MAJOR TWB SPOILERS, READ AT YOUR OWN RISK
So on Night 2, page 52 of TWB, it’s revealed Ralph likes to say a certain phrase at the beginning of his shift:
“It’s time to make the donuts”.
It’s established Ralph says this a lot.
Now. What’s so special about this unassuming phrase?
Well, as Ralph points out, it’s from an old commercial. This is a real commercial:
A commercial from 1983.
OK. So now that we’ve established that, let’s go to the next point here:
We first learn about Ralph's fondness for the phrase on Night 2. But despite the frequency with which Ralph says the phrase, it is on Night 3 when something unusual happens. Now this always happens no matter what you choose: it’s in the very opening pages of Night 3.
Ralph says “It’s time to make the donuts.”
He gets a response:
He hears a child laugh behind him. Now, this laugh comes from behind Ralph, from the lockers. The story specifically TELLS us that Ralph only sees "lockers and shadow" when he turns to look for the source of the laugh.
We know the lockers are behind Ralph because of page 37.
In the movie version of this office, this was the exact spot where Mike found Balloon Boy.
He found him in a locker in the back of the office.
Incidentally, this is referenced in Into The Pit:
What’s also special about this is that nothing bad happens to Ralph. Whoever laughed in response to Ralph is harmless.
Such as Balloon Boy (especially as he’s incorporeal at this point).
This is a very rare moment in this book where a child laughs and nothing bad happens to anyone, because usually in The Week Before a laughing child usually means someone is gonna die to one of the animatronics. The laugh that drives Ralph crazy on Night 1, a particularly memorable Night 6 ending, etc.
Except this time. So, who was this ghost, this ghost who responded to Ralph?
Here's what we know:
They were harmless.
They were close enough to Ralph to hear him mutter “time to make the donuts” to himself but did not try to kill him.
So…that pretty much eliminates every animatronic. There’s also no sign of It’s Me in this scene or garbled noises that seem to implicate Golden Freddy.
But where does BBVictim come into play?
Well, fast forward to the "Big Bite" ending. Yes, the animatronic that crunches Ralph is interesting...but I'm more interested in where the crying came from.
So, after the recording of the Big Bite concludes, Ralph still hears a child crying. We're not told where the crying came from after hanging up, but it seems to be coming from…behind him.
Which is exactly where the donut laugh came from.
While yes, it is thematically appropriate that Ralph dies by getting bitten after hearing CC got bitten, I believe whoever killed Ralph is a distraction - probably someone who is protective of CC/BB, but for discerning the crying child’s identity we need to remember the first clue.
The Donut Clue.
Whoever the crying child is, they were not aggressive on Night 3. They did not try to bite his head. They responded to “It’s time to make the donuts” and did not bother him any further.
So who responded to Ralph on Night 3?
So, that brings me to my first conclusion: the crying child possesses an animatronic that is not one of the ones who tries to kill us in this game.
An animatronic who is associated with the lockers in the back of the fnaf1 office.
Like Balloon Boy.
