Five Nights at Freddy's[]

Gameplay[]

Uh... Interestingly enough, Freddy himself doesn't come off stage very often. I heard he becomes a lot more active in the dark though, so, hey, I guess that's one more reason not to run out of power, right?

Freddy starts the night on the Show Stage, along with his bandmates, Bonnie and Chica. Upon activation, he will follow a set path from the Show Stage to the Office. The path is as follows:

Show StageDining AreaRestroomsKitchenEast Hall → East Hall Corner → The Office.

Unlike the other animatronics, he will remain in dark areas of the room he is occupying, leaving mostly his eyes and parts of his face visible. This implies that Freddy is avoiding the cameras as much as possible or, as Phone Guy states, this may be because Freddy is more active in the dark.

Freddy will not be visible if another animatronic is in the same room as him. Viewing Freddy on the security cameras will slow him on his path, even if he is not visible in the room due to Bonnie or Chica's presence.

Freddy will play his jingle either when he is in the Kitchen, where he is not visible as that room's camera is disabled, or in The Office when the power is out and the player has no means of warding him off.

Freddy spook

Freddy playing his jingle after the power runs out, animated.

For the first two nights of the week, Freddy is inactive and stays onstage, looking at the camera intermittently. During those nights, he only becomes active if the player runs out of power.

If the Office's power runs out, then after a maximum of 20 seconds, Freddy Fazbear's face will light up in the left doorway, illuminated and shimmering, accompanied by his music box jingle. After a maximum of 20 seconds, the remaining lights of the Office and Freddy's face will flicker and turn off, turning the room completely dark (in addition, Freddy's jingle will stop as well). Being initially not visible (yet sometimes audible due to his footsteps), Freddy will eventually approach the guard and attack them, resulting in a game over.

Contrary to popular belief, staying still and "playing dead" during this sequence does not delay Freddy's attack, as the amount of time Freddy takes to attack the player is determined entirely by random chance.[1]

From Night 3 onward, Freddy becomes active while the power is on. Once active, he will move in a straight line towards the East Hall Corner, right next to the Office. However, he is only capable of moving while the Monitor is down, meaning that it can be used to slow him down. Usually, when Freddy moves, a deep laugh and running footsteps are heard instead of the usual walking footsteps the animatronics create when moving.

Once Freddy reaches the East Hall Corner, he behaves differently, as he does not appear in the right door's blindspot. Whenever the player is looking at a camera that is not Cam 4B, Freddy will attempt to enter the Office, assuming he is ready to move. If the right door is open, he will then enter the office and jumpscare the player randomly at any time their monitor is down. (Freddy will not pull the monitor down if it is up. He also has no upper limit to his attack wait time, meaning he could potentially never attack the player even if he enters the office.) If the right door is closed, he will instead move to the East Hall and try to get back to the corner.[1]

The most efficient way to prevent Freddy from reaching Cam 4B is to monitor the cameras frequently to stall his movements. Once he is in the East Hall Corner, the player should avoid looking at a camera other than Cam 4B where possible, and close the right door if it is necessary to check a different camera.

Activity Levels[]

Every 302 ticks, or approx. 3 seconds (each tick is approximately 0.01 seconds), when the monitor is down, the game will pick a random number between 1 and 20. If it is less than Freddy's AI, Freddy will be set to Might move. When he is set to Might move, a timer will be started. Every tick is increased by 1. If it is greater than or equal to 1000 subtracted by Freddy's AI level multiplied by 100, Freddy will be set to Will move. This timer is always set to 0 if the player has the monitor up and is watching Freddy. Note that if Freddy's AI is higher than 10, the timer will always be at 0, resulting in him immediately moving. Once Freddy is set to Will move, he will immediatly move to another room and the value will be reset. Freddy is also the only animatronic whose AI will not increase at certain times.

Locations[]

Along with Foxy, Freddy cannot move to locations in random order. Freddy will move through the following order:

Location 1
Current Area Following Areas
Show Stage Dining Area > Restrooms > Kitchen > East Hall > East Hall Corner
Location 2
Current Area Optional Areas
East Hall Corner The Office*
East Hall*

*Depending on if the right door is closed or not.

Power Depleted[]

When power is lost, Freddy begins an alternate attack mode determined by chances and timers. There are three phases to the attack, each rolling a 20% chance of progression repeatedly over a 20-second period; if that time expires, the phase immediately moves on.

  1. Initially, the office will be at low power, with dim lights in the room. There is a 20% chance each 5 seconds for this phase to end, but if 20 seconds pass it'll immediately end.
  2. Freddy will come in to the left hallway, light up his (flickering) eyes and mouth, and start his jingle. The chances of progression are the same as in the previous phase, 20% each 5 seconds or forcefully after 20 seconds.
  3. The remaining lights will cut out, and Freddy will stop his jingle. The chances of progression are 20% each 2 seconds, but the phase will still end forcefully after 20 seconds.
  4. Freddy jumpscares the player. Cue the death screen.

