Five Nights at Freddy's Wiki

When the first Five Nights at Freddy's novel released in 2015, Scott Cawthon responded to questions about its connection to the original game series with "The games and books should be considered separate continuities, even if they do share familiar elements. So yes, the book is canon, just as the games are. That doesn't mean that they are intended to fit together like two puzzle pieces." With this, a framework was established: different takes on the franchise's story exist in their own continuities, and projects related to them can fit into one of those continuities.

Simply put, a continuity is defined as one particular iteration of the Five Nights at Freddy's universe. A project being part of a certain continuity doesn't necessarily mean that it is canon or not canon, only that it's intended to fit together with any games, books, or other story projects in that same continuity.

Five Nights at Freddy's

Core Series

Mainline Games

The core of the Five Nights at Freddy's game series and its overarching narrative are the following games:

All of these games share continuity with each-other, with each new title building on the lore its predecessors established. Despite later entries not being numbered like the first four, they are considered direct continuations of their story, with Pizzeria Simulator having been officially called "Five Nights at Freddy's 6" in rereleases and Security Breach being internally referred to as "FNaF 9."

Fans have divided the series into two chronological eras. Scott Cawthon's original 7 games are considered the Scott Games era, while the more recent games developed by Steel Wool Studios are considered the Steel Wool era.

Survival Logbook

The Five Nights at Freddy's: Survival Logbook is an activity book released in 2017, shortly after the release of Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator. It's presented as an in-universe item given to security guards at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, formerly owned by Mike. This set-up is seemingly contradicted by certain details in the book, which may or may not conflict with the implied timeline of the games. Despite this, the Survival Logbook is considered canon to the game series' main continuity and contains multiple significant lore drops.

Special Delivery

Five Nights at Freddy's AR: Special Delivery is an AR game released for mobile by Illumix in 2019. It received frequent updates up until the end of 2021, before shutting down in 2024. It shares continuity with the rest of the series, with its story tying directly into Security Breach and being briefly referenced in the same game.

Ticket to Fun

Five Nights at Freddy's: Ticket to Fun is a games and activities novelty book released in 2025. Due to big lore implications in the book, it is considered canon to the game series' main continuity.

Web Series

The Five Nights at Freddy's series has several web series' that are in-universe TV-like episodic content made to promote upcoming video games.

Spin-Off Games

Several official Five Nights at Freddy's games have been released outside of the aforementioned main series. These spin-off projects are often a subject of debate among fans, as there are few official statements on their exact relevance to the story. Despite this, they often connect to the core games in a meaningful way.

FNaF World

FNaF World is an RPG released by Scott Cawthon in 2016, with a free expansion coming out later that year. It takes place in a digital world inhabited by child-friendly "Adventure" variants of characters from the first four mainline Five Nights at Freddy's games. Although its story repeatedly breaks the fourth wall and doesn't appear to fit into the existing lore, Scott Cawthon did try to tie it to a canon game[1], and several of its characters went on to appear in the main series, such as Dee Dee and Old Man Consequences in Ultimate Custom Night. According to Five Nights at Freddy's: The Ultimate Guide, it has been "ruled out of canon."

Freddy in Space Series

The Freddy in Space series is a side-scrolling shooter spin-off game series created by Scott Cawthon. The first game was developed to raise charity for St. Jude's Children Hospital and the second game was developed to tease the then upcoming Five Nights at Freddy's film.

Fury's Rage

Security Breach: Fury's Rage is a standalone beat-'em-up spin-off game by Scott Cawthon. Scott developed and released this game as an apology for the second delay of Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach.

Youtooz Presents

Youtooz Presents: Five Nights at Freddy's is a simple AR mobile game released by Youtooz in 2022 to coincide with their first wave of Security Breach collectible figures. This project doesn't have any connections to the rest of the FNaF series.

Into the Pit

Five Nights at Freddy's: Into the Pit is a 2D survival horror game released by Mega Cat Studios for the franchise's 10th anniversary. While it's officially advertised as a "new chapter in the Five Nights at Freddy's universe" that lets players "travel back to where it all began," its exact relationship to the rest of the series has been called into question by many fans, as it adapts many elements from the ambiguously canon Fazbear Frights book series and contains many questionable references to other entries.

