Tutorial Unit, Five Nights at Freddy's AR: Special Delivery

Remnant is a key object in the Five Nights at Freddy's series. Remnant is the term for the physical manifestation of memories infused with and possessing inanimate objects, making it a driving force behind the paranormal occurrences in the animatronics besides the spirits themselves.

Remnant also appears as a collectible in Five Nights at Freddy's AR: Special Delivery.

While not appearing directly in Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator, Remnant was mentioned in the blueprints for the Scooper. It's revealed that William Afton experimented with it in the past. It is also mentioned in the scrapped schematics for Molten Freddy that Remnant acts as a contained human soul in order to make inanimate objects sentient. It goes on to mention that because of the large amount of remnant in his structure, Molten Freddy is essential in "Paragraph Four".

Five Nights at Freddy's AR: Special Delivery[]

There are two variants that can be found during gameplay:

  • Light Remnants - Illuminating orb-like objects that appear in different light colors. Increases the Remnant counter in full contact for the Workshop menu.
  • Dark Remnants - Swirling dark wisps in deep purple/black colors. When collected, it causes dark gas-like mist to appear around the screen's edges, which expands to cover more of the screen, the more Dark Remnants that are collected in a short timeframe.

Remnants can only be found when the player enters a Remnant Deposit that is found on the map. When the Flashlight is enabled, it will drag both types towards the player themselves, but the Dark Remnants move much faster than most Light Remnants. Unlike in encounters with animatronics, the flashlight will passively recharge when not turned on in here. Collecting Dark Remnants should be avoided, though this can be hard to do, as they usually orbit around the light ones. Care should be taken to obtain the Light Remnants without absorbing Dark Remnants where possible. The effect of absorbed Dark Remnants dissipates over time, restoring the player's screen and allowing them more room for error again. However, gathering too many Dark Remnants in a short timeframe will spawn RWQFSFASXC, and the flashlight will no longer recharge until after the encounter with him. Shining your flashlight on RWQFSFASXC long enough will cause it to disappear and reappear in a different spot. Continue shining your light at him every time he reappears to completely dispel him. If RWQFSFASXC manages to physically reach the player, it will cause a jumpscare and break any current streak the player has.

The player can exit a Remnant Deposit at any time by pressing the related button in the top-left of the screen (Any absorbed Dark Remnant currently on the player's screen when they leave will be carried over to the next Remnant Deposit they enter). However, attempting to exit after RWQFSFASXC has spawned will break the player's current streak, if they have one. After an encounter with RWQFSFASXC - win or lose - the player is then ejected from the Remnant Deposit automatically.

The Light Remnants can be used in the Workshop for enhancing the animatronics' attacking and salvaging abilities.

Light Remnants can come in many colors, and each one has its own stats. Quantity refers to how many instances of the same colour Remnant spawn together per generation, value refers to how much Remnant the player gets when collected, and speed refers to how fast the Remnant travels to the player once the Flashlight is enabled (0 speed is equal to the speed of Dark Remnant).

Color Quantity Value Speed
White 1 1 1
Green 2 2 -1
Blue 2 3 -3
Purple 2 4 0
Red 1 5 -2
Gold 1 9 -1
Rainbow 1 20 -2

Some Remnants are best pulled in using the flashlight, while others are significantly slower and usually are not picked up before collecting a bunch of Dark Remnants beforehand. As such, these slower Remnants are best retrieved by moving towards them physically, to pick them up. One thing that should be noted is that only remnants that are on-screen are pulled by the flashlight initially. Because of this, it can be possible to angle the device in a way where the target remnant is on the edge of the screen with as few Dark Remnants also on-screen as possible, and then use the flashlight to pull in the Remnant without also pulling the entire cloud of Dark Remnant. However, if a Remnant has already been partially pulled by the flashlight - light or dark - then it will still be pulled when the flashlight is turned on, regardless of if it is on-screen, or not.

