“He? What is that thing?!” |
Burntrap is the tertiary antagonist of Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach. He is an animatronic of enigmatic origin who resided in the underground ruins of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Place, appearing in the base game's "Burn It All Down" Ending.
Physical Appearance
Burntrap has a physical appearance that resembles both Springtrap and Scraptrap, though with significant differences. His suit is olive and dark yellow in color, with an exposed human jawbone with teeth. His endoskeleton resembles a combination of the Glamrock Animatronics and a Springlock endoskeleton, with some parts of human bone with sharp claws at the tip of each digit with five fingers instead of four, matching the mysterious hand at the end of the February 2021 trailer. His costume is remarkably smooth and appears to have an oily, flesh like texture. The suit has missing segments of its costume, such as on his limbs and pelvis area. His eyes are pitch black with purple glowing pupils. His right foot's endoskeleton is completely exposed, while his left foot still has its costume covering.
Personality
Burntrap displays little to no personality, as he doesn't outwardly express any emotion besides sinisterly laughing with sadistic joy. He also appears to be incapable of speech, as he doesn't speak during his encounter with Gregory. However, Burntrap is implied to be persistent as he continues to try and possess Glamrock Freddy during the ending's boss battle even after Gregory repeatedly burns him with the incinerators located in his chambers.
Theories and Speculation
"I was the first! I have seen everything!"
This section archives a lot of theories and speculation, which usually occurs from pre-release media, or just things that are still unknown, so please keep that in mind while reading. The page will continue to be updated with the most accurate information as more solid evidence is supplied. |
- There is speculation that Burntrap, Glitchtrap, and The Mimic may be the same character.
- When Burntrap gets out of his Charging Stations, he curls his arm in a similar way to how The Mimic is described to do in Tales from the Pizzaplex.
- He has a few physical similarities to how the Mimic is described in the Tales from the Pizzaplex epilogues.
- One of the Mimic's hands is the same as Burntrap's.
- Interestingly, this shared hand is the same as Nightmare Chica's endoskeleton hands.
- There are also theories that Burntrap contains the physical body of the Mimic but the consciousness of Glitchtrap, if they are separate.
- There's a scratch mark that was only added in RUIN which appears in the vent from Burntrap's boss fight area and in the collapsed vent near The Mimic's lair.
- The scratch mark seems to be made by Burntrap's right hand, which has five fingers. The Mimic doesn't have a right hand with five fingers, but a quick look at his model shows that he replaced his right arm with a new one.
- While Mimic doesn't have the Springlock Ribcage in RUIN, in the eighth Tales from the Pizzaplex book's epilogue, Mimic gets springlocked in a court jester costume.
- It is alternatively theorized that Burntrap and William Afton may be the same character.
- Burntrap has a constant purple color scheme in his surroundings like the iconic color of Afton.
- In the Security Breach Files, Burntrap is directly named as Afton.[1]
- However, the Security Breach Files also gets a lot of things incorrect, meaning that this could just be another mistake. Not to mention the fact that it doesn't go in any depth or detail about his character other than him being called the "main antagonist."
- Burntrap has a springlock ribcage similar to Springtrap or the Spring Bonnie models from Five Nights at Freddy's AR: Special Delivery and Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted which The Mimic does not, and maybe might have not been able to if there were major components in the torso.
- He is found in Freddy Fazbear's pizza place the same place the Afton was last seen in.
- It is implied that Glitchtrap is the digital form of Burntrap.
- Glitchtrap's hand emerges a charging pod in the base ending of Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted 2, similarly to Burntrap.
- Burntrap is able to remotely control and corrupt technology around him, such is the case of the glamrock animatronics. It is not an ability that Springtrap had, but one that aligns more with the behavior of Glitchtrap.
- While all of these theories hold some weights, it's possible the real answer is a combination of all of them. With Burntrap being the Mimic and Glitchtrap (something already heavily implied) as well as also being Afton. It's possible the Mimic wore what was left of Scraptrap and became infected and possessed by William Afton.
Debunked Theories
- It was theorized that Vanny destroyed Glamrock Bonnie to use his parts to repair Burntrap in an attempt to revive William Afton due to them being both rabbit animatronics.
- Evidence: Glitchtrap was believed to be a digital copy of Afton. After possessing Vanessa, it was proposed he tried to revive himself by having Monty destroy Glamrock Bonnie. This is backed up by maintenance logs that speak of Bonnie's disappearance, the fact that Burntrap has parts of Glamrock Endoskeletons attached to him, and that both Spring Bonnie and Bonnie are rabbit animatronics.
- Debunking Evidence: In RUIN, Glamrock Bonnie can be found behind Bonnie Bowl. His endoskeleton and a large majority of his outer casing is still present, meaning his parts were not taken for Burntrap.
Trivia
- Burntrap was the only antagonist in Security Breach's main game to be unable to attack and jumpscare the player directly, even if the player clipped through the door and encountered him.
- There is a glitch where if the player flashes Burntrap with the Faz Camera while he is walking, the player can be jumpscared by him. During the jumpscare, the camera focuses on his foot.
- Despite a few lines of dialogue in the Security Breach trailers seemingly coming from some form of Glitchtrap, Burntrap never speaks throughout his entire encounter.
- Upon close inspection, it can be seen that the unused model for Spring Bonnie that was originally intended for Help Wanted was partially reused and heavily edited for parts of Burntrap.
- One of the character artists for Security Breach who worked on Burntrap, Johnathan Gonzalez, stated that his base model came from characters in Help Wanted.
- The reason for this is unknown.
- Burntrap's name, while never mentioned in-game, was confirmed via his files, as well as Steel Wool Studios' blog post for the February patch.
- Despite this, the Character Encyclopedia states that "Burntrap" is not the character's canon name. No alternative name is given in the book.
- This is likely due to Burntrap being a temporary name that was used in the files and later became the "canon" name after it was found, according to Scott Cawthon.
- Despite this, the Character Encyclopedia states that "Burntrap" is not the character's canon name. No alternative name is given in the book.
- While it is unknown who voices Burntrap's various laughs within the game, it is possible that it might've been Matthew Curtis, as he was originally meant to voice the character.
- Scott Cawthon's original vision for the character was for him to appear hidden throughout the game, not moving as if he were a movie prop. A boss battle against Burntrap was not intended and resulted from miscommunication with Steel Wool Studios.
- When asked his opinion on Glitchtrap, Scott answered that he loves the character but isn't a huge fan of the name. He added that Glitchtrap's and Burntrap's names were temporary names. Those names would get embedded into the source code; someone would find those names in the code, and then it turns canon.[2]
