List of Minor Characters[]
Mrs. Sterling[]
Mrs. Sterling is Edward's eight-grade science teacher. She's middle-aged with a round face and a wide smile. One day, Mrs. Sterling tells the class about unstoppable force/immovable objects, and when Edward asks multiple questions on it she assigns a paper on the subject. She then asks Edward to grab the iron filings from the cabinet since he's the closest to it, and has him sprinkle them on a magnet while she writes something on the board. When Mrs. Sterling turns on a fan, however, it is revealed that Edward had accidently grabbed pepper from the surface tension experiment a couple days before. Mrs. Sterling accidently knocks over the fan and orders everyone out of the room, her voice stern yet a smile still on her face.
Julia[]

Julia is one of the most popular girls in Edward's class. She has pretty bright blue eyes and wavy black hair. Edward has a crush on Julia, but when he told Jack this he laughed. One day, she tells Edward and Jack that they're both weird. Julia then complains that the class has to write papers on why it's impossible for an unstoppable force to exist in the same universe as an immovable object. Jack tries explaining it to her, but she yells at him to shut up and turns back.
Don[]

Don is the bus driver. He's a big, semi-retired man with curly gray hair. He tells Edward to have a good day and Edward waves at him. After seeing Jack's face peeking out from behind the bus's back fender, he tells Don that he's walking home instead.
Mrs. Phillips[]
Mrs. Philips is a widow whose house Edward and Jack are dropped off at by the bus. She has tan skin with a lined face and long gray hair. Mrs. Philips has a flower bed at the edge of her yard with a big rhododendron shrub guarding the seasonal planting. During the winter, she will handknit sweaters for her collection of winter-clad gnomes to wear. Sometime in January, Edward and Jack find a stray cat hiding in Mrs. Philips' flower bed and behind a gnome wearing a ski cap. Starting in September, Mrs. Philips puts baseball caps on the gnomes until the World Series is over.
When Edward is getting stalked by the Friendly Face, he spots it under a low-hanging rhododendron branch and asks what it wants. Mrs. Philips answers, saying she wants a "magical weed disappearer." He finds her pulling weeds from the edge of her walkway, wearing a bright fuchsia running suit and purple tennis shoes. Edward explains his outburst as him practicing for a school play, and Mrs. Philips wishes him good luck on it.
Eddy[]

Eddy is one of Edward's classmates. Edward finds him to be particularly obnoxious, and one day Eddy deliberately bumps into Edward while getting on the bus.