The power loss can interrupt any other animatronic's attack, even mid-jumpscare. Likewise, the night ending at 6 AM can interrupt this attack sequence, even mid-jumpscare.

Five Nights at Freddy's 2[]

Classic Freddy[]

His origin is further explored in the prequel Five Nights at Freddy's 2, appearing as his earliest incarnation by the name of Withered Freddy, who has fallen into severe disrepair and was later replaced by Toy Freddy within the different pizzeria. After the events of the second game, Withered Freddy was later rebuilt to become his original self for the events of the first game.

The original Freddy still appears in four end-of-night cutscenes from the player's point of view. After the events of the second game, Withered Freddy was retrofitted to reduce his damaged state for the first Five Nights at Freddy's game.

Withered Freddy[]

FNAF2OldFreddyJumpscare

Withered Freddy attacking the night guard, animated.

Withered Freddy starts moving on Night 3, although he is not very active on said night. Withered Freddy starts the night in the Parts/Service room, looking rather dazed, with the other old animatronics, with Withered Freddy being the last to exit the room. He then enters into the Main Hall and then to Party Room 3 to stare into the camera, before standing in the hallway just outside the Office, only a step away from entering.

Unlike the other old animatronics, Withered Freddy is much less active and goes into the Office much more rarely than the others. However, he has a similar role to them and is still a very active animatronic. As with Withered Bonnie and Withered Chica, Withered Freddy does not appear to become active enough to enter the Office until Night 3, as he did in the original game. Withered Freddy takes the path down the entrance hallway, entering the Office through said hallway, similar to Toy Freddy. However, unlike Toy Freddy, Withered Freddy has only one phase in the hallway before entering the Office.

When Withered Freddy is in the hallway and the player lowers the Monitor, Withered Freddy will stand in front of the desk as the lights constantly flicker before he vanishes. The player must put on the Freddy Fazbear Head the moment they see Withered Freddy inside the Office to avoid imminent death. Delaying or neglecting to don the head will cause the screen to black out as normal, only for him to return and give the player a "Game Over" after raising and lowering the Monitor. He may also forcibly pull down the Monitor or remove the Freddy Head if left on for some time after failing to ward him off. However, if Withered Freddy is warded off via equipping the Freddy Fazbear Head, then he returns to Parts/Service, and his cycle repeats. It should be noted that the player must keep tabs on Withered Freddy when he is in the hallway, because staying too long in the Monitor while he's in the hallway will immediately trigger his jumpscare without entering the Office.

Withered Freddy's AI levels for each night are as follows:

  • Night 1: 0
  • Night 2: 0
  • Night 3: 0/2
  • Night 4: 0/3
  • Night 5: 2/5
  • Night 6: 5/10

From the Custom Night, night modes where Withered Freddy is active are listed as follows:

  • 20/20/20/20 (20)
  • Freddy's Circus (20)
  • Cupcake Challenge (5)
  • Fazbear Fever (10)
  • Golden Freddy (20)

Five Nights at Freddy's 3[]

Freddy returns once more in Five Nights at Freddy's 3. He is now one of the attractions at Fazbear's Fright along with the other animatronics, where his head and limbless body remain. He can be seen outside the doorway to the left of The Office. Being a lifeless suit, Freddy is incapable of moving or attacking the night guard. His appearance does not affect gameplay and is only present for aesthetic purposes. His role is majorly replaced by his phantom counterpart Phantom Freddy.

Freddy's most notable appearance is in the end-of-night minigames. Upon completing each night, the player will be taken to a short minigame, with graphics similar to old Atari gaming systems, during which they must navigate a map of the pizzeria from the first game.

On the first night, the player will start out as Freddy Fazbear, appearing on the Show Stage from the first game, alongside Bonnie and Chica. If they leave the Stage and enter any other room, they will encounter what appears to be Shadow Freddy, instructing the player to follow it. It will lead them to a room on the east side of the restaurant, and it will enter a room which is inaccessible to the player (they will receive an "ERR" message if they try to enter it). If they try to walk away, then Purple Guy will rush out and dismantle Freddy, and the minigame ends.

During every other end-of-night minigame, Freddy's remains can be seen scattered throughout the very same room he was dismantled in.

From the "Happiest Day" minigame, one of the six children at the end of the minigame is seen wearing Freddy's mask.

Five Nights at Freddy's 4[]

Minigame stuff

A Freddy plushie in one of the end-of-night minigames.

Freddy himself does not make any major appearance in Five Nights at Freddy's 4. His plushie can be seen on the Bed from the main gameplay as well as in some minigames after completing each night. The other appearance is when he appears on the TV on the Night 2 minigame, on a commercial titled "Fredbear & Friends!".

From the end-of-night minigame after completing Night 5, one of the protagonist's older brother's friends is seen wearing Freddy's mask.

