Chapter One/Chapter Two/Chapter Three
The figure was nothing but shadows. Rabbit ears protruding from it’s head. Nothing but darkness.
“Thank god, it’s almost over,” William smiled.
The shadow rabbit took William’s hand.
Suddenly, they were in Town Square, dreary and damp.
“It’s a shame,” a woman said passing by. “Not like anyone would mourn him.”
“Mourn him?” a man next to her laughed. “I think people are happy he’s finally dead!”
“Someone’s dead?” William asked.
The spirit took him to a pawn shop. A group of people were sharing things.
“I got this from his kitchen,” a man said. He placed several forks, spoons and knives on the table.
“I got some of his clothes,” a different man said. He placed several blazers and dress shirts on the table.
“Amateurs,” a woman smiled. “I got his bedsheets.”
The woman placed several purple sheets and blankets on the table.
“Isn’t his body on the bed!” one guy asked. The woman only smiled like a psychopath.
William looked at the ghost. “I get it. This unmourned guy could be me, can we go now?”
The ghost pointed onward, teleporting the pair into a dimly lit room with a body on it.
“Nope!” William said, showing some small pit of sanity.
He looked over at the spirit. “Ghost, show me who feels something about this man’s death!”
Suddenly they were in an old rundown house. A father walked in and hugged his wife. “The man who killed our son is dead,” he said.”
“Murder? Disease? Benji, you didn’t kill him, did you?”
“Marta, I’m not stupid.”
William looked at the host in slight anger. He felt bad for this man, when the only feelings brought on by his death was joy.
“Ghost, I beg of you. Take me to someone mourning a death tonight.”
In a flash, they were at the McNally household. William quickly counted; Michael, Roxanne, Margie, Evan…
“Where’s Jake?”
Evan and Roxanne hugged in tears. “I can’t keep going like this,” he said.
“Come on, Ev,” Margie hit his back. “Stay strong. It’s what Jake would have wanted.”
William’s hands turned to fists. “Tell me! Tell me who this dead guy is!”
The ghost waved his hand to the door. William walked out into a cemetery. He followed the shadowy rabbit straight to an overgrown grave.

William was speechless. Him, no one cared about him. No one bothered to mourn him, only to steal his belongings.
“Spirit, tell me. Is this what will always happen, or can it be changed?”
The ghost was silent.
“Tell me that I can change this! I’ll be better. I promise!”
William woke up. He was in bed. It was morning.
He looked outside the window. A kid passed by, tugging a sleigh.
“Hey you!” the older man shouted. “What day is it?”
“It’s Christmas!” the child said.
William grabbed his coat and pulled out a wad of cash. Bought five hundred dollars.
He threw it towards the kid. “Go to the butcher shop and get the prized turkey on display, and I’ll pay you.”
The kid excitedly grabbed the money and ran to the shop.
“Vanessa, get my coat!”
William stopped by the charity.
“Hello, are donations still open?” he asked Devon when he opened the door.
“Yeah. Why?” Devon was skeptical.
“Just put me down for about two thousand.”
Devon's eyes lit up and he ran inside. “Will do, sir!”
Next stop was the McNally house.
“Is Evan home?” He asked.
Michael called out for his brother. Evan and Jake walked up to the door.
“Who’s this little guy, Ev?” William asked.
“This is my son, Jake.” Evan held Jake close.
“I heard about Jake’s little…condition.”
“And?”
“So I’ve decided to raise your salary and do everything I can to provide for your family.”
“Excuse me!”
“Sir! I got the turkey!”
Final stop, Michael’s party.
William knocked on the door and Michael answered.
“Hey dad. Merry Christmas,” Michael said shyly.
“Merry Christmas son. Tell me, is the party invite still available?”
Michael nodded in excitement and let his father in.
William had never been happier.
(Sorry this one was shorter than my usual series are. I wanted to get this out before Christmas so I could take the 24th and 25th off. Also, credit to @AubergineMan1987 for most of the ideas.)
