FNaF World, fully titled Five Nights at Freddy's World, is an indie fantasy-adventure role-playing video game developed and published by Scott Cawthon and is the first spin-off in the Five Nights at Freddy's series. The game was initially released on January 21, 2016, on Steam, before being removed on January 25, 2016. Shortly after the removal, the game was rereleased on February 8, 2016, on Game Jolt.
An Android port was released on January 12, 2017, but was removed off Google Play a day later. Future plans for the game, like Update 3 and an iOS port, were officially canceled on January 17, 2017.[1]
Summary[]
Featuring the entire cast from the Five Nights at Freddy's series, this fantasy RPG will let players control their favorite animatronics in an epic animated adventure!
With 48 playable characters, multiple endings, multiple difficulties, and a great soundtrack from artist Leon Riskin, FNaF World hits the ground running and doesn't stop. Take control of Freddy and the gang as they set out on a quest in the world beneath worlds, a world that reflects the actions and deeds of the "flipside", where things have started becoming distorted and broken. Lead your team deeper into this digital world to find the source of these glitches and monsters, and restore it to what it was designed to be- a safe haven.
But be careful, behind the curtain there may be something even more sinister pulling the strings...
Gameplay[]
The game is a turn-based RPG with a large map to explore. When in the overworld, it is in a top-down view. There are numbered buttons on the side of the screen that allow the player to fast travel to different areas of the map. Orange buttons are placed around the map that unlock different sections and allow the player to fast travel to them. When roaming in the overworld, there are random encounters. The encounters send the player into battle with either an enemy or a challenger that you can unlock as a party member upon defeating them.
Bosses are also found in the overworld, often guarding something important for game progression. The player can buy from NPCs in the overworld to obtain Bytes, Upgrades, or go fishing. Chests are scattered around the map that can contain either Faz Tokens or Chips. There are glitchy objects in the overworld, such as certain trees or rocks. Walking into one of these glitchy objects sends you to the Flipside, which is an alternate world that is used to navigate to other areas of the map. The Flipside has multiple layers, called Sub-Tunnels. Each Sub-Tunnel has different visuals.
In battles, the player uses a party of 8 to fight enemies. There are two sets of characters in the party. There are 4 characters in each set, and only one set of characters can be used at once. Each character has 3 moves that can be used to damage the enemy or support the party. The characters move in turns. When it is a character's turn, their move names will show up next to them, and the player can click on the move names to use the move. Bytes can be equipped to have various effects during battles, such as damaging enemies or healing party members. Chips also give battle effects, such as boosting the party's stats or having shields protecting the party.
There are various endings that can be achieved. The different endings award trophies that appear on the starting screens. In the Halloween Update, there is an entirely new area added that contains various minigames that can be played to unlock more characters that can be added to the party.
Development[]
The game was first noticed when on September 9, 2015, when a giant "Thank you!" picture featuring nearly all of the animatronics of the Five Nights at Freddy's series, was starting to turn into the characters of FNaF World. It started off with Endo-01, then Endo-02, Fredbear, and so on (with the only exception being the floating Golden Freddy head in the background, who was removed because FNaF World featured no adventure variant of Withered Golden Freddy). On September 22, 2015, all of the playable characters appeared on the image. The Phantoms, Shadows, Paperpals, Crying Child, Fredbear, and Spring Bonnie appeared during that time, while they weren't on the original picture. Scott made a new website, fnafworld.com, to show FNaF World-related teasers.
Later, fnafworld.com was edited, saying that a hacker had gotten the files to FNaF World, and that would release them sometime on October 28, 2015. It ended up being FNaF World: Halloween Edition, and appears to be a reskin of one of Scott's older games. After it was released, Scott confirmed the first trailer, and released it on October 30, 2015.
On November 3, 2015, both Scottgames.com and fnafworld.com were completely stripped of their color, leaving only the titles, warning notice and a dark image remaining. If brightened, a picture of Mangle, who appears to be dangling by an unknown source, appears on fnafworld.com. A warped text can also be seen on the bottom of the image reading "See what you've all done?". It was later removed the same day, as it appeared to contain suicidal themes.
Scott Cawthon later went on a three week break without warning, until releasing new pictures on IndieDB. On the same day, a picture of the enemy Ballboy; its head is shown at the bottom. On Christmas eve, Scott later posted a "Merry Christmas!" photo of the characters before the Mangle teaser, featuring Bubba, Browboy, Mad Endo, and Porkpatch. It was later changed after Christmas.