Rather than appearing as himself, Freddy is replaced with Nightmare Freddy.

FNaF World[]

The contents of this article or section are from a non-canon source, and thus, have no bearing on the official lore of the series.

With his playable counterpart's appearance in the RPG spin-off FNaF World, the original Withered Freddy himself appeared in Update 2's minigame Foxy.EXE.

Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location[]

Freddy does not physically appear in Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location himself, but his upgraded "funtime" counterpart, Funtime Freddy, takes his role for the majority of the game. He was briefly mentioned by HandUnit while discussing about the closure of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza.

Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator[]

Main article: Starting Minigame

Freddy appears briefly in Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator, during the beginning minigame and a few cutscene images showing both his original and withered version. In the majority of the game, he is replaced by Molten Freddy, and his rockstar counterpart, Rockstar Freddy.

Once the player boots up the game for the first time, they began a minigame where they play as an 8-bit Freddy Fazbear. The player can move him with the WASD keys. The player must pick up pizzas from the upper right corner, and throw them at a group of kids. All of the kids need three pizzas to disappear, and once all of the kids disappear, the player moves to the next round. There are four rounds in total, and on the last round, Shadow Freddy will appear to block the thrown pizzas (he will freeze for a few seconds once the player hits him with a pizza). After the player beats this minigame, they will see a cutscene with Scrap Baby, and begin the main game of Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator.

Ultimate Custom Night[]

Freddy Fazbear approaches from the Left Hall, emerging from the darkness and progressing in stages toward the door. Keep track of him on the monitor and shut the door when he is standing in the doorway to turn him away. He moves faster as the building gets warmer, so the player needs to keep him at a cool 60 degrees whenever possible.
Ultimate Custom Night description,

Freddy's Jumpscare

Freddy attacking the player, animated.

Freddy Fazbear returns in Ultimate Custom Night as one of the many selectable characters.

As stated by the character description found in Ultimate Custom Night, Freddy Fazbear appears in the Left Hall.

Once Freddy Fazbear spawns, he will slowly make his way closer towards the Office left door, moving in 4 notable phases en route. When seen in his fourth phase, the player has a short amount of time in which they can close the left door or else their night will end with a jumpscare from Freddy.

The speed at which Freddy transitions between phases will increase during the night if the temperature within the Office increases.

The challenges in which Freddy is present are as follows:

  • Bears Attack 1 (10)
  • Bears Attack 2 (10)
  • Bears Attack 3 (20)
  • Old Friends (20)
  • Chaos 2 (5)

Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted[]

Freddy himself returns as one of the antagonists in Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted. He appears in all levels in FNAF 1 section as well as Repair Freddy in the Parts and Service section.

FNAF 1[]

Freddypartsandservicewikiplaceholder

Freddy attacking the player, animated.

Freddy appears on the show stage in every night available, and first becomes active on Night 2, unlike the original Five Nights at Freddy's, but he only begins moving very late into the night, and his activity doesn't really pick up until Night 3, just like the original game, unless the player runs out of power, in which Freddy will play his Toreador March and attack the player.

Freddy makes his way from show stage, dining area, restrooms, kitchen, east Hall, east hall corner to the office. Viewing Freddy on the security cameras will slow him on his path. Once he is at the east hall corner, the player can only avoid being attacked by him by closing the right door, but that does not make him leave. Unlike the original game, Freddy will now be visible in the blind spot when turning on the light, but will not make any sound effect when viewed, unlike Bonnie and Chica.

Parts and Service[]

In Repair Freddy, the player must clean out some personal items that a customer has left on Freddy, and retrieve it so it can be taken to lost and found. Follow HandUnit's instruction correctly to prevent him from attacking. However, touching the sensitive wires inside Freddy will trigger Freddy to attack the player. Freddy's music box must also be removed momentarily, to then put it back again. However, the player will drop the music box in a scripted event. His eyes will glow red after that, meaning that he's very angry, and the player must insert a replacement slowly and carefully to calm him down. Failing in doing so will result in a jumpscare. To close Freddy's chest plate, the player needs to honk Freddy's nose, thus ending the level. However, touching his nose too early will cause Freddy to get aggressive.

Halloween DLC[]

Withered Freddy returns in Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted as one of the numerous antagonists, in the Withered level for the Hard Mode of FNAF2 mode. His behavior is the same as it was in the original Five Nights at Freddy's 2; once he enters the office, the player must put on the Freddy Fazbear Mask to ward him off or else he will jumpscare them.

Withered Freddy also appears in the Trick or Treat level from the Curse of Dreadbear DLC along with the rest of the withered animatronics, Mangle, and BB, where he is one of the possible animatronics that can answer the door. If he is the animatronic that answers the door, the player must put on the Freddy Fazbear Mask, or else he will jumpscare them.

Five Nights at Freddy's AR: Special Delivery[]

Gameplay[]
