Plot[]
Dirk is a writer for the local paper who chooses to stay with his group of friends instead of becoming a travel writer purely in hopes that his friend Jenny will fall in love with him. One day, the group reminisces about Freddy's. They all bond over the familiar characters of Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy. However, when Dirk brings up the character Felix the Shark, his friends are confused. He recalls specific details—that Felix the Shark was kept in an aquarium-like large tube around the pizzeria that visitors could enter and swim along with him in—but his friends believe he is making it up.
Determined to prove that his memory of Felix was true, Dirk uses his mother's old magic performance records and his own research on Fazbear Entertainment to track down Felix. He eventually reaches Forktown, a near-abandoned town, and finds a few people who remember Felix, all of whom had terrible nightmares concerning him. He learns that the Freddy's was condemned after a kid nearly drowned in Felix's tank, but the owner made a deal with a land developer to have Freddy's be built over instead of torn down. He also learns of rumors that Felix was still running and the owner had a secret entrance.
Dirk investigates further and he eventually discovers the name of the owner, Aaron Sanders, and that it has been replaced by the Crawberry Flows Water Park. He looks around and finds nothing, so he returns to the Inn and asks Maude about Aaron. She reveals that during a vacation his son chased a butterfly into the water of a beach and got caught in the surf, drowning him. According to Aaron, his body was pushed into shallow waters by a shark that swam close to shore. This caused Aaron to become obsessed with sharks and butterflies, eventually leading to the controversial Felix the Shark.
Maude informs Dirk that only Louisa Sanders, his daughter, is left, and she is in Mattson State Hospital, with the last thing she ever did before was write one of Dirk's favorite books, The Dogged Dogmatist. The book is about a man who meets uncertain doom after trying to find a shark-croc hybrid, and the book had very odd inclusions, like a strange drawing. Dirk lies to the staff of the hospital and is able to visit Louisa, but she only gives him a zebra longwing butterfly pendant. Dirk is at first confused, but he quickly makes a realization.
In the book, the main character receives four clues that mean nothing. The first two relate to a small swimming hole and the flow of water, the third is about a butterfly, and the fourth is about a certain time. Dirk returns to the derelict water park and reaches an empty swimming pool. At the specified time, the shadows create an arrow that points Dirk in a certain direction, and he finds a pattern in some tiles that match the drawing in the book. He finds a drain with an indent matching the pendant, and using it gives him a key to the locked pump house. Dirk follows the flow of water in the pump house to a maintenance building, and there he finds the front doors to Freddy Fazbear's Pizza.
He enters the building and reaches the entrance to Felix's swimming tubes. He attaches a face mask and breathing hose to himself and opens the hatch, closing it behind him. In the tube, a second hatch opens, and a run-down Felix animatronic comes out. Dirk tries to swim back to the hatch, but realizes he made a critical error; the hatch could only be opened from the outside. Felix's sharp teeth get caught around Dirk's waistband of his pants, and Dirk is unable to free himself. They circle around to the hatch again and Dirk tries to grab something, but there isn't anything to grab, and he is doomed to remain trapped inside of the tank with Felix.
