John has a nightmare of Charlie's death again. He wakes up and sees one of Charlie's toys, Theodore. At this point in time, Charlie is back alive and hanging out with her friends as usual, but John knows that she isn't the real Charlie. For being late to his job, he gets fired. He then went to a party with his friends and he asked Charlie some questions. Some were answered right, but some were answered with "I don't remember." Officer Clay and John plan to meet up to discuss Charlie's behavior since she refused to get her old doll Ella from the house wreckage. Theodore, in a horrible and broken state, says "Shining Reef, Silver Star". He drives to Clay's house to tell him about the message, and passes by a new restaurant, Circus Baby's Pizza. Near Clay's house, he sees a female clown animatronic pass by. As soon as he got there, Clay was half dead. On the floor was the Ella doll and some sort of brain-scrambling device. He puts it on and Ella now looks like a toddler. He takes Ella with him to the hospital, and John tells Jessica about Theodore's message. Jessica tells him that Shining Reef is a town near Hurricane. The doctor says Clay will be okay, and Charlie seems disappointed by it. John and Jessica drive to the town Shining Reef and sees a house with a shining star on it. Inside is Aunt Jen asking if they know about Charlie. Charlie arrives asking Aunt Jen to come into the next room with her alone. Meanwhile, John and Jessica goes upstairs and finds another Charlie inside a chest, unconscious but more like the original Charlie. Aunt Jen screams downstairs and is seen dead with Charlie holding a knife. John and Jessica drive away with the other Charlie. At John's apartment, they hide the other Charlie. Charlie arrives trying to find the other Charlie. Charlie leaves empty-handed, and John and Jessica call Marla and Carlton about everything. They start making a plan. Jessica remembers how Charlie had a device that made animatronics see you when worn, and perhaps tampering with it would make one invisible to them. The other Charlie starts talking and turns into her true form, Circus Baby. She picks John up, attempting to kiss him. Her faceplates open to reveal saw blades. He puts on the tampered device and becomes invisible to Circus Baby. She drops him and walks away. Jessica follows Baby to investigate her, but she is captured by her and brought to Circus Baby's Pizza. She forces Jessica to perform surgery on a dying William Afton who has escaped the Spring Bonnie suit. Jessica completes the surgery, and is locked in a room with four missing children. The unconscious Charlie wakes up and is told everything. She decides to go to Aunt Jen's house with John. They find a letter from Henry to Aunt Jen. Circus Baby follows them, and threatens to kill John if Charlie doesn't listen to her. Meanwhile, Carlton and Marla drive to Circus Baby's Pizza World because they recognize the mascot, Circus Baby as the fake Charlie. They are chased by Funtime Freddy in a mirror maze, but manage to escape. They unlock the room Jessica and the missing children are in, but not before Funtime Foxy takes two of them. Jessica uses Charlie's device to make Funtime Foxy fall into a ball pit, and they leave with the 3 children. Carlton is once again chased by Funtime Freddy, but he destroys him with a merry-go-round. He hears the voice of Michael and follows it to William Afton. An amalgamation of all the original animatronics are placed on a desk, still containing the original children's spirits. William Afton then injects Carlton with a strange liquid that made him pass out. He wakes up with a ghost of Michael next to him trying to find pieces of his coloring sheet. He needs to put the pieces back together. He sees three children named Fritz, Susie, and Cassidy. Susie remembers how Spring Bonnie helped her find her dog. The coloring page is put together and Carlton wakes up to see William Afton attacked by mangled Funtime Freddy and Funtime Foxy. William Afton dies, and Carlton is brought outside and lives. At Aunt Jen's house, Charlie and Circus Baby come face to face. Baby expresses how Charlie was always the favorite child, and how her father always liked Charlie more than her. She says she used to be a little girl, then tells Charlie that she never had the actual soul of the original Charlie. Baby explains how each closet holds a different stage of Charlie's life. She said she, as the workshop endoskeleton, saw Henry cry into Ella, the original Charlotte's plush toy, and that Henry realised that "she needed to grow up." This prompted Henry to create a small doll, also named Ella, who took on the role of Charlie as a toddler, the second closet was her as a kid, and the third closet is her current self as a teenager. Baby claims that she herself is the one from the fourth closet, however, there are some holes in her story, such as when she Claims Henry built them in order, but that she was actually created before the rest to see this actually happen. Baby claims to Charlie that Henry said Baby was a mistake. Elizabeth holds the memories of Baby, herself, and the workshop endoskeleton. Charlie remembers her dad's suicide animatronic in her aunt's closet. Charlie sneakily activates it and it stabs both herself, the Ella plush, and Elizabeth. John breaks in a few seconds after yelling at Charlie to come back, but Charlie dies, attempting to say "I love you," with John seeing an inhuman face when looking at Charlie's body, prompting John to feel sick. The book closes with John at a graveyard. He walks to a woman who looks like an older Charlie waiting for him, presumably the real Fourth Charlie that the Third Charlie freed at the end of The Twisted Ones. |
