Teaser trailer's final line, Five Nights at Candy's Teaser Trailer

Five Nights at Candy's, commonly abbreviated as FNaC, is a indie point-and-click survival horror video game developed and published by Emil Macko and is the first installment of the Five Nights at Candy's series. The game was released on July 18, 2015, on Game Jolt.

Five Nights at Candy's Remastered, commonly abbreviated as FNaC R, is a indie point-and-click surivial horror video game developed and published by Emil Macko and is a remaster of the oringial 2015 Five Nights at Candy's. The game was released on August 14, 2019. The remaster gave the original game a fresh coat of paint, giving it new models, renders, secrets, and more in celebration of the series' 4th anniversary.

On August 21, 2020, Five Nights at Candy's Remastered was added to Scott Cawthon's Fazbear Fanverse Initiative, making it a official spin-off of the Five Nights at Freddy's series. The title is planned to be published on Steam by Clickteam LLC for an unknown price and it will receive substantial updates, gameplay rebalancing, and quality-of-life improvements by Emil.

Summary[]

No company is without a rival.

Freddy Fazbear's New Pizzeria has closed for good. And so, another restaurant is going to take its place in the world of entertainment.

What could go wrong?

Gameplay[]

The gameplay of Five Nights at Candy's is very similar to that of the original Five Nights at Freddy's, with similar mechanics like doors, cameras, and a battery meter appearing. The entire restaurant (other than The Office) is dark at night, meaning that the player will be unable to see anything on their cameras without the use of night vision. The player can activate night vision by double-clicking on any camera, but this uses up more battery than normal.

There are two doors to the player's left and right in which the animatronics can get in. The player will be able to see who is at their door by viewing the Entrance Hall and/or Backstage 2 cameras. Using the doors drains power, and the longer a door is closed, the more power it uses.

There is also a third door at the front of the player's office in the form of a window, which is reserved for Blank. Similar to Foxy from the first game, Blank stays in the Drawing Room and as soon as he's gone, the player will need to shut the window door. Failure to do so will result in Blank smashing the window and ending the player's game.

The player must survive from 12AM until 6AM to win.

The contents of this article or section are from projects not a part of the Fazbear Fanverse initiative. This includes pre-rebooted versions of the games, cancelled projects, etc. Anything related to such is considered unofficial to the initiative. However, our sister wiki (Five Nights at Candy's wiki) has already covered them.

Development for Five Nights at Candy's started in late-April to early-May 2015. Emil would share a teaser of Candy the Cat on Tumblr with the text "SOON" on May 30, 2015. When the teaser is brightened, a binary code of "01000110 01001110 01000001 01000011" is displayed; when decoded, it says, "FNAC."[1] Later that same day, a teaser of Cindy the Cat would be posted to Tumblr with the text "We play in the dark."[2] An Game Jolt page would also go live.[3] The next day, Emil would share a screenshot of a work-in-progress version of the games office with two glowing eyes looking in from the right door.[4] Over a week later, on June 11, Emil would share another teaser, this time of Old Candy, with the text "I SEE YOU." When brightened, hidden text is revealed saying, "CAM 12."[5] Close to a week later, on June 17, a teaser of The Penguin would be posted with the text "OUT OF SERVICE."[6] On June 23, a teaser of Blank the Animatronic was posted with the text "THE BROKEN." When brightened, the number 2 is revealed between "THE" and "BROKEN."[7] The next month, on July 3, the teaser trailer would be uploaded to Emil Macko's YouTube channel.[8]

A few days later, on July 9, Emil would make an update post on Game Jolt to answer questions, give an update on the game, and to share a now-delisted link for the IndieDB page for Five Nights at Candy's. In the Game Jolt post, Emil would state the game was in its first playable state, but it still needs to be refined to make sure the game is challenging but doable.[9] Over a week later, July 18, Emil made another update post on Game Jolt announcing the release date, which was short from 3 hours after the post's publication. He also stated that he doesn't plan to make a second, third, or fourth title and that he'll continue to update Five Nights at Candy's if necessary.[10] Along with the post, he uploaded one last teaser, of which was of half of Vinnie's head, with the text "mistakes happen." Brightening the teaser will reveal half of RAT's head in bright red. Later that day, the game would release on Game Jolt and get updated to version 1.0.1.[11]