  • White Remnants - Using the flashlight tends to be best, as the White Remnant is easily faster than the Dark Remnants protecting it. Perfectly timing the duration of the flashlight can allow the player to take only the White Remnant, without taking a single Shadowy Remnant with it.
  • Green Remnants - The flashlight is also ideal as they move relatively quickly, but there are a couple Dark Remnants loosely orbiting them, which can easily fool the player into thinking that the Green Remnants are unprotected. One can alternatively consider approaching the Green Remnants to collect them more safely.
  • Blue Remnants - Moving as close as possible to pick them up is highly recommended, because they move incredibly slowly, and one is likely to absorb all of the Dark Remnants protecting them, before they themselves are retrieved. Even close up to them, it can take a while for them to be pulled in with the flashlight.
  • Purple Remnants - Moving close to them is advised, due to the number of Dark Remnants often protecting them. At this point when close up, using a flashlight to pull them in completely can help minimize Dark Remnant pickups. Purple Remnants initially spawn with 3 Dark Remnants orbiting them, but more Dark Remnants will show up while they exist, with up to 6 Dark Remnants around them at a time. They may also not linger for as long as the Dark Remnants around them does, so collecting them in a timely fashion is best, if you choose to try to collect them.
  • Red Remnants - Generates with a highly dense cloud of Dark Remnants closely protecting it. Using the flashlight can often cause all of them to be launched towards the player. However, the Dark Remnants actually despawn some time before the Red Remnant itself does, meaning that if one waits for the right moment, they can safely pull in the Red Remnant with the flashlight when it's no longer protected.
  • Gold Remnants - Usually move around by themselves, moving closer or further away from the Dark Remnants protecting it. A mixture of moving towards the Gold Remnant as well as using the light when it's away from the accompanying Dark Remnants can usually allow the player to acquire it relatively safely.
  • Rainbow Remnants - Noticeably larger and brighter in appearance, compared to most other Remnants. Sometimes spawns without Dark Remnants protecting them, but they also don't linger for very long, unlike other Remnants. They may also appear close to already-existing Dark Remnant clouds as well. These are a high priority due to their value, but care should be taken to avoid Dark Remnants where possible, especially if the player is already on the verge of making RWQFSFASXC show up. A mixture of movement and light usage is a good approach to ensure that it is retrieved without endangering the player too much.

Trivia[]

  • Remnant has been seemingly a part of the games before Five Nights at Freddy's AR: Special Delivery, right at the time of Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location and possibly before.
  • Remnant's depiction in Five Nights at Freddy's AR: Special Delivery reveals that unlike in the novels, which had it described as behaving like a molten liquid metal, Remnant in the games appears to be a bright shimmering orb of light resembling a star, making it fit the description of a soul.
  • When RWQFSFASXC appears, there will be no static, but after shining it enough that it teleports to a new spot there will be static to help the player find it.
  • It is heavily implied that William Afton's main goal was to find a way to control remnant to become immortal, which in turn caused him to commit many of his infamous murders.
  • Unlike encounters with animatronics, Remnant AR mode uses 3D locational positioning. This means that the player can move closer to or away from where Remnants are seen on-screen, and this will also affect their positioning in the game, allowing them to retrieve Remnants just by physically moving to where they're located.
    • Encounters with RWQFSFASXC also utilize this mechanic, meaning that one can back away from him in order to get more distance from him during the encounter.
  • Dark Remnant seems to be given its dark colour due to containing Agony, which explains why they resemble one-another and share properties with another substance from the Fazbear Frights series, as both are considered polar opposites of Remnant and have sentient entities composed of said substances. More so, at one point, the character known as Agony, manifested as RWQFSFASXC to torment one of its victims.
    • In this case, Agony may be considered the Fazbear Frights equivalent of Shadowy Remnant and vice-versa.
  • The naming and AR appearance of Dark Remnant seems to have originated from the Skylander character Hood Sickle featured in the sixth mainline installment of the Skylanders franchise (2016).
