Plot[]

12-year-old Tony Becker is fascinated with the real world and its mysteries. He began pretending to be a reporter in second grade, and when his parents bought him a digital camera a year later, he wandered all over his neighborhood and found things to make stories out of. One day, Tony wrote a story about his neighbor getting channels without cable, which resulted in men in suits visiting the neighbor and his dad getting his tires slashed. His parents warned him of the dangers of investigative journalism, but Tony still preferred reality over fiction. Just two years prior, his father was accused of embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars. He was sentenced to twenty years and a large fine, and when Tony offered to look into the real culprit his father said it wasn’t worth it.

For the past year, Tony and his mother have had to live with his grandmother. His mother got a job as an administrative assistant while Tony earned money helping out his elderly and retired neighbors. Tony has kept his promise to his father, and it’s given Tony an even bigger determination to solve other mysteries. He joins a creative writing class in hopes of improving his nonfiction writing skills, however for the past few months since the school year started they’ve mainly focused on fiction. One day, the class is tasked with writing a story that focuses on a mystery while wrapping it in seemingly unrelated subplots that are actually essential. As always, Tony teams up with his two friends. They’ve already chosen their pen names, Boots and Dr. Rabbit (Rab for short), and Tony bases his on the famous Ida Tarbell.

Since it’s Friday, the three go to Freddy Fazbear’s Mega Pizzaplex to play at the Fazcade. They play Bon-Bon Funball, Chica’s Feeding Frenzy, and the arcade version of Monty’s Gator Golf before Tony leaves his friends as they play Puppet’s Basketball. He wanders the arcade, reflecting on how difficult life can be, before watching an intense competition between two sophomore girls at pinball machines. He notices that someone named GGY has outscored everyone else by millions of points on both machines. He investigates more, discovering that every game GGY has played has them significantly above everyone else. Tony decides to base their story off this mystery, only changing a few bits to match the fiction requirement. He returns to the two girls, KXT and CRF, but neither of them know or care about GGY. They instead instruct him to seek out Axel Brandon Campbell, aka ABC.

Tony returns to the Mega Pizzaplex on Sunday and finds Axel playing The Bunbarians. He informs him that KXT and CRF, who Axel identifies as Kenzie and Crystal, sent him his way to ask about GGY. Axel doesn’t know who GGY is, and has learned that no one else knows them either. Tony then accidentally bumps into an employee named Finbarr. The two bond over their shared interests while Finbarr stops a girl from damaging a Fruity Maze game. Finbarr informs Tony that diagnostics have been done on the machines with GGY’s scores and no traces of a hack could be found. He also says only Security Badges would allow someone to enter the building late and into employee-only areas. Tony then overhears two older kids discussing GGY. He tells them about what he just learned, and one of them mentions talking about it online. As Tony’s leaving, he catches Glamrock Freddy intensely staring at him.

Tony decides to ask online about GGY. He doesn’t get any helpful responses until Thursday night, when someone named Morrigan99 messages him that she’ll tell him more tomorrow. In the meantime, Tony’s noticed that some employees don’t properly log out of their employee kiosks, and he plans to use his knowledge from a previous writing assignment to steal an employee’s key card. The next day, he successfully steals one by acting injured and manages to find a kiosk while everyone is distracted by a concert in the lobby. He eventually finds GGY on a list of issued Pizzaplex Play Passes, discovering that it’s been modified to act as a Security Badge, and GGY has used it to get three people into the Pizzaplex after closing. Tony can only make out small parts of their names: Mary, Rae-something, and Tre-something. As Tony returns to Boots and Rab, Glamrock Freddy follows him.

Later that night, Morrigan99 asks Tony what he knows. Tony decides to tell the truth, and Morrigan tells him to meet her under the south bleachers at the high school. There, Morrigan99 is revealed to be Crystal, and she thinks Tony is getting involved in something dangerous. She explains that her hobby is hacking, and when she looked into the animatronic’s code in order to learn how their behavior works, she saw new lines of code that created additional conversations and behaviors. They had left their signature as a bunch of G's and Y's, which she believes is GGY. Tony tells Crystal about the strange behavior from Glamrock Freddy, and the two go their separate ways.

