The Halloween Edition, fully known as Five Nights at Freddy's 4: Halloween Edition, is a free Halloween-themed content add-on for Five Nights at Freddy's 4 that was added as an optional launch choice on October 30, 2015, before the next day on Halloween, which updated the game to v1.1.
This edition is not included in any of the mobile or console ports.

After updating or installing Five Nights at Freddy's 4 and launched, the player will be met with two launch options: one for the standard FNaF 4 game and one for Halloween Edition.
Halloween Edition[]
The text that appears on the title screen when on the Halloween Edition.
This version contains the addition of cheats, challenges, and a new minigame. Almost all of the original characters are replaced or reskinned to be Halloween-themed.
With the exception of Nightmare Freddy and Nightmare Fredbear, all of the nightmare animatronics are replaced:
- Jack-O-Bonnie - A Jack-o'-lantern-themed version of Nightmare Bonnie and a replacement for his original counterpart.
- Jack-O-Chica - A Jack-o'-lantern-themed version of Nightmare Chica and a replacement for her original counterpart.
- Nightmare Mangle - A nightmare counterpart of Mangle and a replacement for Nightmare Foxy.
- Nightmarionne - A nightmare counterpart of the Puppet and a replacement for Nightmare.
- Nightmare Balloon Boy - A nightmare counterpart of Balloon Boy and a replacement for Plushtrap from the "Fun with Balloon Boy" minigame that is played in between each night in Halloween Edition or via the extras menu from both standard and Halloween editions.
The end-of-night minigames are decorated with Halloween props, like Jack-o'-lanterns, hanging bats, and cobwebs. Furthermore, some standard colors for the environments are altered in Halloween-style, such as orange and black.
Development[]
While it is unknown when production began, it's fair to assume that it started the following October from when FNaF 4 released, as on October 15, 2015, the first teaser for the Halloween Edition was revealed on Scottgames.com, featuring the jaw-less head of Jack-O-Bonnie. The teaser's file name is "inthedark."
Following this, a new teaser would be uploaded every 3 days. On October 20, 2015, Scott published the second teaser featuring Nightmare Balloon Boy. When brightened, it has dark red text, saying "HELLO?." The teaser's file name, just like the first, is "inthedark." Scott also made a Steam post announcing that the update would be turned into a standalone non-canon Halloween-themed version of FNaF 4, called "Halloween Edition."[1]
On October 23, 2015, Scott uploaded a third teaser, showing an image of the Freddy plush cloaked in darkness. If the image is brightened, it will reveal Nightmarionne behind the bed. The teaser's file name is "dontwakethebaby."
On October 26, 2015, Scott uploaded a fourth teaser, which shows a pitch-black image with bloody orange font text reading "COME HANG OUT." Brightening up this image will reveal Nightmare Mangle. The teaser's file name is "gotopieces."
On October 29, 2015, Scott uploaded a fifth and final teaser for the Halloween update, which shows a still-frame of Jack-O-Chica's jumpscare in the right hall. Furthermore, the same styled font text reads "SEE YOU SOON." The teaser's file name is "BOO."
The update was eventually released on the night of October 30, 2015, a day off from the original release.

- Prior to the update's launch, Scott stated that the Halloween Edition would have been available separately at Game Jolt if the two release choices were not functioning correctly.[2]
- The edition's Game Jolt page was, in fact, available once and expected to come out on October 20th for free, but only for a limited time. Upon its discovery, Scott quickly made it unlisted, and it remains accessible only via the link with the launch success of the update's release options.[3]
- At an unknown date, Scott Cawthon unprivated the link and made it unlisted, making Halloween Edition fully available, for free, for anyone. The reasoning behind the decision to make the page unlisted on Game Jolt is unknown at this moment.

- Before the update's release, one of the fans in the Steam discussion board requested to add a nightmarish counterpart of Toy Freddy, along with the other toy animatronics, but Scott himself denied it.[4]

- The file name for the third teaser image, "dontwakethebaby", is likely a nod to Markiplier. During his Five Nights at Freddy's 2 gameplay, he called the Puppet "baby" and usually said "Don't wake the baby" for "Don't let the Puppet out of the music box."
