“Remember, I have the Magic Finger of Luck.” |
Darrin, aka Uncle Dare, is a major character in Fetch, the first story of the Fazbear Frights 2: Fetch. He's Greg's flamboyant and rich uncle who he enjoys spending time with much more than his parents.
Physical Appearance[]
Dare is six-foot-five with broad shoulders.[2] He also has a huge head, a graying goatee, and long hair that's dyed purple and worn in a braid. Dare tends to wear bright-colored suits and ties paired with patterned shirts, and on his right index finger is an onyx and gold ring.
Personality[]
Dare is flamboyant and fun, even when it comes to food. He loves and cares for his family, even if his brother-in-law doesn't respect or care for him back. Dare is especially close to Greg and is very accepting of him, not caring for his likes and dislikes.
History[]
Backstory[]
Darrin is a wealthy, successful inventor of car parts. This mixed with his incredible luck with investments and money in general allows him to live on a ten-acre estate with a workshop. This put him at odds with his brother-in-law, Steven, who he constantly fought with. Dare still deeply cared for his only sibling, Hillary, and this love extended onto Greg when he was born. Dare would be incredibly supportive of Greg's interests, make him gifts, and teach him things, such as yoga.
When Greg was four years old, he began to cry over a stuffed octopus in a claw machine that he failed to win. Dare tapped the glass with his right index finger, declaring that he'll get the octopus with the "Magic Finger of Luck." When Dare won it first try, it began an ongoing joke between the two.
Fetch[]
While Greg is at the pizzeria, his mother is at a book club, and his father is out playing poker, Darrin arrives at the house to set up a shiny new generator he got in Olympia for the upcoming winter storms. When he discovers Greg isn't home and he doesn't respond to his texts and calls, he stays to wait for him. He's about the call the police when Greg returns home. Dare is happy to learn that Greg's father finally caved and let Greg get a job as a babysitter, and is even more excited to learn that Greg will be babysitting Jake McNally, as he's friends with Mrs. McNally. Dare also tells Greg he wants to get a dog after one of his friends is going to have puppies. Before he leaves, he restores power to the whole house with a power transfer system he got with the generator.
A couple of weeks before Christmas, while Greg is babysitting Jake, Dare offers to come over with a "rainy day picnic." To make it more authentic, he brings along rubber toy insects, but Jake isn't a fan of a rubber spider toy and insists that it be removed. Dare and Jake watch from a window as Greg buries the spider, and Dare praises Greg for going along with it. Sometime before Christmas, Dare goes on a ski trip with friends.
One night, Greg ponders way to get more money for his experiments. He texts Dare telling him he needs the Magic Finger of Luck and asks if he can teach him how to make more money. He waits for a response but eventually goes to bed. Fetch tells him good night and Greg feels bothered by something, but he doesn't know what. Sometime around 4:30 a.m., he wakes up and instantly realizes that his last text would be taken literally by Fetch. He tries to call Dare but gets no response, so he quickly puts on a hoodie and sweats and runs downstairs. He opens the door only to fall to his knees at the sight of Dare's thick finger on the mat.
Greg's mom comes downstairs crying and she explains that Darrin was attacked by some sort of wild animal, and it tore off his finger. He was also scratched up and mauled, and he's been airlifted to the hospital. She's sure he'll be fine, but Greg knows the truth behind the attack and is filled with rage and sorrow. After he destroys Fetch with a baseball bat, his mother explains that Dare will be in surgery for a while to repair his damaged nerves and sew up his lacerations, and it'll be a while before they can visit him.
