Emil Macko revealed a teaser for Five Nights at Candy's 4 in a video he uploaded on April 1, 2018, named "Where is FNAC 4?" with a teaser image for the title being shown at the end.[2]

A few months later, on June 11, 2018, Emil would post a puzzle to the Five Nights at Freddy's Reddit community with the title "find the keys." When the puzzle was completed, it would have sent the user to an then unlisted video on Emil's channel named "transmission," fully confirming that Five Nights at Candy's 4 is in the works, despite Emil saying that Five Nights at Candy's 3 would have been the final title in the series.[3]

Later, on August 31, 2018, Emil made another post to Reddit, properly announcing the title. Additionally, Emil revealed that the game is being made in Clickteam Fusion, that all the 3D renders are made using Cycles, a physically based production renderer developed by the Blender project, and that the title is complex to design. Further down the post, Emil revealed that the title has been in the works since December 2017 - January 2018, and at the end of the post, he shared a teaser of "Forgotten" Candy.[4]

On the 4th anniversary of Emil's creation of Candy the Cat, November 22, 2018, he states that he hopes that Five Nights at Candy's 4 is the best of the series, and he attached a photo of two halves of Candy and Forgotten Candy fused together.[5]

Almost a month later, on December 15, 2018, Emil gave a quick update on FNaC 4, saying that the development has been slow for a month and a half due to life being a mixed bag. He also went on to say that the game isn't canceled and that he has zero idea when the title will be complete.[6]

A few months later, on February 8, 2019, Emil hosted a stream on YouTube where he played a bunch of that year's "Fangames at Freddit's" Game Jam. Near the end of the stream, Emil teased Five Nights at Candy's 4 with a bit of looking around an unknown room.[7]

Almost 2 months later, on April 3, 2019, Emil made another post to Reddit giving an update to the title. He doesn't want to rush the title, and he says that the trailer theme gives him chills every time he hears it. He also stated near the end of the post that he wants Candy to be in the spotlight this time around.[8]

On Candy the Cat's 5th anniversary, November 22, 2019, Emil once again posted to Reddit with a quick update on FNaC 4. He started off by saying that the production on the title has been on a long pause because of other things he's been working on. Further into the post, Emil says he's still willing to complete the game. He also revealed a few new things: that he wants Candy to be in the spotlight, that there will be minigames, and that the title has nothing to do with Mary Schmidt, as her story ended in Five Nights at Candy's 3, but instead Emil wants to focus on the relatively hidden background story of the storyline, Rowboatics Corp. At the end of the post, Emil linked a teaser using the words "don't forget".[9]

Emil made another post on Reddit on May 27, 2020, giving an update for FNaC 4. Emil answered a common question: "Is FNAC 4 really dead? Emil answered no. Emil gave two reasons why the title hasn't been released yet: the first is because he is insanely passionate about making the title as perfect as he can, and the second is that he is only one person with a life, with an example of studying for university, among other things. At the end of the post, Emil revealed that he made a Game Jolt page for FNaC 4 to help fans keep up-to-date with the title moving forward.[10]

A couple months later, Emil made an update post on Game Jolt regarding characters in FNaC 4. Emil revealed that FNaC 4 will have the largest cast of characters in the whole series. A little further down, Emil also revealed that some of those characters are brand new animatronics of the series. He also says that there will be an entirely new protagonist in FNaC 4 since "the Mary Schmidt saga" is over. Further down the post, he states that with FNaC 4, the numbers of new characters in a single release will put the other titles to shame. At the end of the post, Emil said that the game's seen a lot of progress during the summer.[11]

On August 21, 2020, Scott Cawthon revealed The Fazbear Fanverse Initiative, which revealed Emil would be part of making Five Nights at Candy's 4.[12]

A day later, on August 22, 2020, Emil made a post on Game Jolt talking about what it means for the Five Nights at Candy's series to be a part of the Fazbear Fanverse. He states that all the FNaC games and FNaC 4 will be ported to consoles and mobiles; he also added that was going to release Five Nights at Candy's 4 for free on Game Jolt. At the end of the post, he revealed that there is a new teaser on the game page.[13][14]

On the 6th anniversary of Five Nights at Candy's, July 18, 2021, Emil made a Game Jolt update post. Emil stated that there have been a ton of separate difficulties that have impacted him and his workflow. Due to his university adapting to the work-from-home format, project work and studying have become a lot tougher for him. At the end of the post, he reassures readers that FNaC 4 is still happening and that he's working hard on the updated versions of FNaCR, FNaC 2, and FNaC 3.[15]

Emil made another Game Jolt update post on February 2, 2022. Emil states that he's been making a lot of progress that he's happy with for both FNaC 4 and the FNaC trilogy updates. Though, when looking at the post, random letters are bolded, when put together, it says, "dont forget".[16]

Emil premiered a trailer for FNaC 4 on April 1, 2022, which quickly turned into a drawn concept trailer and was later revealed to be FNAC FUR.[17]

On March 2, 2025, Emil shared an update post on Game Jolt about both himself and the Five Nights at Candy's series. In it, he announced FNaC 4, along with the other 3 games, would be recoded from the ground up in the GameMaker engine to make the definitive versions of the games. With this announcement, FNaC 4 was given its first official logo.[18]
