Physical Appearance[]
David has a badly cut thatch of fine brown hair. He has a freckled face and an uptilted nose. David takes after Fiona more, with the only bit of Edwin on David being the slope to his dark brown eyes. He’s remarkably big for his age, weighing close to fifty pounds and is three-and-a-half-feet tall. David has full, small lips, stubby fingers, and a dimple on his chin.
Personality[]
David was a playful and energetic boy. When he was a baby, he was fussy and cried often. Edwin, his father, chalked up David's cries in early infancy as a response to losing his mother during childbirth, although it's possible this was just Edwin reflecting his own mourning onto David as David never expresses any desire for his mother.
As David grew into a four year old, he developed a happy and frisky personality, constantly wanting to play and be in the presence of others, often pulling Edwin away from his work. When David was introduced to Mimic, his playful behavior seemed to amplify, now having an outlet to express it through. He also seemed to develop an extraordinary amount of intelligence for his age during this time. He developed a form of sign language and created a secret language using symbols on paper to communicate with Mimic, showing advanced language processing skills. He also enjoyed drawing and teaching Mimic how to draw. When it came to crafting things, David took after his father in the aspect of finding use in scraps and rubbish. After noticing Mimic copied the arm curl that David did when holding his tiger plush, David asked his father if they could get Mimic its own toy. After being rejected, David collected white lace around the factory with the help of Mimic and created his own makeshift plush for the robot to carry.
While David is intelligent in certain situations he has naivety in others, most notably in situations where he gets too excited. When it comes to Mimic, David often treats it like an actual human. On one occasion, he attempted to feed Mimic mac and cheese before being stopped by his father. He had also taught Mimic how to ask for ice cream using their sign language. Additionally, he talks to Mimic as if it has consciousness. This behavior possibly contributed to Mimic developing consciousness early on through David's love for it. David had a habit of getting in trouble with Mimic, with much of his mistakes being attributed to the naivety of his young age. One time, David and Mimic stole suits from Edwin's workshop to play in which got the suits themselves dirty. Neither Mimic or David understood that consequence of their actions until David was scolded for it by Edwin.
It's notable that while the relationship dynamic between David and his father is complex, there are multiple instances were David is verbally abused by his father and a single instance where David is physically abused. In the instance where David was physically abused, Edwin shook him in frustration to get him to stop waving his toothbrush around. Edwin himself admits that this was a terrible decision and attempts to comfort David for multiple minutes afterwards, however David retreated to be comforted by Mimic instead.
