Mia click-clacked her way down the halls of the hospital. She smiled at room 1275, where Michael used to stay.
She remembered that he left only a few days before the man blew up. She was still confused about that, but at least he was gone.
Nurse Colton stepped towards her, smiling ear to ear.
“Asher is downstairs,” the nurse said. “Says there is a problem he really needs fixed.”
Mia started towards the elevator. Her boyfriend was apparently in the hospital, despite his doctor working at Glendale.
She made her way down the elevator and to the front desk. Her boyfriend leaned on the desk. He looked at her, and smiled.
“How are you doing Mia?” he asked.
“What’s going on? Why are you here? Are you ok?”
Asher reached into his pocket and pulled out a small red box. Mia couldn’t believe it.
“Mia Fremont, would you marry me?”
Mia smiled at Michael during his checkup.
“How are you doing Mia?” he asked.
“My boyfriend proposed,” she smiled.
Michael frowned slightly. “Good for you.”
“What’s wrong?”
“I could never get a girlfriend. There were girls I liked, and they liked me back, but I knew it would be better for them if I didn’t date them.”
“Don’t say that.”
Michael tried to smile. “It’s best I don’t.”
Father Blythe headed into the church. It was mid-day, yet he was exhausted.
A man sat in the front, looking at a painting on the wall. The priest walked up to him.
“Excuse me sir?” he asked. “Is there something I can do for you?”
The man had light skin, brown hair and blue eyes. He wore a white shirt, black pants and white sneakers.
The man stared at the priest. “Sorry, I’ll be going now.”
Arthur looked at the painting he was looking at. “Lucifer falling from heaven?”
The man smiled. “Ironic, ain’t it.”
“How is it ironic?”
The man looked at his hand. “I’m a bit of a fallen angel. Once upon a time, I was an innocent kid. People cared about me. I had something to live for. Then one act of rebellion changed my life. I never would have thought I would be here now, the monster I am. There are very few people still alive that care about me.” The man snickered. “Also my name is Michael.”
“I’m sure there will be time to be redeemed for your sins. You are a young man. Whatever you did, there is time to forgive yourself.”
The man looked away from the priest. “There is no forgiving a murderer.”
“Murder?”
“It was an accident, and I will never do it again. I’ve been to jail for it, and my life has punished me enough. So, no need to call the cops.”
Father Blythe looked nervously. “Ok…”
The man made his way out of church, leaving the looming smell of cologne.
