Midnight Motorist is one of the three lore-containing minigames from Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator.

Access Requirement[]

Purchase the Midnight Motorist Arcade from the Catalog's "Stan's Budget Tech" section for $170.

Playthrough[]

Main Gameplay[]

The player controls a pink race car and has to reach the finish while avoiding other purple cars. The player's speed increases the longer the player goes without hitting another car, but hitting a car will make them lose their speed.

Secret Gameplay[]

MidnightMotorist-FullMap

Full map.

If the player drives through the gap in the bottom border of the screen, they will be transported to a new area. The music will change and the player will control a car as they drive through a winding road in a rainy forest. Eventually, the player will reach a fork in the road and have the option to go either west or south. If the player goes west, they will arrive at a location with a neon sign labeled "JR's". In the parking lot they will get out of their car, showing the player to be a mostly featureless and yellow stick figure. Walking towards the Jr's building they are greeted by a green man, who prevents them from entering, telling them:

Come on, you know you can't be here. Don't make this more difficult than it has to be.

From here, the player may return to their car and go south. Alternatively, if the player goes back up north and turns west, they will find another secret area off the road. The player will get out of the car here and may walk around a cleared area of forest. In the upper left corner of this area there is a mound which may be interpreted as a burial grave.

Upon going south from the fork, the player will arrive at their house. Inside the house upon entering, you can see a person dressed in grey (presumably a relative) sitting in an armchair and staring at the television. Attempting to interact with them will cause the message box to display:

Leave him alone tonight. He had a rough day.

Going up to the next room, the player will attempt to enter another person's room, but the door is closed shut. The player will say:

I told you not to close your door.

Walking away from the door back towards the first room another box will appear, the player saying:

This is my house. He can't ignore me like that.

Approaching the door for the second time, the player will shout:

OPEN THE DOOR!

There will seem to be no response. Walking away again, another text box will appear:

I'll find a way in from outside...

To advance from here, the player must leave the house and go around the outside to the back. Here, they will find a shattered window and footprints (along with a pair of rabbit-like footprints) next to the window. The player's character deduces the following words:

Ran off to that place again. He will be sorry when he gets back.

The minigame ends here and returns to the Pizzeria Simulator screen.

Theories and Speculations[]

WitheredChica-Icon "I was the first! I have seen everything!"

This section archives a lot of theories and speculation, which usually occurs from pre-release media, or just things that are still unknown, so please keep that in mind while reading. The page will continue to be updated with the most accurate information as more solid evidence is supplied.

There are several major theories as to the identity of the Yellow Man as depicted in the latter secret portion of this minigame's gameplay. None have been fully confirmed as of yet, though there is some evidence to support all of them.

