Dirk in Felix the Shark, being stuck in a looping tube while having to run from an animatronic.
