Bub is a dog animatronic in Murray's Costume Manor. She first appears in Five Nights at Freddy's: Secret of the Mimic as an empty springlock suit that Arnold can climb in.

Physical Appearance

Bub is a dark brown dog Springlock suit. Both the inside of her muzzle and stomach is colored tan, while the inside of her ears are a much darker brown than her suit. Similar to Sparky, she wears a red necklace and a golden dog bone that reads "BUB". She has freckles on her muzzle and a diamond-shaped nose. Her ears resemble those of a Labrador Retriever.

Similar to the other Springlock Suits, she has a springlock mechanism that allows Arnold to climb inside of her. She has a rust-like material, causing some of her paint to fade and most of her body to appear old.

Functionality

Bub is a springlock animatronic suit, being composed of several individual spring-powered locking mechanisms. If someone is operating her suit, the person must be careful not to touch or lubricate any of the springlocks and keep them tightly wound.

Speculation

• Due to Bub appearing in what seems to be a recreation of the FNaF 1 location, along with Montgomery Gator, it's possible they were originally a part of the Classic animatronics at one point.
  • Both Bub and Monty could've been removed from the Classic band due to the multiple incidents involving springlock suits.
• Secret of the Mimic started pre-production phase in early-2022, there's a good chance that Scott thought of Bub in 2022, then got Jim Henson's Creature Shop to create a version of her for the film. If this is the case, the film dog could officially be named "Bub" or a version of it, like Bubba, as the film character has never officially been given a proper name (though was seemingly called "Sparky" on set).
  • On July 1, 2025, Angel Manila, a concept artist at Steel Wool, would upload a bunch of their work on Secret of the Mimic to their website. One image showed a seemingly early version of Bub, which had a much stronger resemblance to Sparky in the film.
    • This could mean that the dog in the film is named Bub. Alternatively, the changes made to the design could reflect a deliberate attempt to set Bub apart from the film character.

Trivia

• Bub's name and design could possibly be a reference to the FNaF World boss character Bubba.
• Bub could be a reference to the popular hoax character, Sparky the Dog.
  • She has a strong semblance to Sparky from the 2023 film.
• Bub was initially believed to be a male character, largely due to her aforementioned similarities to Sparky the Dog. However, one of the voice lines played by pressing the Bub button in the Good Ending's interactive storybook explicitly refers to Bub as a 'she'.