  • One theory that has been proposed is that the Yellow Man may be William Afton.[1]
    • Those that attest to this theory put forth that, in the minigame, the player, the Yellow Man, drives a car that appears to be similar to the one William Afton is seemingly seen getting out of to murder Charlotte Emily in the "Take Cake to the Children" minigame from FNaF 2 as they are both a shade of purple.
    • It is further claimed to be shown in the Security Puppet minigame that both the murder and the events of this minigame take place on a rainy night.
    • Fans of this theory say it is supported in the game files, as the second section of the minigame containing JR's, the apparent mound and the lone house is labelled "later that night", attesting that this refers to the night in which Charlotte Emily was killed.
    • All of this evidence put together leads fans of this theory to the conclusion that the playable character in this minigame may be William Afton right after he killed Charlotte Emily.
    • Some have further theorized the person watching TV is William's son Michael Afton as one of Michael's hobbies is allegedly watching television, as seen between shifts in Sister Location. He also speaks with grey text, similar to how Michael spoke in the cutscenes of FnaF 4.
    • If Midnight Motorist's secret map is turned 90° clockwise a similar relationship may be interpreted between Jr.'s and the Yellow Man's house as with the restaurant and the Afton house as seen in Five Nights at Freddy's 4's Night 3 Minigame, with travel between the two involving going down a vertical path, to the left and then up a vertical path again. Some theorists have taken this as evidence that Jr's may be the same building as the restaurant in the Five Nights at Freddy's 4, lending credence to the idea that the Yellow Man may be William.
    • The runaway kid is thus speculated to be the Crying Child who ran away due to his father, William's abuse and neglect.
    • Theorists propose that the footprints seen around the back of the Yellow Man's House belong to the Nightmare animatronics that were haunting the Crying Child throughout FNaF 4.
    • Since the Crying Child is allegedly one of William’s sons, and FNAF4 is theorized to take place around 1983, this would connect to the theory that Charlotte's death takes place around the same time as FNaF4 in 1983.
  • A counter-theory is that the Yellow Man could instead be the abusive parent of one of the Missing Children Incident victims. And the minigame depicts the night on which they discovered that their child was lured away from home and either captured by one of William Afton's animatronics or by William himself in a costume.[2]
    • Fans of this theory have interpreted the encounter at Jr.'s to be indicative that the Yellow Man may be an alcoholic or have drinking issues and the Green Man, from their dialogue and role as blocking the entrance, may be a bouncer turning them away from that establishment. The Yellow Man's behavior, in reckless driving, in how they are spoken to by other characters, and in their treatment towards their child would seem to suggest a history of violence and control, supporting this reading.
    • This theory then contends that Jr.'s may be a bar the Yellow Man might have frequented in the past as opposed to a Freddy's location and the spot of Charlotte Emily's murder. Furthermore, the flashing neon sign on the building could be considered more reminiscent of a bar than a child-friendly diner.
    • The footprints outside the house near the broken window of the "runaway" kid's bedroom are a major factor of support for this theory. There are two big, animatronic-like footprints in the mud and there are smaller footprints that appear to lead from the broken window to the large footprints, suggesting that the Yellow Man's son may have been lured away by whatever made the larger footprints, an outcome that does not seem very likely with Nightmare animatronics.
    • The probable conclusion following this theory is that the one that lured the Yellow Man's son away may be William Afton in a costume since he is known to have done so to his victims on various occasions.
    • If this is the case, this event may be referenced in the Pizza Party level in Night Terrors from FNAF VR: Help Wanted, where the player starts out in a child's bedroom which looks similar to the one in FNaF 4 and explores various FNAF-related locations before ending up lured to Freddy's by William Afton in a costume. just as it would appear happened in this minigame.
    • Since the Fruity Maze minigame also appears to feature one of the Missing Children victims (possibly Susie) it is possible that the Midnight Motorist minigame is also intended to offer clues on that subject.
  • Regardless of the identity of the Yellow Man, details would appear to place the event depicted in this minigame at a point prior to the time when the Springlock suits were introduced, or after they were retired.
    • This is due to the fact that it is raining in the minigame and Springlock suits are known to malfunction if they get wet.
  • Some theorists have suggested that there is a connection to the FNAF Novel Trilogy in this minigame. While both universes have been stated to contain their own canon, the secret "grave" mound seen off the road in the minigame's secret map may allude to the Twisted animatronics from The Twisted Ones novels, which would bury themselves during daytime.[3]
    • Due to the proposed possible parallels between the twisted and Nightmare animatronics, some have theorized that the Nightmares may also bury themselves during the day.

Trivia[]

  • The second section of the minigame after the motorway exit is labelled as "Later that night" from Clickteam Fusion's MFA.
  • Along with the "Fruity Maze" game, the product picture of the Midnight Motorist arcade game appears to have been designed with a total of four controllers, implying that it supports over 1-4 players.
  • Prior to update v1.021, the hit box from the Green Man is large, making it difficult for the player to speak to them.
  • Further inspection shows that, when inverted, Green Man becomes dark purple, which is reminiscent to William Afton in the "SAVETHEM" minigame from Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
  • One of the cars in the parking lot is also green, which could belong to the Green Man.
  • The Freddy Files refers to JR's as a restaurant, not a bar as some have theorised, and the mound as an unmarked pile of dirt. However, some fans have doubted the accuracy of the book series due to errors.
  • Carl wears a shirt with Midnight Motorist on it, in the Five Nights at Freddy's film.

Five Nights at Freddy's: The Ultimate Guide | Page 93 - "Some have theorized that the yellow guy is still William Afton (Springtrap is yellow, after all) and that the gray person watching TV in the house is his son Michael. The runaway son is believed to be the bite victim, who was stolen by the animatronic, as there were two sets of footprints—one human and one animatronic—leading away from the broken window."
  2. Five Nights at Freddy's: The Ultimate Guide | Page 93 - "Another interesting theory posits that the yellow man isn't Afton at all, but the father of one of the kidnapping victims. The animatronic footprints were make by Afton, wearing the Springtrap suit, who broke into the house and stole the child from his bed."
