David Fitzsimmons headed into his garage, calling out for his granddaughter.
“I’m an old man Mills, I can’t do this for long!”
Hayden and Cameron followed. “Millie?” they called.
David placed a hand over the torso of Funtime Freddy. “How are you doing Fred?”
The animatronic obviously didn’t respond.
“Maybe Millie’s in there,” Hayden offered.
David scoffed, but might as well entertain his grandson.
He sunk his wrinkled fingers into the seam and pulled on the panel like a door.
Out tumbled a severed head. The skin was paper white. The eyes had rolled into the back of it’s head. The head had black hair chopped right where the head had been. The face was covered in black makeup; mascara, eyeliner and lipstick. She had punk earrings hanging from her ears.
Naturally, the young boys screamed. It was when they realized it was Millie that they ran out screaming even more.
“Dad, what happened?” Rob poked his head into the garage. He looked down at the head. “I see you’ve found Millie.”
Sheri slapped him across the face.
David didn’t know how to tell his son. Jeff would be coming home soon. How could he tell him that his daughter died in his care?
Well, he and Audrey were coming home for her funeral. So he probably already knew. But David felt the need to tell his son what happened as best as he could.
Rob, Sheri, Hayden and Cameron sat at the kitchen table. Rob wore a black suit. Sheri wore a black dress and stockings. Hayden wore a black vest, dress pants and a white dress shirt. Cameron wore a black long sleeve shirt and dark jeans.
David heard a knock on the door. It was Jeff and Audrey. Rob stood up and opened the door. Jeff ran in.
“Where’s Millie?” he asked immediately.
“She’s already at the funeral home,” Rob told him. “They spent your entire trip trying to reattach her head.”
Sheri gave him a death stare. David was so happy he had her as a daughter-in-law. Rob was a bit over excited and made too many bad jokes. It was good that he had Sheri to control him.
Audrey fell into Jeff’s arms. She couldn’t stop crying. David understood her pain. He lost his wife a few years ago. But he knew Audrey and Jeff had it worse. They lost their daughter, while they were in a different hemisphere!
Jeff drove his father and wife down to the funeral home, Rob and his family in their car.
Her parents were inconsolable. Seeing his daughter lifeless in a coffin, Jeff couldn’t even stay in the room for longer than needed. Audrey cried at her daughter's body.
David noticed not many other people were there. A couple classmates. Hannah, Millie’s old best friend. Dylan, Millie’s crush. It was nice that they came all the way here for his granddaughter.
David watched as the coffin was shut and led to the graveyard behind the funeral home. Her tombstone was gothic, a simple cross with a circle around the axis. David thought that Millie would like that.
Millie awoke yet again inside Funtime Freddy. This time was different. She left like she was Funtime Freddy.
Millie took a step, Freddy took a step. Millie lifted her arm, Freddy lifted his arm.
She was Freddy!
Millie was in an unfamiliar building. Two men were working on her, on Freddy. It kind of hurt.
“Did you hear a girl died in here?” one man asked.
“Yeah. What was her name? Millie?” the second man asked.
The first man nodded. “Don’t worry Fred. We’ll get you some new paint, clean you up, take out these dangerous things. We’ll help you.”
Millie didn’t know how to feel.
