So, when FFPS came out, everyone was pretty happy with what came out. However, there was one thing people really, really disliked.
Afton's design.
There was literally nothing recycled from the old model, and it looked radically different. This resulted in it being called the popular name "Scraptrap."
At first people complained, but then the theories started coming in. Theories which, if I have to be honest, were mostly a waste of time.
As a means of explaining what I mean, I'm going to refer to Molten Freddy. Sure, that mask and those fingers came from somewhere, but the rest really doesn't need an explanation. All those thinner wires are used to make Molten Freddy look messier, which makes sense considering he literally got vomited out into a sewer. It's not meant to resemble a humanoid figure anymore, it's just a mess.
Then there's the eyes. Hardly anyone pays any heed to them, and there's no real reason to, but if you do look at them, you'll notice they have the Rockstar eye texture.
Won't name names, but this led to a small series of theories, all discussing the origins of said eyes. Theories that were completely unnecessary.
The truth is, by recycling the Rockstar eye texture, Scott was just saving time. If you look at the eyes, we've got a blue eye, a yellow eye, a pink eye and a green eye. Just like Ennard. There's no lore significance here, it's just there to show this is the same character seen in SL.
Same goes for Scraptrap.
Believe it or not, Springtrap in FNaF 3 wasn't perfect. He was certainly detailed, but proportionally and anatomically he made zero sense. He had no bones, the head was too small and his height would've been incredibly awkward for a human occupant. Adding on to this, there's no way those feet would work. The Nightmares, who were had a design based off of Springtrap, further emphasised this. For it to work, the suit would have to be huge, which honestly would look ridiculous.
Scraptrap provided the solution to this dilemma. By making the suit around the same size and shape of the human occupant, but without all those suit parts, a logical design could be reached. With Scraptrap's feet, you can actually wear them without discomfort, and the proportions fit around the wearers height and width without things being out of proportion. Granted, things aren't perfect, but you can definitely see what was being aimed for here. As well as this, the redesign acknowledged other minor details, such as Afton's glossy eyes and actual voice, yet kept true to the original model, e.g. the missing right ear and singular button.
And you know what? I like it. It's a design that not only makes more sense, but recognises what Afton is. It's not meant to look pretty, it's supposed to look evil, like Mr Hyde.
Long story short, we probably should of listened to Mr Hippo regarding this one.