Following the release of the game, Emil would update it to version 1.0.2.[12] On July 20, version 1.0.3.[13] On July 21, version 1.1.0.[14] And on September 11, version 1.2.0.[15] On September 24, Emil would make a post on Game Jolt to talk about the future of the game, saying it took him three months to make the game and that he struggled designing it. He added that he recently thought of new mechanics that he liked, saying that a Five Nights at Candy's 2 is happening, but with still a chance of it getting canceled, but it would only get canceled if the mechanics didn't work together.[16]

Development on Five Nights at Candy's Remastered began a few weeks before the fourth anniversary of the series. The remaster would be hinted at on July 13, 2019, by Emil saying, "A special day is coming up soon. Remember?"[17] On the anniversary day, Emil made a post saying "Soon."[18] A little over half an hour later, the remaster would be revealed along with a Game Jolt page and a dev log. In the dev log, Emil stated the remaster was originally planned to release on July 18, but was delayed due to issues that cropped up.[19] A day later, July 19, the game was once again delayed due to the cameras night vision having issues.[20] On the 22, the title would be once again delayed due to overestimating his ability to keep the same working pace, having issues with Clickteam Fusion 2.5, reanimating the games' jumpscares, and wanting the remaster to be fairly balanced.[21]

The next day, it was once again delayed due to coding issues.[22] On July 24, Emil would say the title would release that night;[23] later, he would make a post to reassure fans that it was that night;[24] and finally, a post saying that fans and friends talked him into giving it another day 'til release.[25] The next day, he said he was going to start taking it slow, saying he was working on the game for 1 and a half weeks and had woken up to work for multiple hours a day. He would add that the game was 99% done and that he was making new phone calls.[26]

Five days later, July 30, Emil would state that the game is very close to completion, but development on the game would be put on a halt for a while due to having a vacation.[27] On August 5, Emil would make an update post saying development was going amazingly and that he was working on a bug of RAT going to a camera that is occupied by Chester.[28] Five days later, Emil would make a quick update post saying that he finished some changes and additions and all he needed to do was fix some balancing issues and bugs.[29] A few days later, Emil would announce that the game was finished and would release the next day.[30] On August 14, 2019, the remaster would officially release, and a few hours after release, it would be updated to version 1.1.[31] The next day version 1.2,[32] then 1.3.[33]

With the creation of the Fazbear Fanverse, Emil would make a post on the Five Nights at Candy's 4 Game Jolt page, announcing that Five Nights at Candy's Remastered, along with the other two titles, are going to be updated. He went on saying that FNaC 2 and FNaC 3 "will receive updates that will change a few visuals, upgrade the gameplay experience to be more fair and balanced, and most importantly, the updates will (hopefully) eliminate bugs and glitches."[34] A few years later, on October 21, 2023, Emil would post a status update for all existing FNaC games, saying that the original three games are planned to get substantial updated releases on Steam, while FNAC FUR and Five Nights at Candy's 4 received their own status updates.[35]

Trivia[]

  • The original Five Nights at Candy's was initially released in 2015, and then in 2019, for the fourth anniversary of Five Nights at Candy's, Emil Macko remastered the first title and released Five Nights at Candy's Remastered, which is replacing the original Five Nights at Candy's in the Fazbear Fanverse.
  • Unlike Five Nights at Candy's 2 and Five Nights at Candy's 3, Emil is updating Five Nights at Candy's Remastered instead of the original Five Nights at Candy's due to it already being the better, updated, and stable version of the original. Due to this, Remastered will likely take the least amount of time to update.
  • Five Nights at Candy's was originally created after the creator of a separate fangame called "Five Nights at Freddy's 3" (later renamed to "The Return to Freddy's") stole Candy's model and used it for a character named "Sugar" without permission.
  • Scott Cawthon commented on the teaser trailer for the original FNaC, saying, "Looks awesome; I think this is really well done. :)"
