Abby Schmidt is the deuteragonist of the Five Nights at Freddy's film. She is the younger sister of Mike Schmidt and Garrett Schmidt.
She is portrayed by Piper Rubio in the film.
Description[]
Mike's younger sister, Abby, is inquisitive and brave, with a creative mind and keen intuition. A bit of a loner who keeps her thoughts and feelings close to her chest, she expresses herself primarily through drawings. Growing up without her parents, while being raised by her unreliable brother, Abby has learned to fend for herself. That said, she is still very much a child, emotionally vulnerable, full of imagination, and not without the normal outbursts of a 10-year old.[1]
Appearance[]
Abby is a young girl with pale skin and a round face. Her brown hair is styled into a short and curly bob, reaching a couple inches above her shoulders. Both her eyes and hair are a similar shade of brown. During the film, she wears a variety of colorful clothing.
History[]
Abby is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt, the sister of Mike Schmidt, and the niece of Jane Schmidt. Taking place in April 2000, Abby is mentioned as being 10 years old; it is likely that she was born in 1989 or 1990. She wasn't born for the kidnapping of Garrett, which happened in 1987, roughly 2–3 years before she was born. Sometime after her birth, her mother committed suicide due to wanting another boy, and it seems like her father abandoned them after the stress got to him, making his status unknown and leaving Mike as her legal guardian.
At some point, Abby met the spirits of the Missing Children; however, most adults disregarded this as her talking to imaginary friends, which combined with her mostly keeping to herself resulted in her becoming an outcast from other children her age. This, combined with Mike’s constant dismissal from jobs, made her aunt Jane file for a change of custody, though she really only wanted the payments caring for Abby would bring. She’d often be babysat by Maxine who was hired by Jane to find proof of Mike endangering Abby, though she didn’t enjoy the time with her.
After Max is killed by Freddy, Mike has no choice but to bring Abby with him. After making a little fort to sleep in in the office, Abby is beckoned by a strange voice, leading her to the stage. Her screams awakened Mike, though she was unharmed, and the animatronics were merely tickling her. Abby later introduces Mike to the animatronics, and the following night, she, Mike, Vanessa, and the animatronics build a pillow fort together. Unfortunately, Abby is harmed by Bonnie’s guitar, making Vanessa angry at Mike and forcing him to call Jane to watch her for the night.
Sometime after Mike leaves the house to get to work, Golden Freddy arrives at the house, seemingly killing or knocking out Jane, making Abby run out of her room to see what the noises were. The blonde-haired ghost kid tells her that Jane is sleeping. He then takes Abby back to the restaurant, where the animatronics start to dance with her. While the party is happening, Chica takes Abby to the parts & service room and attempts to trap her inside a springlock suit, but is saved by Mike.
While running down a corridor, Mr. Cupcake jumps after Mike and bites his leg, making Mike tell Abby to run while he takes care of the Cupcake. While running, the hooked ghost kid sees her running to the arcade. She hides behind an arcade cabinet out of Foxy's sight, hearing him move closer to her spot. While trying to make as little noise as possible, she throws a ball pit ball, forcing Foxy to look away from where she is. While Foxy is distracted, Abby runs from the spot and jumps into the ball pit. When Foxy makes it to the ball pit and looks inside, he assumably sees Abby through the visible spaces in the balls. Before Foxy could do anything, Vanessa saves Abby by shocking Foxy. A while later, after Mike was knocked out temporarily by Afton, and when Vanessa and Afton were talking to each other, Abby ran up to Mike and shook him awake. Mike tells Abby to draw Afton hurting the ghost children to show the animatronics the real story that they've forgotten. Afton sees her replacing the drawing and starts making his way to her. Mike restarts the power, making the light shine on the picture and making the animatronics go after Afton. While that is happening, Mike and Abby pick up Vanessa from the floor after she got stabbed and get out of the pizzeria.
A few weeks later, Abby is back in the Child Development Center. She has shown big improvements in how she interacts with other kids and is no longer on her own when there. Later, at home, Abby asks Mike if they can see the animatronics again, to which Mike says, "You never know what could happen."

"I was the first! I have seen everything!"
This section archives a lot of theories and speculation, which usually occurs from pre-release media, or just things that are still unknown, so please keep that in mind while reading. The page will continue to be updated with the most accurate information as more solid evidence is supplied. |
- The name Abby is an anagram of Baby, though it's currently unknown whether or not she's actually connected to Circus Baby or Elizabeth Afton, as there are many differences between the character's appearances. Interestingly, the suit she was nearly shoved into heavily resembles Ella, from the Novel Trilogy.
- It is heavily implied she has some form of supernatural connection to the animatronics. In the second trailer of the film, one of her drawings is taped to the fridge, depicting her, Mike, and Vanessa alongside the animatronics. It is worth noting that her drawing of Mike depicts him in the same outfit he wears when he is confronted by the ghosts of the deceased children in the forest, which is peculiar as Abby is clearly shown to not be present in those scenes.
