Development[]

Development for the game started sometime in late-2019 to early-2020.[7] Years later, Scholastic Corp. would accidentally leak the project on January 23, 2024;[8] later that day, a website and trailer were discovered, which would be set to private shortly after. Scott would address the leak on Reddit, saying that he is ok with the leak getting out as the title has been in development for a long time and is proud of the final product, adding that it will be a 10th anniversary game.[9] Two days later, Mega Cat would announce on X/Twitter that they are indeed the developers for the game.[10] A few months later, on April 1, Mega Cat would jokingly change their social media accounts pizzeria-themed and would post a video saying they would change their company to a pizza business. At some point during the video, a screenshot of Oswald in the entrance with Jess would flash on screen.[11] The first official trailer for the game would be uploaded to YouTube on June 6,[12] along with a website and sub-page on Mega Cat's website.

Soon after Jeff's Pizza website being revealed, Mega Cat would close it for maintenance and was planned to officially launch on June 12. Upon reaching that date, the website would become overwhelmed with traffic and would be indefinably delayed. As of November 2024, the website is still closed. On August 7, 2024, the game would accidentally be released in Japan regions for Nintendo Switch. Following this mistake, Scottgames would release the game later that day instead of the planned August 8 release.[13] The games public beta branch would then be opened the next day and updated to version 1.0.1.0. The next day, the beta branch would once again be updated to version 1.0.2.0 and later 1.0.3.0. On September 13, 2024, Mega Cat would announce that Into the Pit would release on console later that month, on September 27. The PlayStation and Xbox ports would then release, but due to issues, the Nintendo Switch port didn't launch on the Nintendo eShop. The following month, the Switch port would be set for a October 31, 2024 release, to which it would release.

The next year, iam8bit would upload a video to YouTube on January 6, 2025, announcing the pre-orders for the physical release along with an iam8bit Exclusive Edition, which holds a glow-in-the-dark fold-out poster, 3 spine-tingling sticker sheets, a download code for the game, and the game's official soundtrack, all of which have worldwide compatibility. The physical release plans to ship on June 20, 2025.

Trivia[]
