“Tales of heroes. Have you read much mythology?” |
Gabrielle is a girl Oswald meets on the first day of school in Into the Pit. She also appears in the game and the interative novel adaptations.
Physical Appearance[]
In the original short story, Gabrielle is described as having curly black hair and big, brown eyes.
In the graphic novel, she has light skin, shoulder-length hair, a blue tank top, pink pants, and black flats. In the videogame adaptation, she is of African descent, with dark skin, bushy hair, a turquoise blouse with matching shoes, and a blue skirt.
Personality[]
Gabrielle is a shy but friendly girl who is the first new student in Oswald's town in a long time. Her main trait is that she loves to read Greek mythology and other tales of heroes, with a specific Greek myth book being a comfort book for her to read when she needs to be brave. She says that seeing heroes battle monsters can put her relatively minor problems into perspective.
The game shows her as generous, giving Oswald her uncle's notebook due to his interest in art. Return to the Pit also has her as determined to help her father take down the Yellow Rabbit, and the only person who believes Oswald when he says he sees the creature.
History[]
Gabrielle serves similar but distinct roles in each adaptation of Into the Pit. In each version, she is a new student at Westbrook Middle School. She moved to town three days before the start of the school year. While nervous about being the new student, she finds solace in her favorite books of Greek Mythology.
Fazbear Frights[]
In Fazbear Frights, "Into the Pit," Gabrielle asks to sit next to Oswald during recess as she reads her book. After a few minutes, she starts a conversation, asking how long he's gone to the school. Oswald answers and asks about her book, which Gabrielle explains is about Greek mythology. She tells him it's a comfort book for her, as the Greek heroes are brave and always doing battle with big monsters, which inspires her to be brave. Upon learning that she's new in town, Oswald introduces himself and shakes her hand. Their conversation about bravery later gives Oswald the strength to fight back against Spring Bonnie.
Five Nights at Freddy's: Into the Pit[]
In the video game adaptation of the short story, Gabrielle is first seen outside the school on Day Two, being bullied by Dylan Cooper and his friends for being nerdy. When they leave, Oswald assures her that they're just jealous that she knows how to read. They have a short conversation about her being new in town and reading Greek mythology to make herself braver. When Oswald mentions being an artist, she gives him her uncle's old sketchbook that her grandfather found while cleaning out junk. The sketchbook features drawings and notes on the animatronics from Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, giving Oswald vital information he needs for later levels.
In a rare scene, Oswald can see Gabrielle exiting the library. She then remarks that his dad is here to take him home, and the Yellow Rabbit appears and drags Oswald back to the house, kickstarting a Night segment.
Five Nights at Freddy's: Return to the Pit[]
In the "canon" route of Return to the Pit, Gabrielle serves the same purpose she does in the original short story, with the distinction that she can tell Oswald either about Hercules or Theseus.
In another route, it is revealed that Gabrielle is the daughter of Chip, Oswald's friend from his travels to 1985. If Oswald leaves with Chip, he meets Gabrielle and several other adults at a distant farmhouse, where she had just moved with her father in order to hunt the Yellow Rabbit. She is aware of her father's mission, and excited to help. Oswald can then tell her when he spots the Yellow Rabbit masquerading as the team's leader, and while she can't see it, she believes him. Two routes occur from that point: if Oswald and her attack the rabbit, it mauls and kills them both. If they wait and see what it does, she remains in the car while the rest of the team goes into Jeff's Pizzeria.
Trivia[]
- Gabrielle's ethnicity varies between adaptations, as it is unspecified in the original book; the graphic novel depicts her as light-skinned, and Return to the Pit posits her as Chip's daughter, a boy who is usually blonde and always portrayed as White. The game depicts her as Black.
