Larson slowly regained consciousness. He wasn’t dead, but he felt worse. He felt weak, like something was crawling around in his head. Someone…
He was tied to a chair. His hands were duck taped behind him, his torso tied to the back of the chair. His legs were free, but that wouldn’t do him much good.
Vanessa and Lewis talked across the room from him.
“I’m just saying,” Vanessa told her fellow cultist. “I don’t like surgeries.”
“You are a serial killer,” Lewis pointed out. “How do you not like blood?”
“It’s not the blood. It’s the exposed organs. Egh.”
“Vanessa!” something shouted from a different room. “Bring in the cooler!”
“Yes sir!” the girl shouted back. Hse made her way to the cooler, right next to Larson. “Lewie, he’s awake.”
“Don’t call me that!” Lewis shouted.
Larson used a free leg to open the cooler. He almost screamed. The cooler was filled with organs, some still throbbing with life. A heart, brains, lungs, stomach, intestines, livers. Dear god, it was disgusting.
Vanny grabbed one of it’s handles and pulled it along the floor, muttering “ew” every so often.
Lewis stood in the room keeping guard over the cop.
Larson noticed an empty chair next to him. There was rope next to it, as if they’d just untied someone. There was duct tape on the front legs, as if there was more that had been cut off.
“Who else was here?” he asked.
Lewis smiled. “That little missing person of yours.”
“Michael!” Larson shouted, trying to find where he was now.
“He’s busy. He had surgery to do.”
“What?” Larson tried putting the pieces together. Surgery, cooler full of organs. “What’s wrong with Mike?” he asked. “Some sort of organ problem.”
Lewis looked like that was a stupid question. “The problem is he doesn’t have any.”
Larson sat with his eyes wide in the chair. “He what now?”
Kelsey kicked the door to the garage open. Jake and Andrew sat in front of the Stitchwraith. Alec stared at Julius’s exoskeleton dangling from the ceiling.
This is a weird house, Kelsey thought to himself.
“Kells, what’s going on?” Alec asked.
“Afton,” he said. “Afton has Michael.”
Julius (and Reed) had only been here for a month. They’d barely known Michael, and never met his dad.
“What’s going on?”
“We’re going bunny hunting!” Jake said happily.