Five Laps at Freddy's

Five Laps at Freddy's is an upcoming kart racing game developed by Clickteam. Despite it not having an apparent story, fans have taken note of how it portrays certain familiar elements, such as Midnight Motorist or Edwin Murray, as it's an official Five Nights at Freddy's game.

Original Trilogy Series

The Five Nights at Freddy's original trilogy is a trilogy of novels reimagining the story of Five Nights at Freddy's in a new continuity, centered around Charlotte Emily and her friends. All three novels were written by Scott Cawthon and Kira Breed-Wrisley. Although these books tell a different story from the games, several elements introduced in them have gone on to play a major part in the main series. Five Nights at Freddy's: The Ultimate Guide suggests that these books can be used to gain further insight into certain relationships, characters, and concepts from the games.

The series were later adapted as graphic novels, done by different illustrators:

Fazbear Frights Series

The Fazbear Frights series is an anthology series of young adult novels featuring short stories written by Scott Cawthon and various other authors. While the exact relationship between these books' continuity and the core series has been called into question, Cawthon has stated that their contents should be used to fill in gaps of his games' lore[2], with at least some of the short stories being directly connected to the games.

The series includes 12 books, with the last one being a bonus entry with 3 stories that didn't make the cut.

15 short stories were later adapted as graphic novels in the following releases:

Tales from the Pizzaplex Series

The Tales from the Pizzaplex series is the follow-up to Fazbear Frights, with 24 (25 counting the bonus book) short stories in the world of Steel Wool Studios' games, most notably Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizzaplex from Security Breach.

Several stories from the series were adapted as graphic novels in the following releases:

Interactive Novel Series

The Interactive Novel series is a series of four interactive mystery horror novels, each one written by a different author, in collaboration with Scott Cawthon.

Film Series

The Five Nights at Freddy's film series loosely adapts characters and storylines from the games, as well as from the novels. It takes place in its own continuity, with characters such as Mike Schmidt or Vanessa undergoing significant changes. According to Matthew Lillard, Scott Cawthon and director Emma Tammi wish for the films to "deliver lore" and "fill in [the blanks] where we can."[3]

Each of the films were later adapted as novels shortly after their respective releases:

Fazbear Fanverse

The Fazbear Fanverse Initiative covers a series of official spin-off games developed by well-regarded creators in the fan base. Although these projects may sometimes reference the mainline games, they are in no way canon to the rest of the series and exist in their own respective continuities.

Candy + Popgoes Universe

The Candy + Popgoes Universe, known in short as the CPU, is set in an alternate timeline of the first three Five Nights at Freddy's games, comprising the Five Nights at Candy's and POPGOES series.

Five Nights at Candy's Series

The Five Nights at Candy's series is an officially-licensed fangame series by Emil Macko. The series focuses on a rival robotics entertainment restaurant chain created by CTC Entertainment. A spin-off game, FNAC FUR, is set to release sometime in the future and it's currently unknown how the game will tie into the series' canon.

POPGOES Series

The POPGOES series is an officially-licensed fangame series by Kane Carter. The series take place after the events of the third Five Nights at Freddy's game and is primarily set in the British robotics entertainment pizza chain Popgoes Pizzeria.

The Joy of Creation Series

The Joy of Creation series is an officially-licensed fangame series by Nicodemo Sitá with a reboot set to release in the future. The game follows the Creator, a game developer who has to confront the manifestations of his own mind.

One Night at Flumpty's Series

The One Night at Flumpty's series is an officially-licensed fangame parody series by Jonochrome. The series is about an unnamed person having to survive against Flumpty Bumpty and his friends in a series of deadly hide-and-seek games.

Five Nights at Freddy's Plus

Five Nights at Freddy's Plus was an official re-imagining of the first Five Nights at Freddy's game by Felipe Moraga. The game was never meant to act as a replacement of the original Five Nights at Freddy's series' game. Though the game is now cancelled, a series of prequel short videos were released between 2020 and 2021.

So much of the game is fans have for so long filled in the blanks, and our job is to fill in where we can and what's Scott and Emma thinks appropriate.