Tony begins writing their story for class on Sunday. Boots and Rab have decided to simply look over the story before it’s done and give feedback. By Wednesday evening, Tony finishes the story. In it, he discusses how GGY has altered the animatronic’s code so they act normal most of the time while being turned into GGY’s minions in secret. Now finished, he allows himself to listen in on a news report about Mary Schneider, a counselor at Tony’s school who disappeared five months ago. The next day, Boots and Rab are given a copy of the story. The two say they’ll look over and work on it while Tony helps out a neighbor with his man cave. While painting, Tony remembers that Mary was one of the names GGY helped get into the Pizzaplex.

Later that night, Tony sneaks into school by wiggling loose cracked limestone in the school’s foundation, a tactic that he and his friends found before and used as inspiration for a story. He makes his way to the library to access Mrs. Hawkins’s laptop, which he knows the password to since they’ve worked together numerous times. He finds that Mary started three years ago, around the time the Pizzaplex opened, and was replaced by Raelynn Lawrence. Raelynn worked for a month before disappearing as well, and was replaced by Treena Welch, who disappeared seven weeks later. The current counselor is Georgia Lowe, who just started a month ago. Tony realizes that the names matched up with the names on GGY's card.

Tony concludes that once each counselor realized the malicious activities GGY was doing at the Pizzaplex, they would lure them to the Pizzaplex and cause them to disappear. He hears noises and decides to leave. The next day, Tony tries to tell Boots about what he found, but Boots reveals that Rab has rewritten the story to make GGY a wizard’s favorite apprentice who helps him fight a corporate conspiracy that reached their planet. It’s too late to change it and Tony has no choice but to turn it in, and he refuses to call Ellis by his pen name ever again. After class, Tony is called into the principal’s office where the principal claims Tony was caught on camera. Tony knows that’s false and it confirms his suspicions that someone else was in there with him.

Tony is given detention in the library, although Mrs. Hawkins isn’t upset at Tony and assumes it was just for research. While Tony is reshelving books he’s approached by Rab. He apologizes, claiming he was just trying to make the story more entertaining, but Tony is too mad to care and goes back to calling him by his real name: Greg. Greg cocks his head and studies Tony a bit before walking off, but he stops and asks Tony to meet him at the Pizzaplex later, saying he has some people he wants him to meet. Tony is reluctant knowing that the animatronics were tampered with by GGY. Greg insists, saying "We’ll get you cheered up."

Speculation[]

"I was the first! I have seen everything!"

This section archives a lot of theories and speculation, which usually occurs from pre-release media, or just things that are still unknown, so please keep that in mind while reading. The page will continue to be updated with the most accurate information as more solid evidence is supplied.

SBLeaderboard

One of the leaderboards in Security Breach. Note "GGY" at the top and "ABC" in fourth.

  • Many details tie the story to the events in Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach.
    • In Security Breach, all the arcade machines have "GGY" on the top of the leaderboard, just like in the story.
      • One of the players Tony meets is Axel Brandon Campbell, whose score on the leaderboard is "ABC". Some of the leaderboards in the game also show "ABC".
    • Greg has dark brown hair[1] and brown eyes[2], just like Gregory in Security Breach. "Greg" can also be short for "Gregory", especially implied by the username "GGY".
    • The disappearance of 3 school counselors in the story is similar to the disappearance of 4 therapists in Security Breach. It is possible that the therapists worked as school counselors as their part time jobs, as one of the therapists say that she works in schools alongside being a therapist.[3]
  • Greg rewrites Tony's story to be about a kid named GGY who was "the wizard's most favored apprentice", and changes the story to be about "an animatronic supervillain who went into battle with a tentacled monster". This may be an allusion to the fight between Burntrap (the wizard) and the Tangle (a tentacled monster) at the end of Security Breach. GGY being the wizard's apprentice suggests that Gregory might have been under Afton or the Mimic's control.
  • The story takes place "a couple years" after the Mega Pizzaplex opens.[4]
    • It can be deduced to be less than four years. The story states that the Pizzaplex opened after Mary Schneider was hired. Mary worked for three years, and the therapists after her were all replaced in less than a year.
