The restaurant was dark. Henry frowned. Tom should’ve turned the lights on by now. He chuckled and waved his worries away. The nightwatchman had more than likely fallen asleep. And yet, when Henry unlocked the door, the place felt strangely….empty. Like a snail shell without its snail. He hesitantly turned the lights on. “Tom?” He called. “Tom!” No reply. Henry checked the dining room, the office, the bathrooms, and every back room before he noticed that the Parts and Service door was ajar. Frowning, he opened it. There were various parts for the animatronics, but no Tom.
Henry blinked. Where is he? Unless….did he leave? Probably. He’s not here. I bet he went home, fell asleep, and forgot to check the time and make it back here before me. The place just opened yesterday, after all. The animatronics were all in place, and when he passed Foxy, he felt a sudden, unexpected surge of grief and regret flow through him. Everything had been fine, everybody was happy, but then it happened, and now it was just a memory, albeit a very vivid one. He remembered that day very clearly.
It was just a normal day….or that was what he thought. Fredbear and Spring Bonnie were onstage, and everybody else was chatting and, for the most part, having fun. A group of teenagers talked quietly in the corner. Only snatches of their conversation could be heard.
“Maybe they’ll learn-”
“But, guys, what if something-”
“Oh, shut up-”
“Don’t you dare-”
“Wuss-”
“Cut it out!”
“Stop yelling.”
“Anyways, as I was saying-”
“Okay, so go up there and-”
“Yes, do whatever, just scare-”
“Bet everybody will start to freak out-”
“Oh, this’ll be good.”
One of the teenagers broke away from the group and staggered up to the stage…..another teenager, was holding a remote control of some sort…before anybody could stop him, the boy had jumped up onto the stage and reached for the back of Fredbear’s head. He fumbled around for something, and he must’ve found it, because he let out a triumphant “A-ha!”. Suddenly. Fredbear stopped moving. The teenager tried to leap off the stage, but was jerked back. He twisted around and yanked; his shirt had gotten hooked on something.
He whipped around wildly and locked his eyes on the boy with the remote. He hadn’t noticed what was happening. “Michael, wait!” It was too late. Michael pressed a few buttons and suddenly Fredbear lunged forward, jaw springing open. He let out a roar and chomped down…..right on the teenager’s head.
Everything was quiet…..and then the room was full of noise, horrified screaming and shocked shouts. Michael stood there, looking blankly at the stage. Blood dripped from the animatronic’s mouth. Blood was everywhere, all over the floor, on the animatronics…..
With a sickening wet thud, the body dropped from Fredbear’s mouth and hit the floor. His skull had been crushed; bone fragments peeked out of the wound, which was gushing out blood. Too much blood. There were several deep cuts along his neck, and Henry could see the teeth marks on his skull, right where the animatronic had bitten the boy. He could hear an ambulance, but he knew that it was too late….Everybody evacuated the building, and nobody went there the next day….well, one person did. Henry walked up to the building and sighed, then let out a cry of rage.
He froze. Footsteps! Henry whipped around and saw a figure walking to the back of the restaurant. The person was wearing a dark hood, and was walking rather oddly….they kept stopping and turning around, as though making sure they weren't being followed….Henry stood up and started to follow them when he heard the boom. Smoke poured from the back of the restaurant. He could see flames…..fire? Fire! He couldn’t let his creations burn…..not even Fredbear.
Henry rushed into the building and bolted for the main stage. He didn’t look up at Fredbear’s mouth as he dragged the yellow bear out of the restaurant.
He ran back in and saw, to his shock and horror, that now half of the stage was consumed by the flames. Spring Bonnie was on that half. Henry shook his head and looked around frantically, then headed into the room where the other four animatronics were. Freddy, Chica, Bonnie, and Foxy. He threw his arms around the one closest to the door-Foxy-and hefted it up awkwardly. He staggered out the door and collapsed on the grass, coughing.
The whole restaurant was up in flames. He couldn’t go back in, not unless he wanted to die. Henry buried his face in his hands, then looked up again. The figure was fleeing now, and as he watched, they turned their head to face him. Then the person was gone, leaving Henry sitting down with the two animatronics. He thought for a while, the gears turning in his head. From what he saw, the person’s head was weird…..they looked like they had ears, and their face was red. But….why? It was obviously a mask. But why would they burn Fredbear’s down? WHY?
The sound of something crackling jolted Henry out of his memory and got him moving again.