On January 8, 2016, the second trailer was uploaded only on IndieDB. Scott Cawthon confirmed the release date to be February 19, 2016, but later changed to January 21, 2016. Due to the amount of hate, Scott removed it off Steam, and confirmed that he will update it to make it better for the community. On February 8, 2016, it was re-released on Game Jolt, with the first update for visual improvements.
On February 18, 2016, Update 2 is confirmed to be under development. On May 13, 2016, Update 2 was officially released.
The game was expected to release on Android and IOS ports, but after hate and some controversy in the ports, Scott has stopped support on FNaF World ports and future updates to the game. The Android port was pulled out of stores and the IOS ports were never released. The PC version was still up on Game Jolt as it originated there.
The website went dark for a long time, that is until certain things relating to Five Nights at Freddy's were posted in the website's code. This happened on its sister website, Scottgames.com.
On June 11, 2017, Scott posted an image of Scrap Baby's eyes. This was related to the source codes, but could not be posted on Scottgames.com, most likely due to the 2nd book of the game series, The Twisted Ones, being teased on the said website.
On August 8, 2019, the image of Scrap Baby has been replaced with the number 58, its meaning is unknown at this time. Brightening up the image revealed messages of random fans criticizing Scott. It was later revealed that year in December, for the charity game Freddy in Space 2.
As of now, the FNaF World site remains completely black and lifeless.

Reception[]
Though receiving an 87% on Steam, the FNaF World reviews were very negative. It was believed that the game was entirely rushed, due to the 3D overworld was changed into the 2D overworld, the sudden change when into battle, and the battle system. Some of the reviews that influenced these ratings were very troll-like, with those being voted Helpful while the opposite occurred for any positive ones.
On Game Jolt however, FNaF World received a total 5 star rating, with around 4,000 followers and 2,500 ratings. It became one of the first best "games tagged in FNaF" for very long, although its placing is often switched with fan games.

Glitches[]
- Very rarely, some objects are not solid on the Halloween area which will lead the player to go out of bounds and explore the complete map of the game, including otherwise inaccessible areas.
- There was a loading glitch prior to the 1.1 update, caused by standing over certain objects while in the world &*_ _ _TWRE, creating a load screen (caused by entering the Party, Byte, Or Chip menu) and being able to interact with said objects. What happens is that when the player loads back in, for a split second, the player is registered in the normal overworld and are able to interact with objects the player couldn't interact with in the &*_ _ _TWRE world. Using this glitch, the player can reach areas in the Update 2 version of the game by loading the player's save in the demo. Since the glitch is present in the demo, the player can collect chips, save, and load their save again in Update 2. Using the Auto:Run and Find:Character chips, the player can trigger an Infinite Encounter glitch when only having Tier 2 characters and below in &*_ _ _TWRE.
- Using this glitch, it grants the player the access to one of the final bosses, Scott Cawthon without battling Security.
- It is entirely possible to access any chest using this glitch, without having to do their normal required ways of obtaining them.
- Sometimes, the bytes can constantly fire, making normal battles much easier. It can be stopped by creating a loading screen.
Trivia[]
- Funtime Foxy, Lolbit, and Circus Baby later appeared in Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location, while Dee Dee, Old Man Consequences, Bouncepot, Tangle, and White Rabbit appeared in Ultimate Custom Night.
- Funtime Foxy was introduced into this game as an undamaged version of Mangle as opposed to the version seen in Sister Location. There has never been a proper explanation for this, as Mangle does not have the typical design features of what would be considered a funtime animatronic.
- Around October 17, 2016, Scott Cawthon deleted the teaser trailer from his YouTube channel.[2]
- There was an exploit to get FNaF World on Steam for free after Scott removed it. As of July 3, 2024, Scott completely removed the free branch of FNaF World from Steam, making it impossible for users to install the game on the platform. On the same day, Scott also updated the paid branch of FNaF World in a private build, leading to speculation among fans about what this could mean for the future of the game.
- In the 10-year anniversary interview with Dawko, Scott was asked if he had anything he would want to go back on and change. Scott answered that he wishes to get one more chance with FNaF World or even get another developer to make the game. He added that maybe in the future, when he gets really antsy about it and has the free time, a FNaF World 2 could happen.[3]
